Tamarind Multifunctional Protein: Safety and Anti-Inflammatory Potential in Intestinal Mucosa and Adipose Tissue in a Preclinical Model of Diet-Induced Obesity.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity has emerged as one of the main public health problems. This condition triggers a series of hormonal and metabolic changes related to a low-grade chronic inflammatory condition. The trypsin inhibitor purified from tamarind (TTIp) seeds is a promising anti-inflammatory molecule, but its safety needs to be evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate TTIp bioactive dose effects on organs involved in its metabolism (liver and pancreas) and affected tissues (small intestine and perirenal adipose tissue) in an obesity model. METHODS: Three groups of adult male Wistar rats were used

Development of a tamarind-based functional beverage with partially-hydrolyzed agave syrup and the health effects of its consumption in C57BL/6 mice.

Excess consumption of sweetened beverages is associated with a global rise in metabolic diseases. Tamarind and partially-hydrolyzed agave syrup have potential for developing healthier beverages. Our objective was to develop a functional beverage using these ingredients (PH-AS-B). We also evaluate shelf-life stability (physicochemical, microbiological, and antioxidant properties) and health effects in C57BL/6 mice compared with tamarind beverages sweetened with glucose or fructose. Optimal tamarind extraction conditions were a 1:10 ratio (g pulp/mL water) and boiling for 30 min, and the resulti

Molecular interaction mechanism between tamarind seed polysaccharide and gluten protein: Insights into structural modulation and physicochemical properties.

In this study, the interaction mechanism between tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP) and gluten proteins was elucidated at both structural and molecular levels. The addition of TSP significantly enhanced the water retention capacity and rheological properties of gluten proteins, indicating improved viscoelasticity and hydration characteristics. Fourier transform infrared analysis revealed increased α-helix and β-sheet contents, along with a decrease in β-turns, which contributed to a more elastic and cohesive gluten network. Raman spectroscopy indicated that tryptophan residues were embedded in

Adsorption of ciprofloxacin from aqueous solution using surface improved tamarind shell as an economical and effective adsorbent.

Antibiotics in water bodies are emerging as an alarming new pollutant because of its persistent and recombinant nature. In recent period of human lifestyle, pharmaceutical products play a vital role in many perspectives. Due to this unpredictable usage of products, the unreacted components release into waterbodies in trace quantities. Eventhough these trace quantities initiate a crisis of developing resistant antibacterial strains which pose health risks to humans and animals. This work reports the batch adsorption of a fluoroquinolone, a fourth-generation antibiotic compound by a biosorbent m

Computational design and evaluation of Factor Xa inhibitory peptides derived from the Tamarind Kunitz inhibitor reactive loop.

Blood coagulation is a crucial process, and its dysregulation can lead to life-threatening conditions. Factor Xa (FXA) is a well-established therapeutic target for the management of vascular diseases, as it acts as a converging point of both intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathways. Currently available FXA inhibitors display major side effects and toxicity, necessitating novel inhibitors. We previously reported that the inhibition of FXA from the natural source by the Tamarind Kunitz Inhibitor (TKI), a Kunitz-type protease inhibitor from Tamarindus indica seeds, inhibits FXA through its se
