NTRK rearranged spindle cell neoplasm of the uterine cervix: a rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase (NTRK) rearranged spindle cell neoplasm is an emerging group of molecularly defined rare soft tissue tumors, often presenting with a monotonous spindle cell morphology, infiltrative growth, and co-expression of S-100 and CD34 proteins by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Accurate diagnosis necessitates the combination of morphology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular test results, with next-generation sequencing (NGS) as the gold standard. We present a rare case of NTRK rearranged spindle cell neoplasm of the uterine cervix and review the literature

Cesarean section scar mimicking uterine malignant neoplasm at positron emission tomography/computed tomography.

Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is a functional imaging method of metabolic processes and is being used extensively in gynecologic oncology for treatment planning. However, some hypermetabolic conditions may mimic malignant neoplasms. We report a case with a positive finding at PET/CT examination of the uterus that proved to be a cesarean section scar with high expression of glucose transporter-1 and glucose transporter-4. This case report emphasizes the value of the knowledge of patient history and awareness of the limitations of PET/CT to enable a correct diagnosis

Unique collision of hodgkin lymphoma and adenosquamous carcinoma in the uterine cervix: synchronous malignant neoplasms of the cervix.

To document the first reported synchronous occurrence of Hodgkin lymphoma and adenosquamous carcinoma involving the female genital tract. Review of cytologic, histologic, and immunohistochemical studies obtained from a 50-year-old, multiparous, postmenopausal, Hispanic female who had a left inguinal mass, bilateral lower extremity pain and numbness, fatigue, anorexia, a 20- to 30-pound weight loss, and a malodorous vaginal discharge at presentation is presented. Cervical squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed by routine cytologic and histologic analysis. Hodgkin lymphoma subsequently was diagno

Rhabdomyosarcoma with heterologous cartilage of the uterine cervix: a clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study of an aggressive neoplasm in a young female.

This report concerns a 20-year-old female who had a F.I.G.O. stage I rhabdomyosarcoma (sarcoma botryoides) of the cervix with a predominant embryonal pattern and heterologous cartilage that pursued an aggressive course despite surgery and chemotherapy. The patient had a pelvic recurrence, developed pulmonary metastases 15 months after diagnosis, and died 6 months later. Despite some previously published favorable prognostic assessments about this unique variant of cervical rhabdomyosarcoma, our limited experience would interject a note of caution, especially in the presence of a focal alveolar

Uterine NTRK-Rearranged Spindle Cell Neoplasm With Unusual Morphology-A Case Report and Literature Review.

NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasm is a rare lesion in the uterus (including the cervix), with more than 60 tumors reported in the literature so far. Most of them are characterized by fascicles of spindle cells in herringbone pattern with entrapment of endocervical glands. We report an additional tumor occurring in the uterine cervix of a 43-year-old Chinese woman, which demonstrated unusual morphologic features in addition to the conventional fibrosarcoma-like spindle cell proliferation. These included areas of neural-like whorls, as well as nuclear palisading that resembled a schwannoma.

Meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of Xihuang Pills/capsules in adjuvant treatment of uterine cervical neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: Xihuang Pills/Capsules have a longstanding history of utilization in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for treating cancer. Nevertheless, a comprehensive investigation is required regarding the specific impacts and safety of Xihuang Pills/Capsules in individuals with uterine cervical neoplasms. Thus, conducting a meta-analysis is essential to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of combining Xihuang Pills/Capsules with Western medicine in patients with cervical neoplasms. METHODS: The research involved searching 5 English and 4 Chinese databases for randomized controlled trials (R

A variant of TP53 gene (rs 1625895, 13494g>A) is associated with neoplasm localization in patients with uterine leiomyoma.

Background. Comminuted fractures of the distal epiphysis and metaphysis of the tibia with penetration to the ankle joint, which occur rarely, are known as "pilon fractures". Material and methods. From 1996 to 2001, eight cases of distal tibia epiphysis fractures (pilon fractures), including four cases of open fractures, were treated by the Ilizarow technique. According to the Rüedi-Allgöwer classification, there were two patients with type I fractures, four patients with type II fractures, and two patients with type III fractures. Four patients were treated on an emergency basis, while two oth

RNF19A::PLAG1-rearranged uterine mesenchymal tumor with myofibroblastic features and focal adipocytic differentiation: broadening the histologic and molecular genetic spectrum of PLAG1-rearranged uterine mesenchymal neoplasms.

In the uterus, PLAG1-rearranged mesenchymal tumors are increasingly recognized, most being myxoid leiomyosarcomas. Here we report a unique PLAG1-rearranged uterine mesenchymal tumor with myofibroblastic features and focal adipocytic differentiation in a 50‑year‑old woman. The 2.7‑cm tumor, preoperatively suspected as leiomyoma, showed bland spindle to epithelioid cells arranged in solid sheets or fascicles within a predominantly fibrous stroma with focal myxoid change, admixed with scattered mature adipocytes. Mitotic activity was low and necrosis was absent. The tumor cells co‑expressed CD34,

Mendelian randomization analysis reveals genetic evidence for a causal link between inflammatory bowel disease and uterine cervical neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been reported to be associated with risk of uterine cervical neoplasm. We aimed to evaluate the causal relationship between IBD and uterine cervical neoplasm using a bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis. METHODS: We derived instrumental variables for IBD, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, from the IEU Open genome-wide association study (GWAS) database, and for the histological subtypes of uterine cervical neoplasm from the FinnGen repository's GWAS data. The collected GWAS data predominantly represent individuals of Eu

Do urinary bladder smooth muscle neoplasms show morphologic and immunophenotypic features of their uterine fumarate hydratase-deficient counterparts?

While the morphologic and immunophenotypic features of smooth muscle neoplasms of the uterus and skin have been well-described in relationship to fumarate hydratase (FH) deficiency (FHD), a potential association of urinary bladder smooth muscle tumors with FH tumor predisposition syndrome (FHTPS) has not been previously investigated. Given an index urinary bladder leiomyoma which showed some of the purported morphologic features seen in uterine FHD leiomyomas, we performed a multi-institutional search for bladder smooth muscle tumors to further evaluate a putative FHTPS association. Cases were

Hyalinized Uterine Mesenchymal Neoplasms with HMB-45-Positive Epithelioid Cells: Epithelioid Leiomyomas or Angiomyolipomas? Report of Four Cases.

We present 4 cases of uterine mesenchymal tumors that were located mostly in the myometrium in middle-aged women. Grossly the tumors vaguely resembled conventional leiomyomas. All tumors were extremely hyalinized. The tumor cells were remarkable because of their large size and epithelioid shape. They occurred singly or more often in variously sized clusters with pericellular clear spaces looking like a halo. The extracellular matrix often formed lacunae around the neoplastic cells. The lacunar type of growth was somewhat reminiscent of immature cartilage. In some places the cells lined up in v

TLR9 gene polymorphism -1486T/C (rs187084) is associated with uterine cervical neoplasm in Mexican female population.

PURPOSE: The aim of this work was to evaluate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms in TLR9 (-1486 T/C [rs187084], -1237T/C [rs5743836] and G2848A [rs352140]) with HPV infection, squamous intraepithelial lesions, and uterine cervical neoplasm in a Mexican population. Additionally, the peripheral expression of TLR9 was evaluated to evaluate the differences in the TLR9 expression associated with every genotype in the locus -1486 of the TLR9 gene. The serum concentration of TLR9 was evaluated in a randomly selected subsample. METHODS: Genotyping was performed using predesigned 5' en

Uterine carcinosarcoma due to foreign body (migrated intrauterine device): an extremely rare etiology of gynecological neoplasm.

INTRODUCTION: Uterine carcinosarcomas are extremely rare gynecological neoplasms. The coexistence of intraabdominal foreign bodies, such as migrated IUDs, and uterine neoplasms, particularly carcinosarcomas, represents a significant clinical challenge and infrequent association. Chronic inflammation associated with foreign bodies can act as a cofactor in carcinogenesis and explain the appearance of these tumors. CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old woman with a history of cesarean section, presented to the emergency department with a 5-day complaint of abdominal pain, nausea and constipation. An

Uterine Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Neoplasms With Aggressive Behavior, Including an Epithelioid Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Sarcoma: A Clinicopathologic Study of 9 Cases.

The experience with uterine inflammatory myofibroblastic neoplasms with an unfavorable outcome is limited. We present the clinicopathologic features of 9 such cases, including 8 inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) and 1 epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS). Median patient age for the IMT group was 50.5 years; the patient with EIMS was 43 years old. Patients presented with abnormal uterine bleeding, presumed fibroids, pelvic pain, arthralgia and low-grade fever, as well as an incidental finding. Median tumor size for the IMTs was 8.5 cm. The borders were either infiltr

Comparative genomic hybridization of estrogen-induced ectopic uterine-like stem cell neoplasms in the hamster kidney: nonrandom chromosomal alterations.

Karyotype and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) analyses were performed to identify nonrandom/consistent chromosomal alterations in solely estrogen (E)-induced primary ectopic uterine-like stem cell tumors in the kidney (EULTK) of the Syrian hamster, using a criterion of >/=20% frequency for nonrandom occurrence. Employing this criterion, EULTK karyotype analysis showed consistent gains in chromosomes 3, 6, 11, 14, 16, 20, and 21. Consistent trisomies were seen in all of these nonrandomly gained chromosomes. Only chromosomes 3 and 6 exhibited appreciable tetrasomies. Chromosome losses we

Uterine and vaginal sarcomas resembling fibrosarcoma: a clinicopathological and molecular analysis of 13 cases showing common NTRK-rearrangements and the description of a COL1A1-PDGFB fusion novel to uterine neoplasms.

Mesenchymal neoplasms of the uterus (corpus and cervix) encompass a heterogeneous group of tumors with differing morphologies, immunophenotypes and molecular alterations. With the advent of modern molecular techniques, such as next generation sequencing, newly defined genetic abnormalities are being reported in this group of neoplasms. Herein we report the clinicopathological and molecular features of a series of 13 spindle cell sarcomas of the uterus and vagina (10 cervix, 2 uterine corpus, 1 vagina) with morphology resembling fibrosarcoma. After targeted RNA-sequencing, dual FISH fusion and

[Epidemiology of malignant neoplasms of the breast, uterine cervix, endometrium, and rectum of females in the G.D.R., 1962--1972 (author's transl)].

Based on a model described earlier, the time trend of incidence, mortality, prevalence, duration of medical care and 5-years survival rate is calculated for the following malignant neoplasms of female population in the G.D.R.: breast, uterine cervix , corpus uteri and chorionephithelioma (combined), and rectum (ICD 8th, revision Nos. 174, 180, 181/182, 154). Calculated rates agree quite well with published observations. The results support the assumption that care of cancer patients could be improved between 1962 and 1972. Some suggestions for further development of cancer control are discusse
