Temperature-comfort discordance and an expert-informed perioperative thermal-management framework in robotic urologic surgery: a sequential multimethod study.

Core temperature is central to perioperative hypothermia (PH) prevention, but normothermia may not ensure thermal comfort. We examined temperature-comfort discordance, quantified PH burden, and developed an expert-informed management framework for robotic urologic surgery. This sequential multimethod study comprised three complementary stages. Stage I examined paired temperature-Cold Discomfort Scale states across four post-anesthesia care unit assessments in an 80-patient nonconcurrent controlled cohort. Stage II characterized PH burden and associated factors at 10 peri-anesthetic time points

Design and Development of Internet of Things-Driven Fault Detection of Indoor Thermal Comfort: HVAC System Problems Case Study.

Controlling thermal comfort in the indoor environment demands research because it is fundamental to indicating occupants' health, wellbeing, and performance in working productivity. A suitable thermal comfort must monitor and balance complex factors from heating, ventilation, air-conditioning systems (HVAC Systems) and outdoor and indoor environments based on advanced technology. It needs engineers and technicians to observe relevant factors on a physical site and to detect problems using their experience to fix them early and prevent them from worsening. However, it is a labor-intensive and t

Ultrasonic vocalization responses of rat pups to acute separation and contact comfort do not depend on maternal thermal cues.

In order to assess the importance of maternal thermal cues in controlling the acute USV responses of rat pups to contact with her body (the contact comfort response) and to separation from her, we drastically altered maternal temperature by inducing severe hypothermia so that maternal rectal and flank temperatures averaged more than 20 degrees C below normal and 10 degrees C below ambient levels during testing. Isolated 12- to 13-day-old pups showed reductions in USV when these cold dams were presented and brisk USV accelerations when the cold dams were removed from the test chamber. These res

Design, Characterization, and Evaluation of Textile Systems and Coatings for Sports Use: Applications in the Design of High-Thermal Comfort Wearables.

Exposure to high temperatures during indoor and outdoor activities increases the risk of heat-related illness such as cramps, rashes, and heatstroke (HS). Fatal cases of HS are ten times more common than serious cardiac episodes in sporting scenarios, with untreated cases leading to mortality rates as high as 80%. Enhancing thermal comfort can be achieved through heat loss in enclosed spaces and the human body, utilizing heat transfer mechanisms such as radiation, conduction, convection, and evaporation, which do not require initial energy input. Among these, two primary mechanisms are commonl

Effect of ambient cold exposure on pain modulation: exploring individually reported thermal comfort as moderating factor in a crossover study of young adults.

OBJECTIVES: Pain is a hallmark of musculoskeletal conditions. Some studies suggest that pain is exacerbated by working in cold environments, potentially due to poorly understood mechanisms within the somatosensory system. The aim of this study was to assess whether ambient cold exposure influences the efficiency of endogenous pain inhibition and the potential role of subjective thermal comfort. METHODS: In a crossover study with 1 week interval and in randomized order, 20 healthy men were exposed to cold (COLD; 10 °C) and thermoneutral (TN; 22 °C) conditions in a controlled environment room (
