A 45-year-old female patient with a neurofibroma of the hypopharynx is reported. She had complained of swallowing discomfort for 3 months. Indirect laryngoscopy showed an oval tumor with a smooth surface in the posterior wall of the hypopharynx. Xeroradiography was effective for defining the tumor. Removal of the tumor was performed by an infrahyoid horizontal pharyngotomy under general anesthesia. The tumor had an indistinct capsule. The nerve from which the tumor originated was not clear. A case of lateral hypopharyngeal diverticula is reported. This type of diverticula is comparatively rare. The diagnosis can be made clinically and confirmed by x-ray examination and hypopharyngoscopy. A pharyngocoele is of differential importance as this may be present in many patients during Valsalva, but does not indicate treatment. The reported case is most probably caused by a development defect in the third branchial cleft.

Four cases of scalp paraffinoma were seen in our clinics within the past year. This unusual condition results from intradermal injection of substances containing paraffin. Injuries involving foreign bodies in the hand are common. Index of suspicion should be high in any hand injury, particularly with a proper history. The sonograms of 42 patients scanned before and after radical prostatectomy were reviewed, giving specific attention to echogenic foci. All patients had clinical stage A or B adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Comparison of the scans with xeroradiographic and histopathologic studies showed all echogenic foci, with or without acoustic shadowing, to represent prostatic calcifications. Calcifications were located in the central portion of the gland exclusively, either immediately adjacent to the urethra or at the margins of the "internal gland", separate from the peripheral location of small tumors.

Bilateral primary breast cancers occur commonly enough to justify adoption of special pre- and post-initial therapy screening. A 13.2% incidence of bilateral breast carcinoma has been found in the breast cancer patients who presented to the Fox Chase Cancer Center with an operatively manageable primary in an arbitrarily defined 30-month period and who have been followed for at least 20 months thereafter. A case of CREST syndrome presenting with marked diffuse calcinosis and prevailing joint involvement is presented by the authors. Diffractometry revealed the presence of calcified hydroxy-apatite crystals within subcutaneous nodules. Scleroderma-like microcirculatory changes with blood flow alterations typical of Raynaud's syndrome were present on capillaroscopy. The authors feel the case to be of interest not only in view of the rare occurrence of the condition but also of the particular extent and severity of the signs and symptoms presented by this patient.

The authors have demonstrated subcutaneous calcification which is characteristic for pseudo-pseudo-hypoparathyroidism (pph) and which is best shown by xero-radiography. If the presence of pph is suspected, or if it needs to be distinguished from some other condition, it is valuable to obtain xerograms of the soft tissues of the extremities. In pph the subcutaneous calcification is in all probability derived from the skeleton.
