AIM: To identify early clinical variables that are most predictive of treatment outcome and to develop a model that will allow prediction of treatment outcomes based on these variables.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A dental trauma database was used to randomly identify patients who had received treatment for avulsed teeth between 1998 and 2007. A data extraction form was designed and completed for each tooth. Demographic, diagnostic and treatment information recorded in the patient's records, in addition to radiographs, were viewed retrospectively.
STATISTICS: The significance and the predictiv

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Over a century, an increased prevalence of gingival disease associated with increasing plasma sex steroid hormone levels has been reported. These situations present unique challenges to the oral health care professional. It is believed that hormonal fluctuations such as those associated with pregnancy, menstruation, and use of hormonal contraceptives lead to an increase in tooth mobility. However, this effect of female sex hormones on periodontal ligament and tooth supporting alveolar bone has rarely been investigated. So this study was undertaken to understand the ef

Solid and granular porous hydroxylapatite implants were compared in the surgical treatment of angular interproximal periodontal defects in 10 subjects. After completion of initial therapy, presurgical measurements of pocket depth, attachment level, gingival recession, gingival fluid and tooth mobility were recorded. Six months after the surgery the measurements were repeated. The use of both forms of porous hydroxylapatite resulted in reduction in pocket depth, and probeable attachment level gains as well as gingival recession and reduction of gingival fluid and tooth mobility. These changes w

INTRODUCTION: To investigate the differences in the incidence rates of suspected stage 0/1 osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) and incidence risk of relevant clinical findings of suspected stage 0 ONJ between patients treated with sequential therapy comprising weekly teriparatide for 72 weeks followed by alendronate for 48 weeks vs. those who received monotherapy with alendronate for 120 weeks.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Suspected stage 0/1 ONJ was defined by non-specific symptoms. Tooth mobility and periodontal symptoms (gingival bleeding, swelling, and/or pain) were selected as clinical findings of

A successful case of homologous tooth transplantation is presented. A maxillary second premolar obtained from a tooth bank was implanted into a fresh central incisor extraction site. A 3-yr follow-up radiograph indicated satisfactory apical healing and minimal replacement resorption. Clinically, the transplantation site was free of symptoms and there was no evidence of periodontal disease or tooth mobility.

BACKGROUND: Tooth loss has been linked to poor health such as chronic diseases and mobility limitations. Prospective evidence on the association between tooth loss and walking speed decline is however lacking.
AIMS: To examine the impact of tooth loss on walking speed over time and explore whether inflammation may account for this association.
METHODS: This study included 2695 persons aged 60 years and older, who were free from severe mobility limitation at baseline. Information on dental status was assessed through self-report during the nurse interview at baseline. Walking speed baseline a

Tooth transplantation has attracted great interests since ancient times. A successful case of tooth allotransplantation is presented. A mandibular first premolar from the donor was implanted into the socket of maxillary central incisor Follow up after 12 months indicated good periapical healing with no resorption. Clinically, the transplantation site was free of symptoms and there was no evidence of periodontal disease or tooth mobility. This article suggests tooth transplantation as an alternative to other restorative options.

Background and Clinical Significance: Advanced periodontitis with severe vertical bone loss and grade III mobility is usually managed by extraction and implant placement. Digital workflows and modern regenerative techniques have opened the possibility of preserving teeth that would traditionally be considered for extraction. This report describes a digitally guided modified intentional replantation (MIR) protocol applied to a maxillary tooth with severe periodontal involvement and unfavourable prognosis. Case Presentation: A 68-year-old male, non-smoker, with a history of heart transplantation

AIM: To develop a nomogram-based predictive model of tooth survival by comprehensively analysing clinical and radiographic risk factors of tooth loss (TL).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, 3447 teeth of 131 subjects who underwent non-surgical periodontal treatment were examined retrospectively within a mean follow-up period of 11.6 years. The association of risk factors including clinical and radiographic parameters with TL was assessed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. A nomogram-based predictive model was developed, and its validation and discriminatory ability

This case report of a patient with a central incisor with rapid destruction of periodontal tissues associated with pathologic tooth migration illustrates the esthetic and functional reconstruction of a severely compromised tooth. An interdisciplinary approach, including resolution of the infection and regenerative periodontal surgery followed by orthodontic tooth movement, transformed a hopeless tooth with high mobility, attachment loss approaching the apex, and a Miller Class IV recession into a clinically healthy tooth. Treatment planning for periodontally involved anterior teeth with pathol

PURPOSE: Pathologic tooth migration (PTM) is a tooth displacement which is derived from imbalance of tooth retention force and is dominantly found out in maxillary anterior area. PTM in maxillary anterior area was tried to corrected with periodontal treatment and a clear aligner in this study and the result was evaluated clinically and radiographically.
METHODS: For the treatment of a patient with chronic periodontal disease accompanied by maxillary anterior pathologic tooth migration, clear aligner was applied to move teeth after a series of case-related periodontal therapy. Clinically, prob

Objective of this study was to examine the clinical efficacy and mechanical characteristics of the modified titanium post in the restoration of subgingival defect teeth. Teeth with subgingival defects depth ≥ 2 mm were randomly restored using a fiber post after crown lengthening and a modified titanium post, respectively. Gingival index, sulcus bleeding index, probing depth, tooth mobility, and gingival papilla height were recorded before and after restoration. Tooth models with a 4 mm subgingival defect, which then underwent fiber post restoration after crown lengthening and modified titanium

OBJECTIVES: To compare periodontal parameters of splinted posterior teeth versus control teeth over ten years of supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) and to assess the survival rate of splints.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective data of 372 SPT-patients was screened for splints (composite/fiberglass-reinforced composite) in the posterior (molars/premolars) which were inserted at least ten years before due to increased tooth mobility. For each splinted tooth (test), a corresponding control tooth had to be present at the first SPT-session after splint insertion (T1). Data was assessed at T1 an

Six indexes of periodontal health were recorded in cigarette smokers, pipe/cigar smokers and nonsmokers from the Veterans Administration Dental Longitudinal Study. These indexes included calculus deposition, plaque accumulation, gingival inflammation, periodontal pocket depth, alveolar bone loss and tooth mobility. Cigarette smokers had significantly more calculus deposition than pipe/cigar smokers, although both smoker groups had more calculus than nonsmokers. Cigarette smokers accumulated slightly less plaque than pipe/cigar smokers, and both smoker groups accumulated less plaque than nonsmo

Electrosurgery and radiosurgery bear certain popularity in contemporary dentistry. Nevertheless, the inadequate treatment allocation may lead to tissue necrosis. A young female patient was referred to our department following root canal treatment (RCT) by radiosurgical device. Necrotised alveolar bone, lack of keratinized gingiva and increased tooth mobility were noticed. After considering all the treatment options, we attempted to keep the tooth. Therefore, the necrotised part of the alveolar process was removed and the gingival fringe was rejuvenated alongside root surface debridement. The t

The periodontal therapy of severely damaged teeth that have advanced bone loss, a significant degree of mobility, and often tooth migration and elongation, frequently exposes the dental clinician to difficult decisions regarding the appropriate therapy for the patient. Extensive rehabilitation, with the replacement of periodontally hopeless teeth, has biologic, prognostic, and financial limitations. A possible alternative in such cases is the transreplantation of periodontally hopeless teeth. Ankylosis of the tooth is induced by appropriate extraoral pretreatment and thus the mobility disappea

BACKGROUND: A common and persistent inflammatory condition impacting the supportive structures of teeth, periodontal disease presents notable challenges in dental healthcare. It leads to various clinical issues, including the loss of clinical attachment, increased pocket depth, and tooth mobility. The global prevalence of periodontitis is substantial, with an estimated 20%-50% of the world's population affected, particularly in developing countries. Furthermore, periodontitis often culminates in tooth loss, affecting overall health and the quality of life, particularly in aging populations. Ea
