Food Should not be Forgotten: Impacts of Combined Cash Transfer Receipt and Food Security on Child Education and Cognition in South Africa and Malawi.

Social protection can take many forms. Both cash transfers and food security may have important contributions to child cognitive development. This study examines the potential impact of combinations of cash transfers and food security status on child cognitive development and educational outcomes. Cross-sectional data for 796 HIV-affected children in the Child Community Care study were utilised for this analysis. Children and caregivers completed interview schedules comprised of standardised items on socio-demographics, household data, cash grant receipt and food security status, school achiev

The emotion dysregulation inventory: Psychometric properties and item response theory calibration in an autism spectrum disorder sample.

UNLABELLED: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often present with prominent emotion dysregulation that requires treatment but can be difficult to measure. The Emotion Dysregulation Inventory (EDI) was created using methods developed by the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS® ) to capture observable indicators of poor emotion regulation. Caregivers of 1,755 youth with ASD completed 66 candidate EDI items, and the final 30 items were selected based on classical test theory and item response theory (IRT) analyses. The analyses identified two factors: (a)

Caregiver-reported outcomes with real-world use of cannabidiol in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome from the BECOME survey.

PURPOSE: Plant-derived highly purified cannabidiol (CBD) reduced the frequency of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) and Dravet syndrome (DS) and improved the overall condition of patients in placebo-controlled phase 3 clinical trials. Anecdotal reports also suggest a positive effect on nonseizure outcomes. In this study, we aimed to identify, through a caregiver survey which nonseizure outcomes were most likely to change in these patients. METHODS: The BEhavior, COgnition, and More with Epidiolex® (BECOME) was a 20-minute, cross-sectional, online survey that was developed

Acoustic Features for Identifying Suicide Risk in Crisis Hotline Callers: Machine Learning Approach.

BACKGROUND: Crisis hotlines serve as a crucial avenue for the early identification of suicide risk, which is of paramount importance for suicide prevention and intervention. However, assessing the risk of callers in the crisis hotline context is constrained by factors such as lack of nonverbal communication cues, anonymity, time limits, and single-occasion intervention. Therefore, it is necessary to develop approaches, including acoustic features, for identifying the suicide risk among hotline callers early and quickly. Given the complicated features of sound, adopting artificial intelligence

Toward A Whole-Brain Interface Enabled by High-Resolution Surface Electrophysiology.

The goal of building a whole-brain interface-capable of generating a real-time digital representation of the state of the entire central nervous system-has long been framed as a hardware challenge of recording simultaneously from ever-larger numbers of microelectrodes. Advances in high-resolution neural interfaces now enable electrophysiologic interaction with the human nervous system at spatial and temporal resolutions previously unattainable without disrupting tissue architecture or physiology. These capabilities create new opportunities for mechanistic neuroscience, neuroprosthetics, and pr

Clinicians' Attitudes and Perceptions on the Adoption of AI in Mental Health Care: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: AI is increasingly being integrated into health care workflows, with growing interest in AI systems for documentation, screening, triage, monitoring, and decision support. Mental health care is particularly complex for AI implementation as clinical care largely depends on therapeutic relationships, contextual factors, empathic communication, and interpretation of subtle nonverbal cues. Although AI may offer opportunities to improve efficiency and access to care, its adoption is likely to depend on clinicians' trust, ethical acceptability, safety, confidentiality, and clarity around
