A 46-year-old woman noticed blurred vision in her right eye two weeks after receiving the fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and visited a local eye clinic. Then, the patient was referred to our hospital to investigate the cause of decreased vision in the right eye. At the initial visit to our hospital, the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the right eye was 0.7 in decimal units and 1.5 in the left eye, respectively. Intraocular pressure was 17 mmHg in both eyes. Abnormal findings were observed only in the right eye; the left eye was completely normal. Therefore, all abnormal findings desc

Background/Objectives: To investigate the role of multimodal imaging, including ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence (UWFAF), in diagnosing and monitoring syphilitic chorioretinitis, focusing on the detection of placoid appearance and white dots/spots. We aim to classify syphilitic chorioretinitis as a white dot syndrome, given evident features in the context of recent case reports and previously unavailable multimodal imaging. Methods: This single-institution study was conducted as a consecutive, observational case series. Five eyes from three patients were diagnosed with syphilitic chorio

Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a rare inflammatory eye condition. We report an atypical case of MEWDS in a man in his 30s who presented with blurred vision (visual acuity 6/9), floaters and photopsia in his left eye. Funduscopy examination showed mild peripheral nasal vascular sheathing with subtle grey-white dots highlighted on fundus autofluorescence. As far as the authors are aware, this is the first case presentation whereby areas affected by MEWDS started in the peripheral retina and migrated centrally. Fluorescein angiography showed hyperfluorescent areas in wreath-lik

PURPOSE: Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a self-limiting disease in which reduced visual acuity and retinal changes recover without treatment. It also shows visual field defects including an enlarged blind spot of Mariotte. However the final outcome of the field change has rarely been documented. We therefore retrospectively studied the visual field change in eyes with MEWDS by reviewing the multiple results of automated static perimetry recorded in the clinical course of the disease.
SUBJECTS: We reviewed the clinical course of five eyes with MEWDS using the multiple record

This report describes 3 cases of multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) which presented to the Singapore National Eye Centre over a 3-year period. MEWDS is an usual condition with distinct clinical features and typical findings on fundal fluorescein angiography. As the retinal lesions are transient, timing of examination is crucial for an accurate diagnosis. Usually only one eye is involved and recurrences are uncommon. Occasionally, signs of optic nerve disease may be the predominant feature. Although the aetiology remains unknown and no active treatment is required, the visual progno

PURPOSE: To report a uveomeningeal syndrome with bilateral optic disc edema and a MEWDS-like presentation.
OBSERVATIONS: A 17-year-old female experienced daily fevers for 3 days (ranging from 101.4 F to 102 F), then received the first dose of the Pfizer SARS-CoV-2 vaccine nearly three weeks later. Within two days she experienced severe headaches with severity scale of 8/10. Retinal imaging at the time showed optic disc edema in both eyes (OU) and multifocal well-circumscribed chorioretinal white lesions in the periphery OU. Neuroimaging and routine infectious and inflammatory laboratory testi

Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a benign posterior uveitis involving the outer retina-choriocapillaris complex. The clinical picture, since its first description in 1984, is well-established. Classified at the benign end of the choriocapillaritis spectrum, including, among others, idiopathic multifocal choroiditis, serpiginous choroiditis, and acute posterior multifocal pigment epitheliopathy, a challenge to this classical choriocapillaritis classification of the disease was attempted, attributing the primary lesion process to a photoreceptoritis. The aim of this perspective

BACKGROUND: To report a case of Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrome (MEWDS) one month after a COVID-19 infection in a female patient at an age unusual for the occurrence of this disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year-old Caucasian female reported the presence of floaters, photopsia, and enlarging vision loss in her left eye following the COVID-19 infection. Clinical and multimodal imaging was consistent with the MEWDS diagnosis. Fluorescein angiography examination revealed characteristic hyperfluorescent spots around the fovea in a wreath-like pattern. An extensive lab workup to rule out ot

Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a rare, self-limiting retinal inflammatory disorder typically affecting young, healthy women and presenting unilaterally. Bilateral presentations are exceedingly rare and often asymmetrical. We report a unique case of bilateral MEWDS with symmetric retinal involvement and periphlebitis in an early adolescent patient. Multimodal imaging confirmed the diagnosis, and systemic workup excluded other inflammatory and infectious causes. The patient was observed without treatment and recovered fully. This report highlights the diagnostic importance of

BACKGROUND: Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome is a rare posterior uveitis that presents with transient white dots in the retina, which may not always be visible at the time of diagnosis. The disease can mimic atypical optic neuritis owing to overlapping symptoms such as central visual field defect, relative afferent pupillary defect, and optic disc swelling. Here, we report a case of multiple evanescent white dot syndrome masquerading as atypical optic neuritis in a young female patient.
