Confirmation of an internal hydatid bladder fistula using postoperative methylene blue retrograde injection via urinary catheter: a case report.

Abdominal hydatidosis resulting in an internal hydatid bladder fistula postoperatively is quite rare and might have serious consequences without timely treatment. A 74-year-old Tibetan woman presented with abdominal distension and was diagnosed with hydatid disease. Cyst contents were removed, and the pericyst was partially resected without contraindication. Furthermore, no internal urinary fistula was found before or during the operation, and the presence of an internal fistula was indicated by methylene blue retrograde injection via urinary catheter after the operation. The use of postoperat

A case of cancerous familial adenomatous polyposis in urinary bladder due to migration of colonic mucosa through rectovesical fistula.

The patient was a 50-yr-old man who had undergone low anterior resection for rectal cancer at the age of 24 yr in 1966. At that time, gastric and colonic polyposis were indicated. Postoperative anastomotic dehiscence occurred and, by 1985, a rectovesical fistula had formed. In 1986, when the patient was 44 yr old, he was examined at our hospital for constriction of the rectum due to the rectovesical fistula. Abdominoperineal excision of rectum and surgical closure of the fistula were performed, and the patient was kept under observation because of a diagnosis of familial adenomatous polyposis.

[A case of sigmoid colon cancer with a sigmoidovesical fistula treated with preoperative XELOX+bevacizumab therapy and urinary bladder-conserving surgery].

A 64-year-old man presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea, urinary pain, and frequent urination. He was diagnosed with locally advanced sigmoid colon cancer accompanied by a sigmoidovesical fistula, which was determined to require total cystectomy for curative resection.Expecting tumor shrinkage and conservation of the urinary bladder, we performed loop ileostomy followed by preoperative mFOLFOX6+bevacizumab therapy. After 1 course of administration, the implanted port became infected. Therefore, the regimen was changed to 4 courses of XELOX+bevacizumab therapy. After the treatment, there was no l

[A case of a patient with advanced rectal cancer and urinary bladder fistula surviving for 6 years after chemoradiotherapy without surgery].

A 60-year-old man with advanced rectal cancer and urinary bladder fistula received preoperative chemoradiotherapy with S-1(120mg/m / 2day)on weekdays and concurrent radiotherapy(65 Gy). After chemoradiotherapy, the clinical symptoms resolved and the tumor shrunk, as observed on endoscopic and radiologic examinations. However, remnant cancer was suspected; therefore, modified oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and Leucovorin(mFOLFOX6)therapy was initiated, although it was stopped after 3 cycles because of numbness in the lower extremities. Finally, clinical and pathological complete response(CR) was

Successful endobronchial treatment of a non-healing tracheoesophageal fistula from a previous histoplasmosis capsulatum infection using decellularized porcine urinary bladder matrix†.

Tracheoesophageal fistulas (TEF) are pathologic communications between the esophagus and the trachea or bronchi. The development of a TEF can result from malignant or benign etiologies. A common approach for the treatment of TEFs is the placement of endobronchial and esophageal stents to facilitate healing of the communication. This case report describes the successful treatment of a TEF resulting from calcified mediastinal lymphadenopathy due to a previous Histoplasmosis capsulatum infection. In addition to placement of endobronchial and esophageal stents, the non-healing TEF was treated with

Short-term results of treating primary and recurrent anal fistulas with a novel extracellular matrix derived from porcine urinary bladder.

Anal fistulas are difficult to treat because they are often recalcitrant to medical therapies and surgical treatment may lead to significant morbidities. A recent novel biologically derived graft from porcine urinary bladder (MatriStem(TM)) has shown great promise in experimental studies of tissue regeneration in diverse tissues. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the safety and short-term efficacy of MatriStem for treatment of anal fistulas. This was a retrospective study of patients treated from January 3, 2012 to March 3, 2014 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Matri

Massive hematuria due to an autogenous saphenous vein graft and urinary bladder fistula in an extra-anatomic iliofemoral bypass: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Gross hematuria caused by rupture of an artery in the urinary tract is a rare but potentially fatal condition. Iliac artery aneurysms, pelvic surgery with radiation, vascular reconstructive surgery, surgery for stenosis of the ureteropelvic junction, and transplantation are reported to be associated with this condition. In the vascular reconstructive surgery group, the most common etiology is rupture of the degenerated artery or synthetic graft in the ureter. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of rupture of the small anastomotic pseudoaneurysm at the proximal anastomosis of a

An uncommon case of inflammatory infiltration of the urinary bladder in the long-term process of the purulent inflammation of the cervix and vaginal fornix, complicated with vesicovaginal fistula of unknown etiology.

We shall discuss the case of a female patient, aged 64 years, who was suffering from long-term purulent inflammation of the vaginal fornix that later involved the vaginal stump. This inflammatory process spread to the bladder trigone and resulted in vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) formation together with a bilateral hydronephrosis that required the placement of a temporary percutaneous nephrostomy. A non-cicatrized inflammatory reaction occurred at the right-sided insertion of the nephrostomy, which has yet to be successfully treated despite intensive dermatological and surgical approaches that in

Cystohysteroscopy: novel use of semi-rigid ureteroscope to establish an access via fistulous tract between urinary bladder and vagina for confirming the diagnosis and facilitating laparoscopic repair of vesicouterine fistula.

In patients with vesicouterine fistula (VUF), identification of the fistulous tract during laparoscopic surgery remains difficult. Hysterography and intravesical instillation of dye have been the traditional methods for diagnosing VUF; now, they have been supplanted by ultrasonography, CT, and/or MRI. Unfortunately, none of the above mentioned investigations aid in identification of the fistulous tract during laparoscopic surgery or ease laparoscopic dissection. We describe a simple procedure, which we term cystohysteroscopy, that aids the diagnosis of VUF and also simplifies laparoscopic diss

Unusual complication of suprapubic cystostomy in a male patient with tetraplegia: traction on Foley catheter leading to extrusion of Foley balloon from urinary bladder and suprapubic urinary fistula--importance of securely anchoring suprapubic catheter with adhesive tape or BioDerm tube holder.

Suprapubic cystostomy is recommended to patients with neuropathic bladder to prevent complications of long-term urethral catheter drainage. We present a 50-year-old male patient with tetraplegia who had long-term urethral catheter drainage. Following flexible cystoscopy, he developed a urine leak from the right side of the scrotum. Suprapubic cystostomy was performed. After suprapubic cystostomy, the urinary fistula healed completely. A follow-up cystourethrogram confirmed an intact urethra with no leak of contrast. Six weeks later, this patient presented with a hole below the suprapubic cysto

[Enterovesical fistula secondary to Crohn's disease manifested by inflammatory pseudotumor of the bladder].

The authors describe a case of enterovesical fistulas in a patient with Crohn's disease that presented exclusively as urinary symptoms manifesting as bladder tumor. Ultrasound examination showed a normal upper urinary tract and a bladder tumor. Cystoscopy examination revealed a bladder tumor at the retrotrigonal region without showing the fistula orifice. Transurethral resection of the tumor revealed an inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder at the results of histological studies. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a normal upper urinary tract but a bladder tumor and a sigmoidovesical

Vesicoenteric Fistula Arising from an Adenocarcinoma of Ectopic Pancreatic Tissue in a Meckel Diverticulum.

We report a case of a vesicoenteric fistula arising from an adenocarcinoma of ectopic pancreatic tissue in a Meckel diverticulum in a 58-year-old man. The patient suffered from refractory micturition pain and increased urinary frequency. Computerized tomography with a contrast agent showed a ring-shaped enhanced mass near the dome of the urinary bladder. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic mass close to the urinary bladder with partly irregular wall and fistula formation to the urinary bladder. Surgical findings showed a Meckel diverticulum in the ileum, which formed a fistula with the
