Voice Symptoms, Perceived Voice Control, and Common Mental Disorders in Elementary School Teachers.

INTRODUCTION: Evaluating the relationship among teachers' voice symptoms, perceived voice control, and common mental disorders (CMDs) might contribute to the understanding of the relationship between vocal wear and the teacher well-being. The understanding of this relationship may also help in taking more informed clinical decisions in voice rehabilitation when considering possible perceived voice control difficulties and the need to develop voice self-control strategies. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the voice symptoms, perceived voice control, and CMDs in public elementa

Quantitative evaluation of the voice range profile in patients with voice disorder.

In 1953, Calvet first displayed the fundamental frequency (pitch) and sound pressure level (intensity) of a voice on a two-dimensional plane and created a voice range profile. This profile has been used to evaluate clinically various vocal disorders, although such evaluations to date have been subjective without quantitative assessment. In the present study, a quantitative system was developed to evaluate the voice range profile utilizing a personal computer. The area of the voice range profile was defined as the voice volume. This volume was analyzed in 137 males and 175 females who were trea

Differentiability of voice disorders through explainable AI.

The voice can be affected by various types of pathology. The phoniatric medical examination is the acoustic analysis, which evaluates the characteristic parameters extracted from the vocal signal. Computer-assisted decision-making systems can help specialists to detect vocal pathologies using only the patient's voice. In this study, transfer learning techniques are used to perform the acoustic analysis. Fine-tuned OpenL3 then predicts whether or not the signals contain a pathology by classifying them under 8 different pathologies. A publicly available dataset is used with the categories Hyperk

Wavelet adaptation for automatic voice disorders sorting.

Early diagnosis of voice disorders and abnormalities by means of digital speech processing is a subject of interest for many researchers. Various methods are introduced in the literature, some of which are able to extensively discriminate pathological voices from normal ones. Voice disorders sorting, on the other hand, has received less attention due to the complexity of the problem. Although, previous publications show satisfactory results in classifying one type of disordered voice from normal cases, or two different types of abnormalities from each other, no comprehensive approach for autom

Voice disorders in children with classic galactosemia.

Children with classic galactosemia are at risk for motor speech disorders resulting from disruptions in motor planning and programming (childhood apraxia of speech or CAS) or motor execution (dysarthria). In the present study of 33 children with classic galactosemia, 21% were diagnosed with CAS, 3% with ataxic dysarthria, and 3% with mixed CAS-dysarthria. Voice disorders due to laryngeal insufficiency were common in children with dysarthria and co-occurred with CAS. Most (58%) of the children with classic galactosemia had decreased respiratory-phonatory support for speech, and 33% had disturbe
