Capping the inflamed pulp under different clinical conditions.

BACKGROUND: A great deal of controversy exists regarding the reliability of capping the inflamed pulp. In particular, the use of calcium hydroxide as a capping agent has come into question. In this study, hard tissue barrier formation after inflamed pulps were capped directly or after partial pulpotomy was compared with calcium hydroxide or bonded resin and with no additional seal or an IRM surface seal. Seventy teeth in five dogs were used. Ten untreated teeth were used as negative controls. In 60 teeth, pulpal inflammation was induced by preparing a cavity close to the pulp and sealing a cot

The in vitro and in vivo influence of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin components on dental pulp tissues.

The purpose of this study was to qualitate the penetration of the major components of 4-META/MMA-TBB adhesive resin (4-META resin) and to characterize their influence on the in vitro and in vivo wound healing of dental pulp tissues. Fresh 4-META resin was applied to rabbit mesentery; its components penetrated the mesentery to form three of layers, depending on the amounts of monomer components in the tissue. The superficial layer was a soft-tissue hybrid layer (STHL), the intermediate layer contained small particles of polymerized 4-META resin, while the deepest layer contained unpolymerized m

Mechanical responses to orthodontic loading: a 3-dimensional finite element multi-tooth model.

INTRODUCTION: The initial mechanical response to orthodontic loading comprises biologic reactions that remain unclear, despite their clinical significance. We used a 3-dimensional finite element analysis to investigate the stress-strain responses of teeth to orthodontic loading. METHODS: The model was derived from computed tomography data, with adequate boundary conditions and tissue characterization, with orthodontic hardware to provide a more accurate reflection of events during orthodontic therapy. This study also incorporated the adjacent dentition. Two cases were analyzed: a single-tooth

Phenotypic changes in dentition of Runx2 homozygote-null mutant mice.

Genetic and molecular studies in humans and mice indicate that Runx2 (Cbfa1) is a critical transcriptional regulator of bone and tooth formation. Heterozygous mutations in Runx2 cause cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD), an inherited disorder in humans and mice characterized by skeletal defects, supernumerary teeth, and delayed eruption. Mice lacking the Runx2 gene die at birth and lack bone and tooth development. Our extended phenotypic studies of Runx2 mutants showed that developing teeth fail to advance beyond the bud stage and that mandibular molar organs were more severely affected than maxilla

Periodontal response to two intracanal medicaments in replanted monkey incisors.

Intracanal medicaments are recommended for use in replanted teeth to inhibit inflammatory root resorption. This study compared the effect of calcium hydroxide (Pulpdent) and a corticosteroid-antibiotic paste (Ledermix) on periodontal healing and root resorption following replantation. Incisors of eight Macaca fascicularis monkeys were extracted, stored dry for 15 min and replanted. After 11 days, root canals in two adjacent maxillary incisors were treated with one medicament and contralateral incisors with the other medicament, or left as untreated controls. Animals were sacrificed 8 weeks lat
