Enhancing agents in echocardiography are used frequently to improve endocardial border visualization and assessment of structural heart disease. We present a unique case of anaphylactic shock with acute coronary syndrome following administration of sulfur hexafluoride echo enhancing agent. This case emphasizes the importance of recognizing anaphylaxis to enhancing agents, as well as recognizing the potential relationship between anaphylaxis and acute coronary syndrome with in-stent thrombosis.

SF6 decomposition composition analysis (DCA) is an effective method for identifying partial discharge (PD) fault types in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). Among various SF6 decomposition byproducts, the SO2 concentration exhibits a strong correlation with PD types, making it a key indicator for PD detection. However, detecting SO2 in an oxygen-free SF6 environment using semiconductor sensors presents challenges, such as low response values, slow recovery, and poor repeatability. To address these limitations, three ZnO micro/nanomaterials are synthesized via the hydrothermal method in this work.

The effects of vitreous substitution with air, a sulfur hexafluoride-air mixture, an octafluorocyclobutane-air mixture, and physiological saline were compared in owl monkeys. Each gas caused an increase in ocular vascular permeability greater than that caused by saline, as measured by vitreous inflow of serum protein labeled with iodine I 131 and discgel electrophoresis. The duration of increased vascular permeability closely paralleled the time each gas remained in the vitreous cavity.

Four dogs with an accessory spleen are described. The accessory spleens appeared as a round-to-triangular structure located in the perisplenic area. They were homogeneous and isoechoic with the adjacent spleen. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound was performed using a second generation microbubble contrast medium (sulfur hexafluoride). The type and timing of enhancement of the accessory spleen was similar to that of the parent spleen. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound is a noninvasive modality useful in distinguishing an accessory spleen from a mass of another origin.

Three patients with a history of previous pars-plana vitrectomy, 2 of them with perfluoropropane, and 1 with sulfur hexafluoride used, experienced eyelid swelling and pain after travelling to a higher altitude city. BACKGROUND: Retinal detachment (RD) with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) often requires surgery to restore normal anatomy and to stabilize or improve vision. PVR usually occurs in association with recurrent RD (that is, after initial retinal re-attachment surgery) but occasionally may be associated with primary RD.
