Dual signal-enhanced immunochromatographic test strip based on Au@PtNPs: From sensitive detection of thiamethoxam to multiplex pesticide screening in vegetables.

Immunochromatographic test strip (ICTS) is a rapid analytical technique widely used in environmental and food detection owing to its merits of simple operation and short analysis time. Herein, three-dimensional nanoflower-structured gold‑platinum nanoparticles (Au@PtNPs) were synthesized via a seed-growth method. Compared with conventional gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), Au@PtNPs exhibited stronger signal intensity, excellent catalytic performance, and efficient antibody binding efficiency. Colorimetric Au@PtNPs-ICTS and catalytic colorimetric Au@PtNPs-ICTS were developed for the sensitive detecti

Investigation of dissipation kinetics and half-lives of fipronil and thiamethoxam in soil under various conditions using experimental modeling design by Minitab software.

To determine the extent of pesticide buildup and their environmental contamination, the environmental half-lives of pesticides are examined. The influence of the factors affecting the half-lives of fipronil and thiamethoxam including soil type, sterilization, temperature, and time and their interactions was studied using experimental modeling design by Minitab software. Based on the dissipation kinetics data, fipronil concentrations reduced gradually over 60 days while thiamethoxam concentrations decreased strongly. Also, fipronil and thiamethoxam dissipated more rapidly in calcareous soil tha

Degradation of the insecticides thiamethoxam and imidacloprid by zero-valent metals exposed to ultrasonic irradiation in water medium: electrospray ionization mass spectrometry monitoring.

The degradation of thiamethoxam (1) and imidacloprid (2), prototype neonicotinoid insecticides bearing a characteristic N-NO2 moiety in their structures, promoted by a number of zero-valent metals (Fe, Sn, Zn) upon ultrasonic irradiation in acidic aqueous solution (pH 2) was investigated. It was verified that thiamethoxam (1) and imidacloprid (2) are quickly and almost completely consumed under these experimental conditions (degradation >90% after a reaction time of 30 min) and that ultrasonic irradiation strongly enhances the degradation rate for both insecticides, especially when zinc and ti

Characterization of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors from the insects Aphis craccivora, Myzus persicae, and Locusta migratoria by radioligand binding assays: relation to thiamethoxam action.

Thiamethoxam, a new neonicotinoid insecticide acting at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, was characterized in competition binding assays with [3-H]-imidacloprid, a specific nicotinic ligand, using membranes from the aphids Aphis craccivora and Myzus persicae, and from the locust Locusta migratoria. In all insects, Scatchard analysis suggested two binding sites for imidacloprid with Kd values in the range of 1 nM and 10 nM, respectively. The Hill values were significantly below 1 (range of 0.63 to 0.85). In contrast to imidacloprid and nicotine, the potency of thiamethoxam to displace [3-H]-i

Comparative toxicity of thiamethoxam and abamectin in red swamp crayfish: Bioaccumulation, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota in a rice-crayfish Co-culture system.

The expansion of integrated agriculture-aquaculture systems, while economically beneficial, introduces complex environmental challenges, particularly concerning pesticide runoff and its impact on non-target aquatic species. The rice-crayfish co-culture system, a prevalent agricultural model in China, exemplifies this dichotomy, where crop protection practices may inadvertently compromise the health of co-cultured organisms. Here this study investigate the ecotoxicological effects of two widely used pesticides-thiamethoxam (TMX), a neonicotinoid insecticide, and abamectin (ABM), a macrocyclic l

Modulatory role of dietary Thymus vulgaris essential oil and Bacillus subtilis against thiamethoxam-induced hepatorenal damage, oxidative stress, and immunotoxicity in African catfish (Clarias garipenus).

Thiamethoxam (TMX) is a widely used neonicotinoid insecticide for its effective potential for controlling insects from the agricultural field, which might induce toxicity to the aquatic biota. In this study, the role of the probiotic Bacillus subtilis (BS) and a phytogenic oil extract of Thymus vulgaris essential oil (TVEO) in the modulation of thiamethoxam (TMX)-induced hepatorenal damage, oxidative stress, and immunotoxicity in African catfish (Clarias garipenus) has been evaluated. Fish were subjected to TMX (5 mg L-1) and fed with a diet either supplemented with BS (1000 ppm) or TVEO (500

Chronic thiamethoxam exposure impairs the HPG and HPT axes in adult Chinese rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus): Docking study, hormone levels, histology, and transcriptional responses.

Thiamethoxam has emerged as an environmental contaminant detected in aqueous environments, and its endocrine-disrupting effect at chronic exposure in teleosts remains unknown. In the present study, a docking experiment and an in vivo test were integrated to systematically explore the toxic mechanisms of thiamethoxam in fish. Histological analysis, plasma VTG and hormone level (E2, 11-KT, T3 and T4) determinations, and HPG and HPT gene expression quantification were performed after Chinese rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus) was exposed to thiamethoxam (0, 0.5, 5, and 50 μg/L) for 90 days. Integration of histopathology, transcriptomics and non-targeted metabolomics reveals toxic effects of thiamethoxam under acute stress in mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Longke-11 mirror).

In recent years, the increasing application of thiamethoxam (THM), coupled with its high leaching and solubility in water, has led to growing concerns regarding THM residues in aquatic environments, which may pose toxic effects on aquatic organisms, particularly fish. However, the toxicological mechanisms of THM in freshwater fish remain unclear. In this study, using histopathology, transcriptomics, and non-targeted metabolomics, the toxic effects of different concentrations of THM under acute stress (96 h) were investigated in mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Longke-11 mirror). The results s

Joint toxic impacts of cadmium and three pesticides on embryonic development of rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus).

Although rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus) has been employed in many toxicological investigations, most of them have only assessed the impacts of single chemical. In our current work, we investigated the single and joint toxic impacts of heavy metal cadmium (Cd) and three pesticides (thiamethoxam, bifenthrin, and tebuconazole) on G. rarus embryos. Results from the 96-h semi-static toxicity assay exhibited that bifenthrin possessed the highest intrinsic toxic effect on rare minnows with an LC50 value of 1.86 mg L-1, followed by tebuconazole with LC50 values of 4.07 mg L-1. Contrarily, thiamethoxa

Structural and mechanistic insights into BoCSP1-mediated resistance to neonicotinoids in Bradysia odoriphaga.

The chemosensory protein (CSP)-mediated sequestration resistance mechanism has attracted increasing attention. This study revealed that a laboratory-selected clothianidin-resistant strain of Bradysia odoriphaga exhibited moderate cross-resistance to thiamethoxam. qPCR analysis demonstrated significant upregulation of BoCSP1 expression in the resistant strain, and its transcription could be induced by clothianidin exposure. RNAi-mediated silencing of BoCSP1 increased the susceptibility of resistant larvae to both clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Fluorescence competitive binding assays showed stro
