Selection of Vascular Closure Devices in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.

Various vascular closure devices (VCDs) are commonly used for percutaneous transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, superiority and safety profile among them remain unclear. We compared periprocedural complications among various VCDs in patients undergoing TAVR. PubMed and EMBASE were searched through January 2022 to identify clinical studies comparing any 2 VCDs of Prostar, Proglide and MANTA in patients who underwent TAVR. Studies using surgical cut-down or alternative access other than transfemoral approach were excluded. We analyzed the odds ratios (ORs) of vascular complica

Complication rates associated with antegrade use of vascular closure devices: a systematic review and pooled analysis.

BACKGROUND: Vascular closure devices (VCDs) have become a mainstay in endovascular interventions in recent years. On-label use only allows for retrograde interventions originating at the common femoral artery (CFA). However, off-label use in antegrade and/or superficial femoral artery (SFA) access has become more common in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease. Despite this, there is a paucity of comparative literature assessing individual VCD safety profiles and relative complication risks of CFA vs SFA applications. METHODS: MEDLINE and EMBASE systematic searches were performed from

Comparison of collagen-based vascular closure devices in patients with vs. without severe peripheral artery disease.

PURPOSE: To compare complication rates of a collagen-based vascular closure device (VCD) in patients with vs. without significant peripheral artery disease (PAD). METHODS: A total of 382 patients (268 men; mean age 64.6±10.8 years) undergoing either an endovascular procedure of the lower limb (PAD group, n=132) or a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI group, n=250) via a common femoral artery access were enrolled in this prospective study if hemostasis was achieved using the collagen-based Angio-Seal. In the PCI group, significant PAD was excluded by measurement of the ankle-brachial inde

Percutaneous Femoral Arterial Closure Following Decannulation of Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Using the MANTA Vascular Closure Device.

BACKGROUND: Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is a life-saving therapy for patients with severe cardiac failure. If patients can be weaned, withdrawal and closure of the large-bore arterial access are required, which historically have been achieved through surgical closure. The MANTA vascular closure device (VCD) is a percutaneous, collagen-based plug device used following large-bore arterial access. We sought to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the MANTA VCD for percutaneous arterial closure following VA-ECMO decannulation. METHOD: A non-randomised, open-label pil

Ultrasound-Guided Femoral Hemostasis in Peripheral Angioplasty: Real-World Outcomes with Vascular Closure Devices Versus Manual Compression.

Background and Objectives: Access-site complications (ASCs) remain clinically relevant after peripheral endovascular procedures, particularly with large femoral sheaths and complex anatomy. While randomized coronary trials show non-inferiority of vascular closure devices (VCDs) versus manual compression (MC), real-world data in peripheral interventions performed under systematic ultrasound-guided access are limited. Materials and Methods: This retrospective single-center cohort included consecutive peripheral arterial revascularizations (2010-2023) performed via common femoral access under rea

Suture-based vs. pure plug-based vascular closure devices for VA-ECMO decannulation-A retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is a valuable treatment option for patients in cardiogenic shock, but complications during decannulation may worsen the overall outcome. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of suture-based to pure plug-based vascular closure devices for VA-ECMO decannulation. METHODS: In this retrospective study, the procedural outcome of 33 patients with suture-based Perclose ProGlide closure devices was compared to 38 patients with MANTA plug-based closure devices. RESULTS: Rate of technically correc

Meta-analysis of randomized trials on the efficacy of vascular closure devices after diagnostic angiography and angioplasty.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of vascular closure devices (VCDs). METHODS: This meta-analysis was performed in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews. RESULTS: The literature search yielded 31 prospective, randomized studies including 7,528 patients who were randomized to VCDs or manual/mechanical compression after diagnostic angiography and/or endovascular procedures. Most of these studies have excluded patients at high risk of puncture site complications. Meta-analysis showed similar results in the study groups in te

Active Versus Passive Anchoring Vascular Closure Devices Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Safety and Efficacy Comparative Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluate the prevalence of complications and failure rates between the most commonly used "active" anchoring vascular closure device (VCD), AngioSeal™ and the "passive" anchoring VCD, Mynx™, in all-comers undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). METHODS: A total of 4,074 patients between 2008 and 2014, representing an era when both devices were available, were included. Thirty-two percent were acute coronary syndromes (37% STEMI). VCD choice was at the operator's discretion and included AngioSeal (n = 2,910) or Mynx (1,164). Cardiogenic shock or patients receiving in

[Arterial Access Site Complications after Percutaneous Interventions with Special Regard to the Application of Vascular Closure Devices].

Due to an increase in the number of performed endovascular procedures, the number of local access site complications is rising too. Used mainly for treatment of peripheral arterial disease and coronary heart disease, endovascular procedures are gaining importance. Access site complications include bleeding, haematoma, pseudoaneurysm, arteriovenous fistula and arterial thrombosis. Aiming to reduce immobilisation, length of hospital stay, costs and access site complications, vascular closure devices (VCD) were introduced in the mid 1990s, but current trials failed to demonstrate the superiority

Increased vascular access complications in patients with renal dysfunction undergoing percutaneous coronary procedures using arteriotomy closure devices.

BACKGROUND: Arteriotomy closure device (ACD) use has increased following percutaneous transfemoral coronary procedures (PTCP). However, their safety in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is not known. Therefore, we evaluated the complication rates of ACD among patients with CKD. METHODS: Six-hundred ten consecutive patients who underwent PTCP and ACD were retrospectively studied. Patients were grouped according to their creatinine clearance (CrCl in ml/min/1.73 m2) calculated by the Cockcroft-Gault formula using the National Kidney Foundation classification system; Stage I (CrCl > or

Outcome of a Prospective Registry to Evaluate the Performance of the MANTA Vascular Closure Device in EVAR Patients.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous endovascular aortic repair (pEVAR) has become the gold standard in the treatment of aortic aneurysms. Vascular puncture site complications can have severe implications on morbidity and mortality of patients, underlining the necessity for safe and effective closure devices. The MANTA vascular closure device (VCD) has shown to be safe and effective in patients undergoing endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, most of these trials were conducted in TAVR patients, involved highly selected populations, and had a retrosp

CELT vascular closure device for larger NES arteriotomies: A single-center retrospective analysis.

Introduction/PurposeThe shift from transfemoral to transradial access in interventional cardiology has gained momentum due to fewer access site complications, earlier ambulation, and improved patient comfort. Adoption in neuroendovascular procedures has been slower due to anatomical challenges, a steeper learning curve, and reliance on transfemoral devices. Shapiro et al. reported a 4.6% total and 1.6% major complication rate with transfemoral mechanical thrombectomy (MT). While transradial MT aims to reduce such risks, small radial arteries pose concerns such as vasospasm and catheter entrapm

Combination of Skin Adhesives and Vascular Closure Device for Complete Hemostasis After Catheter Ablation.

BACKGROUND: Despite the use of vascular closure devices (VCDs) following catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) effectively shortening postprocedural immobilization time, they carry the risk of subcutaneous hemorrhage, which often requires extended bed rest, exceeding 2 h. We assessed whether combining skin adhesives (SAs) with a VCD can safely enable earlier mobilization without increasing bleeding risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: This retrospective analysis evaluated 244 patients who underwent catheter ablation for AF between April 2022 and March 2024 and achieved successful hemostasis wi

Methicillin-sensitive S taphylococcus aureus bacterial endarteritis associated with vascular closure device.

Percutaneous endovascular procedures (PEPs) are increasingly common in clinical practice. Percutaneous closure devices (PCD) ensure safe and immediate haemostasis, reducing the length of hospitalisation and improving patient comfort. Infectious complications are rare. We present the case of a 65-year-old man who was admitted to hospital because of fever and weight loss. He had a history of carotid arterial disease, having been submitted to a PEP 3 weeks before. On admission, he presented feverishly. Anaemia and elevated inflammatory parameters were detected on basic chemistry. Blood cultures i
