The rapid evolution of reproductive tissue engineering has positioned biomaterials as key enabling tools for the development of artificial ovary technologies aimed at fertility preservation and ovarian function restoration. Conventional assisted reproductive technologies mainly target late-stage folliculogenesis and remain inadequate for conditions involving early follicle depletion, such as gonadotoxic cancer therapies and premature ovarian insufficiency. This systematic review, conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines, critically examines biomimetic scaffold strategies for ovarian

Current therapies of organ failure or a wide range of tissue defect are often not ideal. Transplantation is the only effective way for long time survival. But it is hard to meet huge patients demands because of donor shortage, immune rejection and other problems. Tissue engineering could be a potential option. Choosing a suitable scaffold material is an essential part of it. According to different sources, tissue engineering scaffold materials could be divided into three types which are natural and its modified materials, artificial and composite ones. The purpose of tissue engineering scaffol

BACKGROUND: Textiles in the form of surgical meshes are widely used in hernia surgery. Their porous structure allows tissue infiltration to incorporate the fabric for complete healing and device stabilization. This study was aimed to reconstitute the esophageal wall and to investigate the functional and histological consequences of a new, non-absorbable polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) mesh and an absorbable polyglactin 910 (Vicryl((R))) mesh.
METHODS: Semicircular esophageal defects of 0.5 x 1 cm were created 2 cm proximal of the cardia in 10 rabbits. This gap was bridged using either polyglac

The oesophagus acellular matrix (EAM) tissue-scaffold has the potential to serve as the foundation for a tissue-engineered oesophagus for repair of ablative defects. Similar to all collagen-based biomaterials, the EAM is subject to enzymatic degradation in vivo. The introduction of exogenous crosslinks to collagen molecules via glutaraldehyde (Glu) is the most accepted method of stabilizing collagen biomaterials, but fixation with Glu incurs adverse effects. Genipin (Gp), a naturally occurring crosslinking agent, has shown to be effective at improving the stability of collagen-based biomateria

Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting has emerged as a versatile biofabrication strategy that enables the precise, spatiotemporally controlled co-deposition of living cells, biomaterials, and bioactive agents, including growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, into geometrically defined 3D constructs. By translating digital design models derived from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or computational modeling directly into physical tissue architectures, 3D bioprinting facilitates the assembly of hierarchically organized constructs that closel

UNLABELLED: Tissue engineering strategies have emerged in response to the growing prevalence of chronic musculoskeletal conditions, with many of these regenerative methods currently being evaluated in translational animal models. Engineered replacements for fibrous tissues such as the meniscus, annulus fibrosus, tendons, and ligaments are subjected to challenging physiologic loads, and are difficult to track in vivo using standard techniques. The diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions depends heavily on radiographic assessment, and a number of currently available implants utiliz

INTRODUCTION: Periodontal disease, including gingivitis and periodontitis, is caused by dental plaque invading the periodontal tissues and is the most common oral disease. The basic treatment methods applied in the clinic can destroy dental plaque, smooth the root surface, and reduce local inflammation, but it is difficult to completely regenerate and rebuild the complex three-dimensional periodontal tissues. The rapid development of periodontal tissue engineering has led to the development of new methods for the treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are ke

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the effects of bioabsorbable magnesium wires on dermal wound healing and tissue regeneration in a murine full-thickness wound model.
APPROACH: 6 mm diameter stented dorsal skin wounds were created in C57BL/6J mice and treated with implanted WE43B magnesium alloy wires or PBS control. Wound healing was evaluated on days 7 and 28 by histology, immunohistochemistry, and micro-CT. Finite element analysis modeled mechanical strain distribution due to wire degradation during healing.
RESULTS: At day 7, magnesium wire-treated wounds showed 100% improved granulation tissue format

The regeneration of complex tissues demands advanced scaffolds that offer biomimetic support and tissue-specific bioactive guidance. However, the materials in clinic face big challenges with immune rejection, limited donors, and unsatisfactory inductive activity. Fortunately, cellulose-based scaffolds have risen as a leading sustainable platform, considering their natural abundance, inherent biocompatibility, and highly tunable properties. This review comprehensively presented their evolution from rational design to potential clinical application. The primary cellulose sources and key detailed

Biomaterial design increasingly considers how adaptive immunity influences tissue regeneration, yet most efforts have focused on T lymphocyte responses. Here, we show that D-chiral Microporous Annealed Particle (DMAP) scaffolds promote dermal appendage regeneration through engagement of humoral immunity. In a splinted full-thickness wound model, DMAP supported regeneration even when lymphocyte infiltration was restricted, indicating that infiltrating adaptive immune cells are not strictly required. Instead, DMAP activated B cells in the skin draining lymph nodes, driving germinal center format

Electrospun silk fibroin scaffolds have garnered significant interest in vascular tissue engineering due to their biocompatibility, mechanical strength, and tunable degradation. However, their lack of intrinsic cell-binding domains limits endothelialization, a critical factor for vascular graft success. This study explores the biofunctionalization of electrospun silk scaffolds with recombinant perlecan domain V (rDV) using plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) treatment, a surface modification method enabling robust covalent immobilization without the use of reagents. The biofunctionalized

Articular cartilage's avascular and aneural nature severely limits its intrinsic regenerative capacity, making injuries and degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis a significant clinical challenge. This review comprehensively examines the paradigm shift towards regenerative medicine strategies, focusing on the integration of the natural polyphenol curcumin into advanced cartilage tissue engineering. While curcumin possesses potent multi-modal therapeutic properties-including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-catabolic, and chondroprotective effects-its clinical translation is hindered by

Tendon disorders are common medical conditions that could lead to significant disability, pain, healthcare costs, and a loss of productivity. Traditional approaches require long periods of treatment, and they largely fail due to the tissues weakening and the postoperative alterations of the normal joint mechanics. To overcome these limitations, innovative strategies for the treatment of these injuries need to be explored. The aim of the present work was the design of nano-fibrous scaffolds based on poly(butyl cyanoacrylate) (PBCA), a well-known biodegradable and biocompatible synthetic polymer

Articular cartilage defects comprise a spectrum of diseases associated with degeneration or damage of the connective tissue present in particular joints, presenting progressive osteoarthritis if left untreated. In vitro tissue regeneration is an innovative treatment for articular cartilage injuries that is attracting not only clinical attention, but also great interest in the development of novel biomaterials, since this procedure involves the formation of a neotissue with the help of material support. In this work, functional alginate and waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) scaffolds have been dev

Soft tissue injuries such as volumetric muscle loss (VML) are often too large to heal normally on their own, resulting in scar formation and functional deficits. Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) scaffolds placed into these wounds have shown the ability to modulate the immune response and drive constructive healing. This provides a potential solution for functional tissue regeneration, however, these acellular dECM scaffolds are challenging to fabricate into complex geometries. 3D bioprinting is uniquely positioned to address this, being able to create patient-specific scaffolds based

Valvular heart diseases (VHDs) are currently treated using either mechanical or bioprosthetic heart valves. Unfortunately, mechanical valves require lifelong anticoagulation therapy, and bioprosthetic valves calcify and degrade over time, requiring subsequent valve replacement surgeries. Besides, both valves cannot grow with patients. Heart valve tissue engineering uses scaffolds as valve replacements with the potential to grow with patents, function indefinitely, and not require anticoagulation medication. These scaffolds provide three-dimensional supports for cellular adhesion and growth, le

The present work aimed at the production and characterization of small caliber biomimetic and bioactive tubular scaffolds, which are able to favor the endothelialization process, and therefore potentially be suitable for vascular tissue engineering. The tubular scaffolds were produced using a specially designed mold, starting from a gelatin/gellan/elastin (GGE) blend, selected to mimic the composition of the extracellular matrix of native blood vessels. GGE scaffolds were obtained through freeze-drying and subsequent cross-linking. To obtain systems capable of promoting endothelization, the sc

BACKGROUND: Biological organ engineering is a novel experimental approach to generate functional liver grafts by decellularization and repopulation. Currently, healthy organs of small or large animals and human organs with preexisting liver diseases are used to optimize decellularization and repopulation. However, the effects of morphological changes on allo- and xenogeneic cell-scaffold interactions during repopulation procedure, e.g., using scaffold-sections, are unknown. We present a sequential morphological workflow to identify murine liver scaffold-sections with well-preserved microarchite
