Neuropsychiatric symptoms in the acute thyrotoxic phase of Graves' disease suggest involvement of brain processes. Short-echo-time proton MRS was used to measure the cerebral metabolite profile in newly diagnosed and untreated Graves' disease. Sixteen patients with Graves' disease and 18 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were studied. The patients had significantly reduced total choline and myo-inositol in the acute phase of Graves' thyrotoxicosis compared with the healthy volunteers.

PURPOSE: In a retrospective analysis the diagnostic value of two scintigraphic methods was compared with each other.
METHOD: 104 patients with acute or intermittent gastrointestinal haemorrhage were examined with 121 scintigraphic studies. We compared scintigraphic results with surgical findings, endoscopic results or final clinical diagnosis. We used two scintigraphic methods, colloid scintigraphy and in vivo/vitro red blood cell scintigraphy.

To determine the presence, prevalence, and clinical importance of Tc-99 pertechnetate uterine uptake, this retrospective analysis of 71 Meckel's scans was undertaken. Specifically, each study was evaluated for the presence of a focal accumulation of radiotracer cephalad to the bladder. Patients received an intravenous dose of 150 microCi/kg of Tc-99 pertechnetate. Submandibular gland function following transoral sialolithectomy was examined by 99mTc-pertechnetate sialo-scintigraphy in 10 cases. An intraindividual comparison between the function of the treated gland and that of the contralateral normal gland was made using a time-activity curve. Although glandular recovery was not affected by the duration of symptoms or the existence of the symptom at mealtimes, it was inversely proportional to the size of the calculus. Furthermore, the prognosis was more favorable in patients when the anatomically normal orifice of the submandibular duct was preserved.

This is an account of 2 groups of 10 patients each who received Starr Edwards ball valves in either the mitral (M) or aortic (A) position on average 14.7 +/- 3 or 14.9 +/- 2.4 years ago, respectively. Three different 99Tcm-human serum albumin (HSA) preparations were simultaneously studied by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gamma camera techniques in rats. Tc-pertechnetate scintigraphy was performed in 81 infants and children, clinically suspected to have Meckel's diverticulum with ectopic gastric mucosa.
