Diagnostic aspects of bladder angiography in urinary bladder tuberculosis.

Histopathological and angiographic findings were correlated in 6 cases of tuberculosis of the urinary bladder. The number of vessels was only slightly increased in the initial and fibrotic stages, whereas hypervascularization was observed in the exudative and productive stages. Otherwise the angiographic changes were nonspecific. Thus it was not possible to distinguish tuberculous cystitis from cystitis of other genesis, and in some instances from tumours of the urinary bladder either.

Does urinary urgency drive urinary frequency in overactive bladder?

OBJECTIVES: To determine if reduction in urgency in patients with refractory overactive bladder syndrome (rOAB) is correlated with a reduction in voiding frequency and symptom bother. METHODS: Data from a prospective series of women with rOAB undergoing radiofrequency ablation of the subtrigonal tissue, termed selective bladder denervation (SBD), was analyzed. Main outcome measures included urgency voids, nonurgency voids, and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) epidsodes from a 3-day voiding diary and quality of life (QoL) measures (Overactive Bladder Questionnaire Short Form [OAB-q SF]). Urinary Bladder Hernia: A Rare Cause of Urinary Frequency.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Hernia repair is one of the most commonly performed surgical operations worldwide. Inguinal hernia is a common condition and has a high prevalence rate. Advanced age and male sex are the most important risk factors. Inguinal hernia usually presents with groin swelling with abdominal discomfort. We report the case of a 39-year-old man who presented to our urologic clinic with a complaint of urinary frequency for the last two months. This was associated with nocturia, feeling of incomplete emptying, and groin swelling. There was no history of hesitancy, intermittency, or weak stream. The patient

The Urinary Microbiota and the Gut-Bladder Axis in Bladder Cancer.

The human bladder hosts a resident, low-biomass microbial community (urobiota) that has only become the subject of intense investigation in the last 15 years. The advantages that the urobiota may confer to the bladder, in contrast to the microbiota of other mucosal sites, remain to be elucidated. Alterations in the urobiota have been associated with various pathological urogenital conditions, including urinary tract infections (UTIs) and recurrent UTIs. A potential link between bladder cancer (BC), the ninth most common human cancer by incidence worldwide, and a dysbiotic urobiota is still unc

[The relevance of urinary bladder filling in suprapubic bladder catheterization].

Suprapubic punction of the urinary bladder (cystostomy) may cause typical, sometimes lethal injuries of pelvic organs especially in cases of an insufficient bladder filling. Some of these cases were described in the literature of legal medicine. To verify the importance of the cranial displacement of the vulnerable intestine by a filled bladder, the distances between the upper end of the symphysis and apex vesicae were measured in 76 forensic autopsies in situ and correlated with the filling volume of the urinary bladder. 69,2% of cases with a bladder filling volume up to 200 ml showed a supra

Neuroendocrine tumour of the urinary bladder.

We report a rare case of urinary bladder neuroendocrine tumour (NET) in a young, non-smoking man. He had no known risk factors and no comorbidities. After being diagnosed with a bladder tumour while being investigated for flank pain and poor renal function, he was treated with transurethral resection of the bladder tumour and deroofing of ureters bilaterally. Characteristic histological features were identified for NETs. After a thorough staging workup by CT of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis, MRI of the liver and DOTATATE positron emission tomography-CT, no other lesion or metastasis was ident

Paraganglioma of the Urinary Bladder in a Dog.

A 3-year-old male Bichon Frise developed lethargy, anorexia and haematuria. B-scan ultrasonography examination revealed a small, irregular, soft-textured mass in the bladder. Histopathologically, there was an incomplete fibrous pseudocapsule around the tumour tissue and although there was clear demarcation from the surrounding tissue, there was invasion of the capsule. Tumour cells proliferated in nests or cords of variable size, separated by fibrovascular tissue. The neoplastic cells were immunopositive for chromogranin A, synaptophysin and neuron-specific enolase, and electron microscopy rev

Spontaneous Activity and the Urinary Bladder.

The urinary bladder has two functions: to store urine, when it is relaxed and highly compliant; and void its contents, when intravesical pressure rises due to co-ordinated contraction of detrusor smooth muscle in the bladder wall. Superimposed on this description are two observations: (1) the normal, relaxed bladder develops small transient increases of intravesical pressure, mirrored by local bladder wall movements; (2) pathological, larger pressure variations (detrusor overactivity) can occur that may cause involuntary urine loss and/or detrusor overactivity. Characterisation of these sponta

Urinary bladder mass in a dog.

A 7-year-old spayed female Schnauzer dog with chronic hematuria had a soft tissue mass within the wall of the bladder. The mass was excised and, when examined histologically, was determined to be a discrete well-organized mural mass consisting of spindloid cells arranged in swirling sheets and palisades punctuated by aggregates of principally eosinophils. The overlying transitional mucosa was extensively ulcerated and focally hyperplastic and nodular with subjacent solid down growths, superficial cysts, and the extension of tubular structures deep into the submucosa. The histologic appearance

Lipoma of the urinary bladder in a cat.

A 7-year-old male Persian cat was referred for necropsy examination a with history of progressive abdominal distention, dysuria, polyuria, colic and death. At necropsy examination, a raised white unencapsulated mass (3×6×4cm) was found on the mucosal surface of the bladder. The mass was lobulated with soft consistency similar to that of adipose tissue. Microscopical examination revealed cells identical to those of normal adipose tissue. On the basis of the gross and microscopical findings, the lesion was diagnosed as a lipoma. This tumour has not been recorded previously in the urinary bladder

Malakoplakia in the urinary bladder of a kitten.

Malakoplakia is a form of chronic granulomatous inflammation that in humans most commonly affects the urinary bladder of middle-aged women. Naturally occurring malakoplakia is rare in animals, having been described twice in the pig only. An 8-week-old kitten was diagnosed with malakoplakia of the urinary bladder after a 3-week history of dysuria. Post-mortem examination revealed a markedly enlarged bladder with a diffusely nodular mucosal surface. Microscopically, there was diffuse submucosal infiltration by histiocytes stained positively by periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and described in the huma

Villous adenoma of the urinary bladder.

Villous adenomas arising in the urinary tract are an uncommon occurrence. They have been identified in the urachus, urethra, prostate, and throughout the bladder. Villous adenomas arising in the bladder are rare tumors that have been described as isolated cases and a few case series. We report a new case of a large villous adenoma arising in the bladder that was treated by transurethral resection.

Primary amyloidosis of the urinary bladder.

Amyloidosis is a systemic disease that usually occurs in the gastrointestinal tract or in muscular or adipose tissue. Primary amyloidosis of the urinary bladder is a rare disease that can mimic bladder cancer on cystoscopic examination as well as in its clinical presentation of painless gross hematuria. This report describes a 49-year-old male with repeated painless gross hematuria, who underwent transurethral resection of a suspected bladder tumor. Pathologic examination revealed papillary urothelial hyperplasia with vascular ectasia and no signs of malignancy. Massive gross hematuria occurre

Inverted papilloma of the urinary bladder.

BACKGROUND: Inverted papillomas are rare in the lower urinary tract. It is a histologically benign tumor with low grade malignant potential. Association with transitional cell carcinoma has also been reported. METHODS: Eight cases of inverted papilloma of the urinary bladder were diagnosed at this hospital between November 1990 and May 1994. There were one female and seven males with an average age of 63.5 years. We analyze their clinical presentations, histological findings and the outcome of treatments. RESULTS: Four patients presented with hematuria, and four with obstructive symptoms. Fo

[A case of pheochromocytoma of the urinary bladder].

A case of pheochromocytoma of the urinary bladder is reported. A 17-year-old male was admitted to our hospital because of gross hematuria and urinary retention on Nov. 10, 1985. There was no history of hypertension. Intravenous pyelography and cystogram demonstrated a filling defect in the bladder. Transabdominal sonography disclosed a solid mass in the anterior wall and bladder neck. Cystoscopic examination revealed a non-papillary and broad based tumor in the anterior wall and bladder neck. Partial resection of the bladder wall was performed under the diagnosis of bladder tumor. The histolog

Myxoid leiomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder.

A 16-year-old male patient with hematuria was found to have a 3-cm mass on the right posterolateral wall of the urinary bladder. After a biopsy specimen disclosed a myxoid tumor, a partial cystectomy was performed. The specimen contained a gelatinous tumor that, on microscopic examination, was a myxoid leiomyosarcoma similar to the neoplasm recently described in the uterus and several other locations. This tumor, which is the first of its type (to our knowledge) reported to occur in the bladder, must be distinguished from other neoplasms and nonneoplastic lesions that occur in this organ. The

[Inverted papilloma of the urinary bladder].

Five cases of inverted papilloma in the bladder are reported. All cases were males complaining of dysuria or hematuria. Total cystectomy with construction of ileal conduit was carried out in the first case, and transurethral resection in the other cases. Every surgical specimen was histologically diagnosed as inverted papilloma. The inverted papilloma is a distinct lesion characterized by its rarity compared to frequency of the other vesical papillomas. The prognosis is generally benign, but the possibility of recurrence and malignant transformation indicates the necessity of a close periodica
