OBJECTIVES: Silica-glass fiber reinforced polymers can be used for many kinds of dental applications. The fiber reinforcement enhances the mechanical properties of the polymers, and they have good esthetic attributes. There is good initial bonding of glass fibers to polymers via an interface made from silane coupling agents. BACKGROUND: Silicone keratopathy frequently develops as a complication of silicone oil tamponade in the management of severe trauma in eyes with partial or complete aniridia. One hundred eighty low-friction arthroplasties of the hip in 164 patients in first-time revision surgery were operated between 1973 and 1985. This paper reports a retrospective study of acute femoral neck fractures in 123 patients treated by primary prosthetic replacement. The average age in our patient population was 80-5 years. A Christiansen trunnion-bearing hip prosthesis (Christiansen, 1969 and 1974) was used in all patients except one. The prosthesis was cemented to the femoral shaft.
