Evaluation of the Antimicrobial Activity of Phytochemicals from Tea and Agarwood Leaf Extracts against Isolated Bacteria from Poultry and Curd.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are becoming increasingly common, leading to a global health crisis. The effects of abusing antibiotics not only increase pathogenic resistance but also cause various diseases and syndromes. Gut microbiota contains many beneficial roles for health, while antibiotics kill both pathogens and gut microbiota which is considered one of the major side effects of antibiotics. In fact, new antibiotic compounds are needed in this urgent scenario; phytoremediation is the oldest but most effective method, and research on the antibacterial properties of several types of medic

Iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis after ingestion of kelp-containing tea.

Complementary medication is en vogue and an increasing number of patients consume herbal medicine without reporting their use to physicians. We report a case of iodine-induced hyperthyroidism due to the ingestion of a kelp-containing tea. A 39-year-old woman with multinodular goiter presented with typical signs of hyperthyroidism, which was confirmed by endocrine tests. She was not exposed to iodinated radiocontrast media and did not take medications containing iodine, such as amiodarone. However, a detailed medical history revealed that she had been treated for a period of 4 weeks by a Chines

Rock Tea extract (Jasonia glutinosa) relaxes rat aortic smooth muscle by inhibition of L-type Ca(2+) channels.

In traditional herbal medicine, Rock Tea (Jasonia glutinosa) is known for its prophylactic and therapeutic value in various disorders including arterial hypertension. However, the mechanism by which Rock Tea exerts blood pressure-lowering actions has not been elucidated yet. Our aim was to demonstrate vasorelaxing effects of Rock Tea extract and to reveal its possible action mechanism. Isometric myography was conducted on high-K+-precontracted rings from rat thoracic aorta and tested extracts at concentrations of 0.5-5 mg/ml. Whole-cell patch-clamp experiments were performed in rat aortic vasc

Development of a lateral flow immunoassay for the rapid detection of diclofenac in milk and milk tea.

Diclofenac (DCF) is widely used in veterinary medicine, but its milk residues may pose risks to human health. This study designed DCF haptens using computer modeling and developed an anti-DCF monoclonal antibody (mAb) with milk samples, achieving a semi-inhibitory concentration of 0.379 ng/mL. A lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) was created to detect DCF residues in milk and milk tea, with calculated limits of detection (cLOD) of 0.083 ng/mL for milk and 0.055 ng/mL for milk tea. The results obtained from the LFIA assay for real samples, as well as the recovery rates, were consistent with those
