Although intravascular thrombi and infarct-type necrosis have been reported in leiomyomas following tranexamic acid therapy, intratumoral vasculopathy resembling acute atherosis has not been reported to date in patients without exposure to gonadotropin receptor agonist. We describe a case of intratumoral vasculopathy resembling acute atherosis in a leiomyoma in a 49-year-old woman, with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia and menorrhagia, treated with tranexamic acid. The patient had no exposure to gonadotropin receptor agonists. Pathologic examination of the hysterectomy specimen showed a 5

METHODS: The authors retrospectively reviewed 79 patients with craniosynostosis who underwent either bifrontal or biparietal-occipital calvarial vault remodeling before institution of tranexamic acid (TXA) administration (non-TXA group) and 35 patients after institution of TXA administration (TXA group). The patients were analyzed in 2 groups: all open calvarial vault remodeling patients (anterior and posterior) as a whole, and anterior vaults only as a subset analysis. Primary outcomes accessed were: total intraoperative blood transfused, postoperative blood transfused, and estimated blood lo

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of tranexamic acid (TXA) use for trauma and other conditions in children is unknown.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to describe the use of TXA in United States (US) children's hospitals for children in general, and specifically for trauma.
METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of a large, administrative database of 36 US children's hospitals. We included children <18 years of age who received TXA (based on pharmacy charge codes) between 2009 and 2013. Patients were grouped into the following diagnostic categories: trauma, congenital heart surgery,

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety and effectiveness of using tranexamic acid in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
METHODS: Between May 2012 and May 2013, 88 patients (88 knees) with degenerative osteoarthritis underwent primary TKA and were divided into 2 groups (n = 44) according to whether use of tranexamic acid (15 mg/kg) or not. Seventy-seven patients (39 in trial group and 38 in control group) were enrolled in this study except 11 patients who failed to be followed up. There was no significant difference in gender, age, disease duration, body mass index, osteoarthritis grading, and preop

BACKGROUND: Tranexamic acid is a synthetic antifibrinolytic drug. It has been widely available for over 40 years, but only recently has it started to be used routinely in many surgical disciplines. For ENT surgeons, epistaxis and post-tonsillectomy bleeding contribute a significant proportion of the morbidity and emergency workload in a general ENT department. Published evidence indicates a potentially helpful role for tranexamic acid in managing epistaxis.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: To date, the benefits of tranexamic acid as a prophylactic treatment to reduce the rate and severity of post-tons

BACKGROUND: Early but not late tranexamic acid (TXA) after TBI preserves blood-brain-barrier integrity, but it is unclear if and how dose timing affects cognitive recovery beyond hours postinjury. We hypothesized that early (1 hour post-TBI) but not late (24 hours post-TBI) TXA administration improves cognitive recovery for 14 days.
METHODS: CD1 male mice (n = 25) were randomized to severe TBI (injury [I], by controlled cortical impact) or sham craniotomy (S) followed by intravenous saline at 1 hour (placebo [P1]) or 30 mg/kg TXA at 1 hour (TXA1) or 24 hours (TXA24). Daily body weights, Garci

BACKGROUND: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been used orally, intravenously, topically and intradermally (microinjection, microneedling) for treating melasma. However, the comparative efficacy of these different routes of administration remains underevaluated.
AIM: To ascertain the comparative efficacy of different routes of administration of TXA.
METHODS: In total, 100 consecutive patients with melasma (8 men, 92 women, age range 18-55 years) were randomly assigned to one of two groups comprising 50 patients each. Group A (3 men, 47 women) received oral TXA 250 mg twice daily, while group B (5 me

OBJECTIVE: Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a vital hemostatic agent in pediatric medicine, demonstrating substantial efficacy in managing both traumatic and nontraumatic hemorrhage. Although TXA has been widely adopted in adult trauma and surgical care, reducing mortality, minimizing transfusion requirements, and controlling perioperative and emergency-related bleeding, its pediatric use remains under researched, with knowledge gaps in optimal dosing, long-term safety, and thromboembolic risks. Pediatric-specific clinical guidelines remain inconsistent, necessitating further research on their role in

Tranexamic acid (TXA) has become a popular perioperative adjunct in orthopedic surgery for its ability to reduce total blood loss, transfusion rates, and associated complications. Although most data are within total hip and knee arthroplasty along with other open procedures, TXA in shoulder surgery remains less certain. Shoulder surgery encompasses a broad spectrum of techniques from minimally invasive arthroscopy to a variety of open approaches that each have distinct soft tissue planes, operative exposures, and opportunities for bleeding. Each procedure carries its own bleeding profiles, per

Excessive hemorrhage is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality in perioperative settings. Tranexamic acid (TXA), a synthetic antifibrinolytic agent, effectively reduces blood loss by preventing fibrin degradation. This review summarizes the clinical applications, efficacy, and safety considerations of TXA across various surgical specialties. A comprehensive review of studies across various surgical specialties confirms TXA's efficacy in minimizing the risk of hemorrhage and transfusion needs. While TXA is a valuable tool in hemostasis, proper patient selection and dosing are crucial to

The aim of this article was to evaluate the efficacy of tranexamic acid (TXA) to reduce blood loss after maxillofacial fracture surgery. Clinical data were collected retrospectively on patients with unilateral fractures of the zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) or mandibular condyle. Patients were then further divided into TXA and control groups according to whether or not TXA was used after surgery. The amount of postoperative blood loss was evaluated by negative pressure drainage volume. Data were statistically analysed. In patients with unilateral ZMC fractures, total postoperative blood los

INTRODUCTION: Tranexamic acid has been used for many years to minimise blood loss during surgery and, more recently, to reduce morbidity after major trauma. While small studies have confirmed reduction in blood loss during tonsillectomy with its use, the rate of primary haemorrhage following tonsillectomy has not been reported. In the UK, less than 50% of children having a tonsillectomy are managed as day cases, partly because of concerns about bleeding during the initial 24 hours following surgery.
METHODS: A retrospective review of clinical records between January 2007 and January 2013 prod

112 patients with traumatic hyphaema were investigated prospectively over a period of 3 years. 53 had conservative treatment and 59 tranexamic acid treatment. They were hospitalized, but fully mobilized. Both groups were given supplementary local therapy with glucocorticoids and mydriatics as well as monocular patching. In neither group was any re-bleeding seen. The resorption of blood was delayed in the tranexamic treated patients, which may be taken as indirect proof of the efficacy of the treatment. The longer persistence of blood in the anterior chamber in the tranexamic acid treated group

IMPORTANCE: Perioperative bleeding is common in general surgery. The POISE-3 (Perioperative Ischemic Evaluation-3) trial demonstrated efficacy of prophylactic tranexamic acid (TXA) compared with placebo in preventing major bleeding without increasing vascular outcomes in noncardiac surgery.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the safety and efficacy of prophylactic TXA, specifically in general surgery.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Subgroup analyses were conducted that compared randomized treatment with TXA vs placebo according to whether patients underwent general surgery or nongeneral surgery in

Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an essential life-saving medicine that prevents clot breakdown in patients who are haemorrhaging from trauma, childbirth, surgery and other causes. While TXA is inexpensive, it is not widely used, especially in low- and middle-income countries, which also experience challenges in the domains of blood collection, testing, storage and transfusion. TXA has been extensively studied for the treatment of traumatic, obstetric and surgical bleeding, and landmark trials have repeatedly demonstrated its safety, efficacy and life-saving potential, especially when given early (wit

Consensus does not exist regarding the best dosage regimen for using tranexamic acid (TXA) for patients undergoing open calvarial vault remodeling in craniosynostosis surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate 2 dosing protocols, as well as the cost of using TXA. Previously, the institutional protocol was to give patients undergoing open calvarial vault remodeling a loading infusion of TXA (10 mg/kg) at the start of their procedure, after which intravenous TXA (5 mg/kg/h) was given throughout surgery and for 24 hours postoperatively. In July 2015, the protocol changed to a reduced post
