The Double Krackow Suture Technique Does Not Offer a Significant Benefit Compared to the Krackow Suture Technique in Subpectoral Biceps Tenodesis Using a Double-Loaded Suture Anchor.

PURPOSE: To compare the biomechanical properties of the double simple suture (DSS) technique, Krackow suture (KS) technique, and double Krackow suture (DKS) technique in subpectoral biceps tenodesis using a double-loaded suture anchor in a porcine tendon model. METHODS: A total of 30 artificial composite (polymer and glass fiber) humeri and porcine flexor profundus tendons with diameter of 4.5 mm were used. The sample size was determined based on the results of the pilot study. Metallic suture anchors with double-loaded No. 2 braided sutures were inserted at the subpectoral tenodesis site, 5

Mouse Model of Sutured Endothelial Keratoplasty Technique.

Background/Objectives: In this study, a mouse model of sutured endothelial keratoplasty was established and compared with a traditional penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) model in both syngeneic (BALB/c) and allogeneic (C57/BL6) patterns. Methods: For the endothelial keratoplasty (EK) model, chimeric donor tissues consisting of BALB/c epithelium-stroma combined with either syngeneic (BALB/c) or allogeneic (C57/BL6) stroma-endothelium were transplanted into BALB/c mice. Graft transparency, gene expression, and mRNA levels in the transplanted tissues were assessed using polymerase chain reaction (PC

Patella Fracture Fixation Technique with Suture Anchors.

INTRODUCTION: Patella fracture can occur due to direct injury to the knee or indirect eccentric contraction of the quadriceps tendon. These injuries can present in different configurations which require acceptable reduction and good fixation. Patients are at risk of not only losing their knee extensor mechanism but also having a defective patellofemoral articulation. Hence, the main aim in treating such fractures is to restore the knee extensor mechanism. Surgical options for treating patella fracture include tension band wiring, wiring through cannulated screws, fixation with plate, and sutur

Supermicrosurgical Suture-Stent Technique for A Lymphaticovenular Bypass.

BACKGROUND: Lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) is a challenging procedure and requires a sophisticated supermicrosurgical technique. The aim of this study was to evaluate and establish a discrete supermicrosurgical anastomosis method using the "suture-stent technique". METHODS: Forty-eight LVA sites of twenty patients with lower extremity lymphedema who had undergone LVA between July 2020 and January 2021 were included in this study. LVA was performed with the conventional technique or with the suture-stent technique. The patency of the anastomoses was evaluated using an infrared camera syst

An absorbable thread suture technique to treat snoring.

We investigated a novel, minimally invasive surgery that uses an absorbable suture technique to treat snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea. This simple procedure was developed to increase the stiffness of the soft palate and to promote uvula elevation with sutures. Thirty-five snorer and mild obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients were included in this study. The palate was sutured with the newly developed technique. The results of our surgery were evaluated using polysomnography (PSG), the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), and a visual analogue scale (VAS) before surgery and 90 days afte

Modification of the pull-in suture technique for mallet finger.

INTRODUCTION: Mallet finger injuries are common and involve disruption of the terminal extensor mechanism overlying the distal interphalangeal joint. Many operative techniques have been advocated. The pull-in suture technique is a useful surgical procedure for the treatment of mallet finger. Although this procedure allows accurate realignment of the tendon-bone, it has limitations. PURPOSE: To eliminate these limitations, we present here a modification of the pull-in suture technique. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From January 2008 to October 2009, 10 mallet fingers treated using this modification w

Coracoclavicular stabilization using a suture anchor technique.

Multiple fixation options exist for coracoclavicular stabilization, but many are technically demanding and require hardware removal. In the study reported here, we reviewed a specific fixation technique that includes suture anchors moored in the base of the coracoid process. We retrospectively reviewed 24 consecutive cases of patients who underwent coracoclavicular stabilization with a suture anchor for a type III or type V acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation or a group II, type II or type V distal clavicle fracture. Eighteen of the 22 patients had full strength and painless range of motio

Effect of suturing technique on corneal xenograft survival.

PURPOSE: Understanding xenograft rejection is crucial for the potential introduction of xenotransplantation into clinical practice. Small-animal models play an essential role in this context and substantially contribute to our knowledge about mechanisms of xenograft rejection. METHODS: Rat-to-mouse corneal xenografts were performed by using 2 suturing techniques. Sutures were left either as long or as short as possible to limit the extent of a nonspecific inflammatory response. Cyclosporine A (CsA), monoclonal antibody anti-T cells, and a specific inhibitor of inducible NO synthase (alone or

Pull-in suture technique for the treatment of mallet finger.

BACKGROUND: Mallet finger deformity is a common disability that causes discomfort and inconvenience to the patient. Although numerous operative techniques have been described, surgical management remains controversial. METHODS: Between 2002 and 2004, 19 patients with an unsuccessful splinting regimen history, chronic deformities of tendinous origin (>3 months after the injury), or fractures involving 30 percent or more of the articular surface underwent surgical treatment. In 11 patients, chronic mallet finger deformity with tendinous origin was present, whereas eight patients presented with

Controlled reopen suture technique for pyloric exclusion.

BACKGROUND: Pyloric exclusion had been widely used in the management of complicated duodenal injuries. The original concept of pyloric exclusion was that this technique would temporarily exclude the pylorus during the healing phase, but would subsequently allow resumption of normal gastrointestinal tract transit through the duodenum. The best method for pyloric exclusion has not been well established. Controversies exist regarding the need for a gastrojejunostomy and vagotomy as part of the procedure. None of these combinations can fulfill the original concept of pyloric exclusion and avoid la

An adjustable double running suture technique for keratoplasty.

In a retrospective analysis, we examined 30 consecutive cases of penetrating keratoplasty in which a double running 10-0/11-0 nylon suture technique was used and the 10-0 suture was adjusted early in the postoperative period to reduce astigmatism. When the response to suture adjustment was inadequate, the presence of the 11-0 suture allowed for early (ten to 18 weeks) removal of the 10-0 suture. Rapid visual recovery (12.3 +/- 0.95 weeks; mean +/- standard error) and low levels of final astigmatism (2.66 +/- 0.24 diopters) were achieved. Visual acuity was 20/20 to 20/40 in 25 of the 28 patient
