Detection of periapical lesions in teeth with fixed prostheses using segmentation models and analyzing crown-lesion relationships.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Periapical lesions in teeth with fixed prostheses often remain undiagnosed in routine panoramic radiographic evaluations, leading to delayed treatment and potential tooth loss. The complex anatomy of prosthetic restorations can mask early periapical pathology, and manual detection is time-consuming and subject to interobserver variability. A standardized automated system is not currently available for the simultaneous detection of periapical lesions and the analysis of their relationship with fixed prostheses in panoramic radiographs. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study w

AI-Augmented Teach-Back in Dentistry: From Patient Education to Verified Clinical Understanding.

Oral diseases remain among the most prevalent chronic conditions worldwide, yet their prevention and long-term management depend heavily on patient understanding of self-care, maintenance protocols, and procedural risks. Existing educational programs have not solved this problem because most individuals do not understand dental health, and communication with patients remains poor, which results in poor treatment outcomes. The teach-back method functions as an evidence-based communication tool that helps staff members confirm that patients have grasped essential information, but dental practiti

Primary and secondary stability in implants placed in low-density bone using conventional vs. osseodensification technique: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: One of the most important clinical challenges in implant dentistry is achieving stability in low-density bone. Identifying a method that maximizes implant stability in bones of low quantity and quality is crucial. Osseodensification (OD) has been suggested as an alternative to conventional drilling (CD) to improve implant stability. This study compared the primary and secondary stability of two commonly used techniques for implant placement in low-density bone: CD and OD. METHODS: Search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Google Scholar up to January 2024

Capnography Should Be Mandatory Monitoring For Moderate Sedation.

Background There has been increasing concern by the American Dental Association, state dental boards, regional legislators, and specialty groups about the current state of dental anesthesia. Specific interest has surrounded methods to improve patient safety during parental sedation and anesthesia. Many times in the history of dental anesthesia, monitoring advances begin in the hospital for general anesthesia, then downscale, become smaller, and find utility in outpatient anesthesia. Monitoring advances ultimately have been shown to improve patient safety and are subsequently universally adopte

Effect of zoledronate acid treatment on osseointegration and fixation of implants in autologous iliac bone grafts in ovariectomized rabbits.

One main problem associated with alveolar bone augmentation in implant dentistry is resorption of grafted bone, which may be further compromised by systemic skeletal disorders such as osteoporosis. Zoledronate acid (ZOL) is the most potent bisphosphonate to treat osteoporosis and therefore it is hypothesized to be able to invert the negative effect of osteoporosis on osseointegration and fixation of dental implants in autologous bone grafts. In this study, 56 rabbits received bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) (40 rabbits) or sham operation (16 rabbits). Three months later, 8 animals from each group
