BACKGROUND: Urinomas are rare and generally result from trauma to any part of the urinary collecting system. Appropriate imaging is crucial in the timely diagnosis and management of urinomas and for ruling out other etiologies such as subcapsular renal hematomas and perinephric abscesses.
CASE REPORT: A 31-year-old woman with no past medical history or known trauma presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with a week of right flank pain, abdominal pain, and intermittent fevers. On point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), she was found to have a complex right perinephric collection, later confirmed

Nephrolithiasis and nephrocalcinosis in low-birth-weight, preterm neonates are well-documented complications of furosemide administration. Perinephric urinomas and urinary ascites have been previously reported as complications of obstruction due to posterior urethral valves or ureteropelvic junction obstruction. We present an unusual case of furosemide-induced nephrolithiasis causing ureteral obstruction, urinoma, and acute renal failure in a preterm neonate.

Spontaneous rupture of the renal pelvis (SRRP) with urine extravasation is rare. This condition is primarily associated with an obstructing ureteric calculus. It creates a diagnostic dilemma, especially when the clinical diagnosis can be inconsistent. Herein, we report a 49-year-old male patient who presented with abdominal pain for the past three days and was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a right renal pelvis rupture and urinoma secondary to an obstructive 4 mm ureterovesical junction calculi. The patient was successfully treated with double-J ste

The patient was a 68-year-old female with the complaint of left flank pain. On examination, hydronephrosis of the left kidney and the urinoma of left retroperitoneal space were disclosed by abdominal computed tomographic (CT) scan. The urinoma disappeared spontaneously, but 4 months later right hydronephrosis and the urinoma of ipsilateral retroperitoneum emerged. Enhanced CT scan revealed aneurysm of bilateral common iliac arteries and perianeurysmal fibrotic mass. After steroid therapy under the diagnosis of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRPF), the fibrotic mass reduced in size and th

Urinoma is defined as an encapsulated collection of extravasated urine in the perirenal or paraureteral space. Urinomas in childhood are rare and usually either secondary to obstructive uropathies or due to blunt or penetrating trauma leading to injuries of the collecting system and/or ureter. Spontaneous perinephric urinomas are rare. We report the case of an 8-year-old boy with bilateral spontaneous perinephric urinomas secondary to an abnormally elevated voiding pressure with detrusor sphincter dyssynergia. The available literature on this subject is reviewed, and clinical features, pathoph

Presented is a case report of spontaneous rupture of the renal parenchyma associated with urinoma. A 3-year-old boy had a history of transient gross hematuria followed by sudden onset of left flank pain. Echograms and computed tomographic (CT) scan revealed a left hydronephrotic kidney with perirenal urinoma which had a cyclic change in size corresponding to the pain. Left retrograde pyelogram showed stenosis of the ureteropelvic junction without extravasation of contrast medium. A pin-hole tear was detected in the middle of the left renal parenchyma on exploratory surgery. Left pyeloplasty an

We present two cases of spontaneous rupture of the excretory tract within the context of reno-ureteral colic due to lithiasis. We comment on the etiopathogenic aspects and underscore the need for emergency evaluation in patients with very severe nephric colic and/or symptoms of peritoneal irritation (ileus, abdominal guarding), and temporary urinary diversion must be performed via nephrostomy as a palliative procedure for the symptoms and to avoid complications.

This article describes the case of a 38-year-old male who presented to the ED with three days history of gradually progressing right-sided lower abdominal pain, which had increased in severity two hours prior to his ED visit. The patient was anorexic but denied experiencing any fever, urinary malfunctions, or chills. Blood tests showed an elevated serum creatinine level of 123 umol/L and a high C-reactive protein level of 62 mg/L. Bedside point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) imaging showed right-sided mild hydroureteronephrosis with surrounding perinephric fluid. Initially, based on the patient's

PURPOSE: To examine the outcomes and complications of thermal ablation-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy was employed in 16 consecutive renal masses with a mean size of 3.0 cm over 12 months. The indications were primarily adjacent bowel, hilar location, or both. After RFA, the renal mass was laparoscopically excised and examined pathologically.
RESULTS: The mean operative treatment time was 99 minutes. The estimated blood loss was 121 mL, and no patient required a blood transfusion.

A woman in her late 40s presented with abdominal sepsis secondary to emphysematous pyelitis complicated by a retroperitoneal urinoma. Despite initial antimicrobial therapy, percutaneous drainage and ureteric stenting, she developed persistent thigh pain and a posterior knee sinus. Repeat cross-sectional imaging demonstrated caudal spread of infected retroperitoneal fluid and gas along the iliopsoas and fascial planes into the thigh. Subsequent imaging identified a fistulous communication involving the colon. The exact sequence of fistula formation could not be determined, and causation between

Acute ureteric obstruction is a common urological presentation, but complications such as spontaneous calyceal rupture leading to a urinoma and hemorrhage are rare. This report details the case of a 43-year-old male who presented with acute right flank pain and chills due to severe right hydroureteronephrosis caused by two large obstructive ureteric stones. Initial computed tomography (CT) of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder (KUB) revealed a large peri-renal fluid collection (approximately 6.9 cm) with heterogeneous hyperdense components (measuring approximately 47 Hounsfield units), consiste

BACKGROUND: Renal fornices rupture with urinoma formation in fetuses is an unusual condition that acts as a 'pop off' mechanism to buffer renal pelvis pressure. Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is the most common cause of prenatal hydronephrosis, but it rarely leads to the formation of urinoma. Fetal urinoma could be indicative of poor renal function after birth. We report a rare case of UPJO-related urinoma accompanied with urinary ascites, which ruptured during vaginal delivery.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital at 25+3 weeks gestation for fetal bi

A 62-year-old man with newly diagnosed prostate adenocarcinoma underwent initial staging with 99mTc-PSMA and 99mTc-MDP whole-body scans. The bone scan revealed a small zone of tracer activity superior to the left kidney. Subsequent 99mTc-PSMA SPECT/CT revealed a fluid density collection in the left perinephric and pararenal space, extending from the left subdiaphragmatic area to the pelvic inlet. PSMA tracer activity was seen around the left kidney. Contrast-enhanced CT confirmed a perinephric fluid collection consistent with urinoma. This case underscores the importance of recognizing atypica

Posterior urethral valves (PUV) are an uncommon urologic congenital anomaly in males often discovered antenatally and more rarely after birth. PUV can lead to obstructive nephropathy and voiding dysfunction, putting patients at increased risk for irreversible renal damage and subsequent progression to end-stage renal disease. Much of the renal damage caused by PUV is proportional to the amount of time that the kidney has been experiencing retrograde pressure. Although much debate exists within the field, spontaneous decompression within the collecting system (e.g., "pop-off" valve) such as uri

The accumulation of the bone-seeking agent in the bowel during a bone scan is rare. A 68-year-old man with colon cancer underwent bone scintigraphy for staging. Whole-body images revealed an abnormal accumulation of hot radioactivity in the abdominal cavity and the colon. Abdominal CT showed a recto-abscess fistula between the rectum and the urinoma. Incidental visualization of colonic radioactivity suggested the presence of a fistula between the bowel and the urinoma, explaining the peculiar finding of the bone-seeking agent in the bowel.

Background: Splenic urinoma has not been previously reported as a complication of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL). Case Presentation: A 46-year-old Caucasian male underwent PNL for two large left renal stones. Surgery was performed in prone split-leg position, with access obtained through combined fluoroscopic guidance and direct ureteroscopic observation of the targeted calix. The tract was dilated to 30F using a pressure balloon, and complete clearance of stones was obtained through a combination of rigid and flexible nephroscopy, as well as antegrade ureteroscopy. The patient was left wi

A case is reported of a previously resected adenocarcinoma of the rectum presenting with recurrent tumor in the pelvis and an abdominal mass that was found to be a large urinoma. Dialysis was discontinued after drainage of the extravasated urine, and the patient's condition became stable. A review of the literature is also discussed.

Horseshoe kidney injuries are rare, and whether their management is similar to that of common renal injuries remains unclear. We present the case of a 41-year-old man who bruised his abdomen while riding a bicycle and experienced persistent abdominal pain. His vital signs were stable, but he had significant tenderness below the umbilicus. Contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed a horseshoe kidney injury, urine leakage, and a urinoma. Conservative treatment was performed, but the urinoma continued to enlarge. Percutaneous drainage was performed on the seventh day in the hospita

Fetal urinoma is defined as an encapsulated accumulation of extravasated urine within the perirenal space or retroperitoneum. It is an uncommon finding in prenatal practice, and the vast majority of known cases are strongly associated with the existence of a urinary obstruction, such as posterior urethral valves, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, or ureterocele. We report a unique case of prenatally detected fetal bladder urinoma that occurred in the absence of an apparent obstructive uropathy, but was associated with extensive ischemic necrosis and calcifications of adjacent bladder wall, c
