In this study, the naturally available Ziziphus Mauritiana was used as a bioresource for the preparation of bifunctional nitrogen doped carbon dots (N-CDs). The doping of nitrogen into the graphitic carbon skeleton and the in-situ formation of N-CDs were systematically identified by the various structural and morphological studies. The green fluorescent N-CDs were used as active catalysts for the removal of Safranin-O dye and achieved 79 % removal efficiency. Furthermore, the prepared N-CDs were used to evaluate antibacterial activity with four different bacterial species, such as Shigella fle

Semen Ziziphus jujube (SZJ) has been widely consumed because it is recognized as edible in China to treat insomnia disorders. However, the underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets remain obscure. SZJ-I and SZJ-II with a saponin content of 52.10% and 75.20%, respectively, were extracted from SZJ. LC-MS analysis presented quite different chemical profiles of SZJ-I and SZJ-II. Mice with p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA)-induced insomnia were used to comparatively and systematically test the sedative-hypnotic activities of SZJ-I and SZJ-II. In vivo behavioral tests revealed that SZJ-I an

Sour jujube (Ziziphus jujuba var. spinosa) is a valuable medicinal and edible fruit owing to its health-promoting properties. Methoxylated flavonoids enhance their value by improving stability and bioavailability. However, the cellular basis of their biosynthesis remains unclear. We constructed a single-nucleus transcriptomic atlas of sour jujube fruit. Parenchyma cells were identified as the primary sites for flavonoid biosynthesis and their O-methylation, characterized by high expression of phenylpropanoid pathway genes and O-methyltransferases (OMTs). Among the 48 identified OMTs, four (ZjO
