Medication for Opioid Use Disorder in recovery housing: A statewide secret shopper audit of Florida Certified Recovery Residences.

BACKGROUND: Florida is facing a public health crisis involving opioid use disorder (OUD). One critical recovery support service is recovery housing, which has historically demonstrated inconsistent acceptance of patients taking Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). Effective January 1, 2025, Florida Statute §397.487(13) restricts Certified Recovery Residences (CRRs) from denying housing to individuals solely based on receiving MOUD. This secret shopper audit evaluated CRR compliance with the new statute. METHODS: Simulated patient callers presented as individuals who had been prescribed

Formal and informal digital health in Tanzania: healthcare workforce, regulatory and trust implications of e-patients and virtual care and the development of the TRUST framework.

Digital health and virtual care are increasingly reshaping how healthcare is organized, delivered, and experienced. In Tanzania, digital transformation is evident in national commitments to digital health governance, health information exchange, hospital information systems, digital referral and emergency transportation, telemedicine, and emerging diagnostic applications supported by artificial intelligence. At the same time, patients are increasingly using social media, mobile platforms, and other digital channels to seek health information, consultations, diagnoses, and medicines, creating n

Ultrasound-Guided Mini Fluid Challenge via Velocity-Time Integral to Assess Fluid Responsiveness in Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Prospective Quasi-Experimental Feasibility Study.

Background: Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) remains a leading cause of emergency department (ED) admission and carries a mortality of 5-10%. Static hemodynamic parameters perform poorly as predictors of fluid responsiveness, exposing patients either to under-resuscitation or to the harms of fluid overload. The mini fluid challenge (MFC), in which a 100 mL bolus is used to elicit a measurable change in the left ventricular outflow tract velocity-time integral (ΔVTI), is a validated dynamic test in intensive care but has not been evaluated in undifferentiated ED haemorrhagic shock.

Intangible cultural heritage as school-based psychosocial support for left-behind adolescents in rural China: a framework and preliminary pilot study.

Rural left-behind adolescents in China experience elevated risks of loneliness, negative affect, weakened belonging, and limited access to acceptable psychosocial support. Conventional school counselling models often depend on self-referral, verbal disclosure, and identification with a help-seeking role, conditions that may not fit the social and cultural context of many rural students. This manuscript develops and preliminarily evaluates a culturally grounded schoolbased psychosocial support programme using locally rooted intangible cultural heritage (ICH) activities, including paper cutting,

Beyond virality: evaluating evidence-based content delivery in social media-based pediatric orthodontic education.

BACKGROUND: Malocclusion, affecting over 260 million Chinese children, demands early orthodontic intervention to address both physiological and psychosocial impacts. While social media platforms have become primary sources of health guidance for parents, their algorithm-driven ecosystems often prioritize engagement over scientific rigor. Content creators, including unqualified influencers, frequently disseminate unverified claims about treatment timing, methods, and outcomes. Such misinformation may exacerbate parental anxiety, or promote non-evidence-based interventions. This study evaluates

Quantifying the prevalence and predictors of burnout in emergency medical services personnel.

INTRODUCTION: Recently, burnout has amassed considerable attention because of deleterious effects on workers and the work environment. Frequently, EMS clinicians find themselves prone to experiencing burnout, yet little is known about etiologies in this population. OBJECTIVE: To estimate prevalence and predictors of burnout in EMS clinicians. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional survey study of nine EMS agencies from North Carolina selected based on geography and population. Emergency medical technicians (EMTs), advanced EMTs, and paramedics were included. Emergency medical responders and air

Social media as a new source of medical information and support: analysis of scoliosis-specific information.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: It has never been easier for patients to obtain information about and to connect with others with a given health issue. Frequently, patients turn to social media. There, more information and emotional support from individuals with similar experiences should empower patients, contributing to a better functional and overall outcome. Unfortunately, social media often contains biased reports and misinformation. PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the footprint of AIS (adolescent idiopathic scoliosis) on the top four social media platforms. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional analys

How Internet Contracts Impact Research: Content Analysis of Terms of Service on Consumer Product Websites.

BACKGROUND: Companies use brand websites as a promotional tool to engage consumers on the web, which can increase product use. Given that some products are harmful to the health of consumers, it is important for marketing associated with these products to be subject to public health surveillance. However, terms of service (TOS) governing the use of brand website content may impede such important research. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to explore the TOS for brand websites with public health significance to assess possible legal and ethical challenges for conducting research on consumer

Effects of the Australian National Hand Hygiene Initiative after 8 years on infection control practices, health-care worker education, and clinical outcomes: a longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: The National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) is a standardised culture-change programme based on the WHO My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene approach to improve hand hygiene compliance among Australian health-care workers and reduce the risk of health-care-associated infections. We analysed its effectiveness. METHODS: In this longitudinal study, we assessed outcomes of the NHHI for the 8 years after implementation (between Jan 1, 2009, and June 30, 2017), including hospital participation, hand hygiene compliance (measured as the proportion of observed Moments) three times per year, educa

Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein-A (PAPP-A) in Ewing Sarcoma: Role in Tumor Growth and Immune Evasion.

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma (EWS) manifests one of the lowest somatic mutation rates of any cancer, leading to a scarcity of druggable mutations and neoantigens. Immunotherapeutics targeting differentially expressed cell surface antigens could provide therapeutic benefit for such tumors. Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) is a cell membrane-associated proteinase produced by the placenta that promotes fetal growth by inducing insulinlike growth factor (IGF) signaling. METHODS: By comparing RNA expression of cell surface proteins in EWS (n = 120) versus normal tissues (n = 42), we com
