Development and evaluation of a telehealth videoconferenced support group for rural spouses of individuals diagnosed with atypical early-onset dementias.

Atypical and early-onset dementias can be particularly problematic for family caregivers, and support groups aimed at memory loss and Alzheimer's disease are not always helpful. Unfortunately, little has been developed specifically for caregivers of individuals with atypical dementias such as the frontotemporal dementias. Compounding the lack of access to interventions targeted specifically at caregivers of individuals with atypical and early-onset dementias are the unique needs of rural caregivers. Due to the relative infrequency of these particular dementias and the large geographical distan

How, when and why is emotional support delivered using videoconferencing by adult palliative care services successful? A realist synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Videoconferencing (also known as telehealth) is part of digitally enabled healthcare provision ('eHealth') and its use in palliative care practice is increasing. There is uncertainty and limited evidence to guide organisations in how to use this technology to provide emotional support for patients, caregivers and the bereaved. OBJECTIVES: How, why, and in which circumstances can videoconferencing be used to successfully meet the emotional support needs of adults receiving palliative care? DESIGN: Realist synthesis of literature was conducted according to RAMESES guidelines. DATA

Efficacy of videoconferencing-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy to reduce anxiety disorder severity in LGBTQ+ people: An exploratory trial protocol.

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a well-established treatment for anxiety disorders in the general population. However, the efficacy of CBT for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and otherwise non-heterosexual or non-cisgender (LGBTQ+) people with anxiety disorders is still emerging in the literature. This protocol proposes an exploratory, two-group, randomized controlled trial comparing the efficacy of CBT for anxiety disorders against a waitlist control group. METHODS: The trial will recruit 52 LGBTQ+ adults with a primary anxiety disorder diagnosis. The

Cognitive behavioral therapy-enhanced through videoconferencing for night eating syndrome, binge-eating disorder and comorbid insomnia: a Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Both night-eating syndrome and binge-eating disorder are characterized by episodes of excessive food consumption, significant distress, and functional impairment related to maladaptive eating behaviors. Both types of eating disorders are associated with poorer sleep quality. Cognitive behavioral therapy has demonstrated good outcomes for binge-eating disorder; however, it is unknown if it is effective for night-eating syndrome and comorbid insomnia. CASE PRESENTATION: The current paper presents a case report of a Dutch woman in her 40's receiving cognitive behavioral therapy-enhan

Perceived Use of Web-Based Videoconferencing for Social Connectedness Among Older Adults Living in Long-Term Care: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted how restrictions on in-person interactions within long-term care homes (LTCHs) severely compromised social connectedness among older adults and their families. Post pandemic, despite policy changes supporting greater in-person family engagement, frequent outbreaks continue to disrupt face-to-face interactions, and factors such as geography, life circumstances, and health can constrain family members' ability to make regular in-person visits. Research suggests that web-based videoconferencing technology (WVT) may be a practical solution to help olde

Videoconferencing could reduce the number of mental health patients transferred from outlying facilities to a regional mental health unit.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if the addition of a video link to the existing phone connection, enabling patients admitted for mental and behavioural disorders to be seen by a centrally located psychiatrist or mental health clinician, would change the probability of these patients being transferred to the central mental health unit. METHODS: Data analysed were patients admitted (n=1,943) to a health services regional hospital with a primary diagnosis of mental and behavioural disorders (ICD10-AM code F00-F99) between January 2002 and December 2010. The probability of being transferred was modelled

The Effect of Core Exercise Using Online Videoconferencing Platform and Offline-Based Intervention in Postpartum Woman with Diastasis Recti Abdominis.

To investigate the efficacy of exercise intervention using a real-time video conferencing platform (ZOOM) on inter-recti distance, abdominal muscle thickness, static trunk endurance, and maternal quality of life, 37 women with diastasis recti between six months and one year postpartum were randomly divided into the online (n = 19) and offline (n = 18) groups. The online group underwent 40-min trunk stabilization exercise sessions twice a week for six weeks, through a real-time video conference platform, while the offline group attended the same program in person. The inter-recti distance and m

Development of a protocol for videoconferencing-based exposure and response prevention treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The existing literature indicates that psychotherapeutic treatment, especially exposure and response prevention (ERP) is efficacious in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic adversely impacted many patients with OCD and disrupted their usual treatment. Moreover, the pandemic forced a global switch to telemental health (TMH) services to maintain the standards and continuity of care. Consequently, clinicians are increasingly using TMH-based psychotherapeutic treatments to treat OCD. However, several challenges have made it difficult for t

Use of active video games with or without videoconferencing on health outcomes in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors: a systematic review.

PurposeAdolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors experience greater functional deficits compared to non-cancer peers or older survivors with a similar diagnosis. Physical activity (PA) is a key strategy for mitigating functional decline, and motivation and peer support are critical PA facilitators in AYA cancer survivors. Active video games (AVGs) may be a "gateway" method to promote PA. Further, integrating AVGs into group videoconferencing, a medium used by AYAs to socialize, can capitalize on peer support needed for PA motivation. Thus, we examined the use of AVGs and/or videoconfer

An assessment of the efficacy of cancer genetic counselling using real-time videoconferencing technology (telemedicine) compared to face-to-face consultations.

There are few published studies regarding the use of telemedicine in counselling families with a history of cancer. In this study, cancer genetic counselling was evaluated when conducted via telemedicine and compared to face-to-face consultations. Participants were placed into a telemedicine group or a face-to-face group depending on their geographical location. Telemedicine consultations took place using real-time videoconferencing technology ISDN6 digital telephone lines. Sixteen participants were evaluated in the telemedicine compared to 21 in the face-to-face group and all participants wer

Multidisciplinary implementation of family-based treatment delivered by videoconferencing (FBT-V) for adolescent anorexia nervosa during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Family-Based Treatment (FBT)-the most widely supported treatment for pediatric eating disorders-transitioned to virtual delivery in many programs due to COVID-19. Using a blended implementation approach, we systematically examined therapist adherence to key components of FBT and fidelity to FBT by videoconferencing (FBT-V), preliminary patient outcomes, and team experiences with our FBT-V implementation approach as well as familial perceptions of FBT-V effectiveness. We examined our implementation approach across four pediatric eating disorder programs in Ontario, Canada, using mixed methods.

Optional Web-Based Videoconferencing Added to Office-Based Care for Women Receiving Psychotherapy During the Postpartum Period: Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety during the postpartum period are common, with psychotherapy often being the preferred method of treatment. However, psychological, physical, and social barriers prevent women from receiving appropriate and timely psychotherapy. The option of receiving psychotherapy through videoconferencing (VC) during the postpartum period presents an opportunity for more accessible and flexible care. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of optional VC added to usual office-based psychotherapy, with a p

Applying online parental guided self-help family-based treatment for adolescent anorexia nervosa: A comparison to family-based treatment delivered by videoconferencing.

Guided self-help has become an important treatment option in the field of eating disorders as access to in person evidence-based treatments is limited. Given the scant amount of literature published on guided self-help for the treatment of eating disorders in the child and adolescent population, our aim was to describe online GSH-FBT sessions in detail as conducted as part of a larger feasibility study, examining quotations from therapists that illustrate the GSH-FBT stance and also describing how online GSH-FBT differs from FBT delivered by videoconferencing within a descriptive case report.

Feasibility of a multidisciplinary group videoconferencing approach for chronic low back pain: a randomized, open-label, controlled, pilot clinical trial (EN-FORMA).

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a common condition that becomes even more prevalent with aging. A non-pharmacological multidisciplinary approach for chronic non-specific low back pain (CNSLBP) has been recommended, but integrating different healthcare professionals is challenging. A multidisciplinary group videoconferencing approach (MGVA) can be helpful. Our aim was to provide evidence on MGVA's feasibility in managing CNSLBP and its impact on clinical practice. METHODS: We conducted an open-label, randomized, controlled, parallel-group pilot clinical trial with CNSLBP patients irresponsive to

[Intercontinental Multidisciplinary Oncology Videoconferencing between the South Pacific and the French mainland: Reasons for medical evacuation after more than 2000 cases of cancers discussed].

INTRODUCTION: Disparities in care between the French mainland and overseas territories are responsible for unequal access to innovative and specialized care, leading to an increased death risk for cancer patients. Since 2019, a multidisciplinary consultation meeting (RCP Pacifique) by videoconference between French Polynesia (Pf), New Caledonia (NC) and mainland France, facilitates access to medical expertise and limits the use of medical evacuations (EVASAN). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all files discussed in the RCP Pacifique between 2019 and 2024 to report demographic data, reason
