Accuracy and Safety of Pedicle Screw Insertion Using Novel Intraoperative Computed Tomography Navigation System for Spinal Fusion Surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Accurate pedicle screw placement is critical in spinal fusion surgery to prevent complications such as neurological and vascular injuries. While conventional intraoperative computed tomography (iCT) navigation systems enhance placement accuracy and reduce radiation exposure compared to fluoroscopic guidance, they can encounter line-of-sight issues that disrupt surgical workflows. The NextAR iCT navigation system aims to overcome these challenges by integrating an infrared camera directly onto surgical instruments, streamlining navigation and improving procedural efficiency. Classical and real-time neuronavigation in pediatric neurosurgery.

INTRODUCTION: Neuronavigation has become a cornerstone of neurosurgery. Navigation systems are categorized into two main groups: those based on preoperative imaging and those based on real-time intraoperative acquired images. OBJECTIVES: The preoperative imaging systems, either computed tomography (CT)- or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based, are straight-forward systems that are routinely used in most institutions. Image accuracy, however, decreases secondary to brain and lesion shifts that occur during surgery. Intraoperative, real-time navigation systems overcome anatomical shifts by up

Current Role of Computer Navigation in Total Knee Arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND: Computer-assisted surgical (CAS) navigation has been developed with the aim of improving the accuracy and precision of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) component positioning and therefore overall limb alignment. The historical goal of knee arthroplasty has been to restore the mechanical alignment of the lower limb by aligning the femoral and tibial components perpendicular to the mechanical axis of the femur and tibia. Despite over 4 decades of TKA component development and nearly 2 decades of interest in CAS, the fundamental question remains; does the alignment goal and/or the method

Navigation as a tool to visualize bone-covered hidden structures in transfrontal approaches.

A retrospective analysis of 10 patients was performed to evaluate navigation systems in extranasal frontal skull base surgery. When performing a craniotomy following a bicoronal skin incision, the surgeon has to calculate the extent of the frontal sinus to avoid unnecessary damage to the dura or mucoceles later. Due to surgical morbidity including compression of the frontal lobe, many skull base surgeons have refused to use such an approach. Malformation or bone-destruction complicates the identification of the borders and increases the risk of side-effects. Navigation systems can be an altern

Computer-Assisted Navigation in Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Manual total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has successfully treated end-stage knee osteoarthritis for several years. However, recent technological advancements have enabled surgeons to perform TKA with more accuracy and precision. Aligning the femoral and tibial components perpendicular to the mechanical axes of the femur and tibia is a fundamental principle for restoring knee kinematics and soft-tissue balance. Computer-assisted robotic TKA has proven its ability to fine tune lower leg alignment, component position, and soft-tissue balancing. Furthermore, robotic-assisted TKA (RATKA) offers the add

Real-time navigation in transoral robotic nasopharyngectomy utilizing on table fluoroscopy and image overlay software: a cadaveric feasibility study.

Inability to integrate surgical navigation systems into current surgical robot is one of the reasons for the lack of development of robotic endoscopic skull base surgery. We describe an experiment to adapt current technologies for real-time navigation during transoral robotic nasopharyngectomy. A cone-beam CT was performed with a robotic C-arm after the injecting contrast into common carotid artery. 3D reconstruction of the skull images with the internal carotid artery (ICA) highlighted red was projected on the console. Robotic nasopharyngectomy was then performed. Fluoroscopy was performed wi
