[From monitoring to improvement: a data-driven learning network in outpatient mental health care].

BACKGROUND: The quality of Dutch mental healthcare is under pressure due to staff shortages and an increasing demand for care. To improve the quality of care, four outpatient mental healthcare institutions formed a learning network in 2022 for anxiety, mood and trauma en stressor related disorders. Within this network, data on treatment processes and outcomes were shared and systematically compared. This facilitated the identification of best practices and provided insights to optimize workflows, ensuring treatments are delivered more efficiently and effectively. METHOD: An observational coho

After the storm, the calm never came: Hurricane Maria-related stressors and PTSD symptoms among Puerto Rican youth.

OBJECTIVE: Youth may develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a hurricane. Triaging of mental health services is crucial to effectively deliver trauma-focused interventions following natural disasters. Given the increased likelihood of hurricanes due to the current climate crisis, this study sought to examine the dose-response effect between hurricane-related stressors and PTSD, identify a cumulative stressor cutoff score based on the number of hurricane-related stressors experienced, and identify important individual hurricane-related stressors in explaining PTSD symptoms among

Adults' Explanations for Intimate Partner Violence During Childhood and Associated Effects.

OBJECTIVES: Exposure to intimate partner violence (IPV) is known to challenge children's optimal development. This study sought to associate participants' beliefs about IPV held during childhood with their adjustment as adults, and to compare their beliefs from childhood to their beliefs in early adulthood. METHOD: A nationally representative sample of 703 Swedish young adults reported on their past and present beliefs about the causes of their parents' IPV. Standardized measures assessed their mental health (anxiety, depression, and traumatic stress symptoms) and the quality of their relatio

The Association among Childhood Trauma, Pathological Dissociation and Gambling Severity in Casino Gamblers.

UNLABELLED: The aim of the present study was to explore the role of pathological dissociation in mediating the association between childhood trauma (CT) and gambling severity. One hundred seventy-one (134 men and 37 women) gamblers recruited in gambling environments (i.e., two Italian casinos) have been enrolled in the study. Psychopathological assessments included the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the Dissociative Experiences Scale-Taxon (DES-T), the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), the CAGE and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. A mediational model, analyzing the direct and

Epidemiology of trauma: Childhood adversities, neighborhood problems, discrimination, chronic strains, life events, and daily hassles among people with a severe mental illness.

Trauma during childhood and adolescence is a common event among people with a serious psychological disorder. Few studies assess a wide range of stressors for this population. This is surprising given that these stressful events are implicated in poorer outcomes related to course and treatment of mental health problems. This study of 214 people with serious mental illness examines the prevalence of childhood traumas, perceived neighborhood problems, discrimination, chronic strains, negative life events, and daily hassles. We use regression analyses to determine if these stressors are associate

Lifetime and current mental health based on avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder history versus other eating disorder history in the Healthy Minds Study.

OBJECTIVE: Research on psychiatric comorbidities associated with avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) primarily compares ARFID versus anorexia nervosa (AN). Little is known about comorbidities associated with mixed ARFID/other eating disorder (ED) history or ARFID comorbidities relative to EDs beyond AN. This study assessed lifetime and current psychiatric factors in a large college sample with varying ED histories. METHOD: Participants were United States students from the 2021/2022 Healthy Minds Study who endorsed lifetime professionally diagnosed EDs (N = 4657). Chi-square test

Association Between Betrayal Trauma and the PAI Traumatic Stress Scale.

The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) is among the most commonly used broadband inventories of psychological functioning. For the purposes of assessing trauma specifically, the most relevant aspect of the PAI is the Traumatic Stress subscale of the Anxiety-Related Disorders scale (ARD-T), which measures the degree to which a person feels wounded by something in their past. Research suggests that ARD-T is associated with exposure to a variety of different traumatic stressors. However, there is little research on the degree to which traumatic stressors that entail a component of interperson

Lifetime trauma, recent socioeconomic stressors, and cumulative PTSD prevalence: a multi-country population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) research has largely focused on exposure to DSM-defined traumatic events, while comparatively little attention has been paid to the role of ongoing socioeconomic stressors. Few contemporary, population-based studies have examined how lifetime trauma (e.g., physical violence) and recent socioeconomic stressors jointly relate to PTSD risk, or whether the association between socioeconomic stressors (e.g., losing a job) and PTSD differs by trauma burden among trauma-exposed individuals. METHODS: We analyzed data from the Global Social Determinants

Emotion recognition in generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, skin picking disorder, trichotillomania, and posttraumatic stress disorder: a systematic review.

This systematic review evaluates patterns of emotion recognition in anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related, and trauma- and stressor- related disorders (generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, skin picking disorder, trichotillomania, and posttraumatic stress disorder). A comprehensive literature search identified 15 studies. Emotion recognition patterns were reviewed for each disorder. After considering strengths and weaknesses of individual studies and the literature as a whole, trends across disorders support a decreased recognition of sadness and an anger

[Anxiety disorders in DSM-5: an overview on changes in structure and content].

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5) "anxiety, obsessive-compulsive spectrum, posttraumatic, and dissociative disorders" work group addressed reconceptualization issues regarding all anxiety-related disorders. Based on systematic literature reviews, reanalyses of available data and evaluation of results following the DSM-5 principles it was decided to rearrange the disorder spectrum into separate groupings for the classical anxiety disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and dissociative disorders. Among the

Discrimination and Posttraumatic Symptomatology Among Trauma-exposed Sexual Minority Women and Transgender and Gender-Diverse People.

Sexual and gender minority women (SMW) and transgender and/or gender-diverse (TGD) people experience high rates of trauma, resulting in mental health disparities such as posttraumatic stress disorder. Nevertheless, contributors to posttraumatic stress symptoms among SMW and TGD people remain underexamined relative to cisgender, heterosexual people. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether stressors uniquely experienced by minoritized populations (e.g., discrimination) contribute to symptoms over and above general stressors (e.g., trauma exposure). The present study used path analysis to test wh

Perspectives of a newly developed UK major trauma and plastics psychology service: A qualitative service evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: Despite evidence of frequent adverse psychological reactions including PTSD in major trauma survivors, psychological support represents a frequent gap in UK major trauma care pathways. North Bristol Trust Major Trauma and Plastics Psychology Service has been newly developed in response at an NHS Major Trauma Centre (MTC). The service aims to address patients' psychological needs early on and throughout recovery from major trauma, alongside physical and functional recovery. Thus, a qualitative service evaluation was conducted. It aimed to explore major trauma clinicians' perspecti

Trauma and hallucinations across the sensory modalities: the importance of considering experiences in childhood and adulthood.

It is widely acknowledged that trauma is related to auditory hallucinations in psychotic disorders. Yet, this relationship has not been well explored in hallucinations across other sensory modalities. The current study investigated whether hallucination modality groups (auditory, visual, olfactory, tactile, multisensory) were significantly related to physical, sexual, or emotional trauma. The age at which the trauma was experienced (16 or below, 17 and above) was also considered. Multivariate linear models, analysis of variance, and regression analyses for sixty-six participants with a psychot

The impact of hurricane trauma and cultural stress on posttraumatic stress among hurricane Maria survivors relocated to the U.S. mainland.

OBJECTIVES: Following Hurricane Maria, scores of Puerto Rican "Maria migrants" fled the island with thousands permanently resettling on the United States (U.S.) mainland. Emerging evidence suggests that many Maria migrants are exposed to migration-related cultural stressors, including discrimination, negative context of reception, and language stress. The present study examines the associations of premigration hurricane trauma and postmigration cultural stress with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity and positive PTSD screens. METHOD: Participants were 319 adult (age 18+, 71
