BACKGROUND: Sebaceous carcinoma (SbCC) is a rare malignancy that often mimics benign conditions. Lymphatic involvement, large T3 tumors herald a dismal survival for patients. We present our series of 13 cases of locally advanced SbCC of the eyelid treated at a surgical oncology unit and describe the clinical profile, patterns of nodal spread and recurrence pattern in this subset of SbCC.

Missile injuries of the anterior skull base usually occur during war or war-like situations. These injuries may be isolated or associated with multiple traumatic injuries. We report 23 such cases managed during military conflicts and peacekeeping operations. All were adult males. Four of these patients sustained bullet injuries; the rest were injured from shrapnel. Well-recognized risk factors for zygomycosis include diabetic ketoacidosis, immunocompromise, and deferoxamine therapy for iron or aluminum overload, usually in patients undergoing kidney dialysis. We report a case of fatal nasal-orbital-cerebral zygomycosis in an 82-year-old man with known myelodysplasia and well-controlled diabetes. He was not receiving deferoxamine. Despite radical surgery and amphotericin B therapy, he died; primary hemochromatosis with gross iron overload was found post mortem. BACKGROUND: Purpureocillium lilacinum eye infections (previously called Paecilomyces lilacinus) make up a significant percentage of the recorded cases of infection by this fungus, and is considered as an emerging pathogen.
AIMS: To report a case of ocular mycosis in a patient aged 70, with a double corneal transplantation in the right eye, and exhibiting a poor response to antifungal and surgical treatment.
METHODS: Corneal ring and ocular tissues obtained by surgical procedures were cultured in common mycological media. Molecular identification of the isolated fungus was obtained.

BACKGROUND: Orbital exenteration is a rare, but disfiguring procedure reserved for the treatment of locally invasive malignancy or potentially life threatening orbital neoplasms, when less destructive techniques are inadequate. The mummy of King Amenhotep I (18th Dynasty c.1525-1504 BC) was reburied by the 21st Dynasty priests at Deir el-Bahari Royal Cache. In 1881 the mummy was found fully wrapped and was one of few royal mummies that have not been unwrapped in modern times. The retinoblastoma is one of the most common tumors of the eye diagnosed in childhood. The treatment for patients with retinoblastoma includes surgical removal of the lesion along with adjunctive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
