Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common upper gastrointestinal disorder, characterized by bothersome epigastric pain or burning, fullness after meals or early satiety. The precise pathophysiology remains incompletely understood but may include the role of disordered gut-brain communication leading to disturbances in gastro-duodenal physiological functioning. Even if there are several pharmacological treatment options, it is a chronic and relapsing disorder with persistent symptoms that makes its management difficult. Yoga is a fast-spreading complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) specialty

BACKGROUND: Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread pain, sleep disturbance, negative affect, and stress and is notably difficult to treat. Individuals with FM have lower physical activity and endorse fears that exercise may worsen pain. Gentle daily yoga practice may allow a gradual increase in activity and positively impact many of these FM symptoms. This qualitative study investigated the impact of participation in a pilot trial of group and daily individual home yoga intervention on women with FM.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen individuals participated in telephone interviews aft

UNLABELLED: Yoga is one of the spiritual practices derived from the orthodox school of Hindu philosophy. The practices were codified by Patanjali under the title of Ashtanga Yoga. Although Yoga was traditionally seen as a practice meant for achieving self-realization, in recent years there has been significant attention given to the effects of yoga practices on physical and mental health. Yoga as a therapy has proven to be effective as a sole or additional intervention in several psychiatric disorders.
CONCLUSIONS: The literature suggests that yoga can lead to significant symptomatic improvem

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the effects of yoga on the recovery of the cardiac autonomic nervous system and immunosuppression after intense exercise.
METHODS: Seven healthy adult men were enrolled in two trials: rest for 30 min in a seated position (CON) and yoga for 30 min (YOG) after a treadmill running for 60 min at 75% V˙ O2max in a randomized crossover design. Natural killer (NK) cell activity, salivary secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA), cortisol, testosterone, and indicators related to heart rate variability, mood states, and muscle soreness were measured before exercise (Pre

INTRODUCTION: The rapid increase in cancer survivors in the United States (US) highlights the importance of survivors' long-term care needs and symptom management. Given evidence that yoga supports cancer related symptoms, our aim was to develop and implement a community yoga program available for cancer survivors, family members, and staff involved in cancer care at a public comprehensive cancer center in the US. Given the wide age range and potential side effects from cancer treatment, we adapted the yoga program to meet the needs of cancer survivors.
METHODS: Beginning in May 2017, we offe

IMPORTANCE: There are limited data to determine the change in severity, efficacy, and mechanism of action of yoga-Pilates in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
OBJECTIVES: The primary objective was to evaluate the effect of an 8-week web-based home yoga-Pilates exercise program on SUI severity and to evaluate the potential mechanism of action through ultrasound examination of the urethral rhabdosphincter cross-sectional area.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a prospective cohort study of women with SUI. Participants underwent visits pre- and post-intervention, completed quality of lif

BACKGROUND: Non-specific low back pain is a common, potentially disabling condition usually treated with self-care and non-prescription medication. For chronic low back pain, current guidelines recommend exercise therapy. Yoga is a mind-body exercise sometimes used for non-specific low back pain.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the benefits and harms of yoga for treating chronic non-specific low back pain in adults compared to sham yoga, no specific treatment, a minimal intervention (e.g. education), or another active treatment, focusing on pain, function, quality of life, and adverse events.

Chronic pain is a multidimensional syndrome that frequently co-occurs with psychiatric disorders. Long-term management remains inadequate, and clinical guidelines increasingly recommend nonpharmacologic, multimodal approaches. This narrative review provides a rationale for combining intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) with yoga to offer a synergistic treatment strategy for chronic pain. Literature was identified through targeted PubMed searches supplemented by manual review of reference lists. iTBS is a time-efficient transcranial magnetic stimulation protocol that increases cortical e

The aim of this study was to assess the intensity of hatha yoga training for older adults in alignment with international physical activity recommendations. The sample included 26 participants (one male), aged 70 ± 5.7 years, with a mean BMI of 25.3 ± 3.2, recruited from a University of the Third Age. Heart rate (HR) was measured during a yoga session using the Polar Vantage V2 multisport GPS watch and the Polar H10 chest strap sensor. Results indicated that the mean HR during the most intensive phase of yoga reached 60% of participants' HRmax and 31% of the heart rate reserve (HRR). On averag

Yoga has been put to test in clinical medicine to build evidence. There has been a steep rise in yoga research through 2010, threefold in the next decade. Despite challenges, clinicians have explored yoga intervention in several disorders. The available data have been examined using meta-analysis when there are more studies. Psychiatric disorders treated with yoga have attracted more research. Some examples include depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), somatoform pain, addiction, mild cognitive impairment, and elderly and childhood disorders.
