Deep Convolutional Neural Network With Adversarial Training for Denoising Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Images.

Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a quasi-three-dimensional imaging modality that can reduce false negatives and false positives in mass lesion detection caused by overlapping breast tissue in conventional two-dimensional (2D) mammography. The patient dose of a DBT scan is similar to that of a single 2D mammogram, while acquisition of each projection view adds detector readout noise. The noise is propagated to the reconstructed DBT volume, possibly obscuring subtle signs of breast cancer such as microcalcifications (MCs). This study developed a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) fram

Deep learning-based low-dose CT for adaptive radiotherapy of abdominal and pelvic tumors.

The shape and position of abdominal and pelvic organs change greatly during radiotherapy, so image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is urgently needed. The world's first integrated CT-linac platform, equipped with fan beam CT (FBCT), can provide a diagnostic-quality FBCT for achieve adaptive radiotherapy (ART). However, CT scans will bring the risk of excessive scanning radiation dose. Reducing the tube current of the FBCT system can reduce the scanning dose, but it will lead to serious noise and artifacts in the reconstructed images. In this study, we proposed a deep learning method, Content-N

Virtual immunohistochemistry for ER and PR prediction in breast cancer histopathology: a two-stage conditional generative framework.

BACKGROUND: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) remains the gold standard for assessing key breast cancer biomarkers such as estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR). However, the staining process is resource-intensive, time-consuming, and dependent on specialized laboratory infrastructure. While recent advances in computational pathology have demonstrated the feasibility of predicting biomarker status directly from hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained tissue, most models lack visual interpretability, limiting clinical trust and adoption. METHODS: We propose a two-stage deep learning pipel

Generative Artificial Intelligence to Automate Cerebral Perfusion Mapping in Acute Ischemic Stroke from Non-contrast Head Computed Tomography Images: Pilot Study.

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, where rapid reperfusion remains critical for salvaging brain tissue. Although CT perfusion (CTP) imaging provides essential hemodynamic information, its limitations-including extended processing times, additional radiation exposure, and variable software outputs-can delay treatment. In contrast, non-contrast head CT (NCHCT) is ubiquitously available in acute stroke settings. This study explores a generative artificial intelligence approach to predict key perfusion parameters (relative cerebral blood flo

Super-resolution GAN-enhanced detection of sub-pixel marine plastic debris: Leveraging Sentinel-2 time-series and physics-informed deep learning.

AI-related satellite observation at the superpixel level has remained one of the major challenges for marine plastics because multispectral sensors are mostly lower in spatial resolution. The present research has therefore proposed a technique using the physics-informed deep learning super-resolution-generative adversarial network (SR-GAN) to enhance subpixel marine plastic detection from multi-temporal Sentinel-2 imagery. It utilizes multi-Sentinel-2 MSI spectral bands and plastic-sensitive indices to improve spatial details and spectral separability of floating plastic features in complex co

Structure-aware completion of plant 3D LiDAR point clouds via a multi-resolution GAN-inversion network.

INTRODUCTION: Three-dimensional (3D) point clouds acquired by LiDAR are fundamental for applications such as autonomous navigation, mobile robotics, infrastructure inspection, and cultural-heritage documentation. However, environmental disturbances and sensor limitations often yield incomplete or noisy point clouds, degrading downstream performance. This study addresses robust, high-fidelity point cloud completion under such practical conditions. METHODS: We propose an unsupervised deep learning framework, Multi-Resolution Completion Net (MRC-Net), which builds on ShapeInversion by integratin

FDDM: Unsupervised Medical Image Translation with a Frequency-Decoupled Diffusion Model.

Diffusion models have demonstrated significant potential in producing high-quality images in medical image translation to aid disease diagnosis, localization, and treatment. Nevertheless, current diffusion models often fall short when it comes to faithfully translating medical images. They struggle to accurately preserve anatomical structures, especially when working with unpaired datasets. In this study, we introduce the Frequency Decoupled Diffusion Model (FDDM) for MR-to-CT conversion. The differences between MR and CT images lie in both anatomical structures (e.g., the outlines of organs o

DiffDA-Net: diffusion-augmented domain adaptive network for analog circuit fault diagnosis under imbalanced and variable operating conditions.

Accurate fault diagnosis of analog circuits is critical for ensuring the reliability of modern electronic systems. Two practical challenges hinder data-driven methods: data imbalance, where certain fault modes are rare, and variable operating conditions, where models trained under one fault severity fail to generalize to different severity levels. Although both challenges have been studied in isolation, their co-occurrence in analog-circuit diagnosis has received little systematic attention. This paper proposes DiffDA-Net, a unified two-stage framework that addresses both challenges simultaneo

Synthetic cranial MRI from 3D optical surface scans using deep learning for radiation therapy treatment planning.

BACKGROUND: Optical scanning technologies are increasingly being utilised to supplement treatment workflows in radiation oncology, such as surface-guided radiotherapy or 3D printing custom bolus. One limitation of optical scanning devices is the absence of internal anatomical information of the patient being scanned. As a result, conventional radiation therapy treatment planning using this imaging modality is not feasible. Deep learning is useful for automating various manual tasks in radiation oncology, most notably, organ segmentation and treatment planning. Deep learning models have also be

Exploring latent diffusion models for ECG generation on the minute scale.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Artificial Intelligence (AI) models for electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation rely on large, diverse datasets, but existing clinical datasets are often skewed, overrepresenting normal rhythms and lacking rare pathologies. This limits model performance and generalizability. While generative AI has shown promise in other domains, its application to biosignals has so far been restricted to short segments, reducing clinical utility. Additionally, potentially promising tools like inpainting for artefact removal have not yet been explored in the biosignal domain. To overco

Hybrid attention and MLP-based deep learning for MRI classification of lumbar spine degeneration.

Lumbar spine degeneration (LSD) is a major contributor to lower back pain (LBP) worldwide, typically diagnosed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Manual interpretation of MRI scans is time-consuming and prone to variability, creating an urgent need for automated solutions. This study introduces a deep learning (DL) framework for classifying three key degenerative conditions, neural foraminal narrowing, subarticular stenosis, and spinal canal stenosis, across five lumbar disc levels. We evaluated multiple architectures, including VGG-16, EfficientNetV2-S, and YOLOv5, and enhanced feature e

A novel contrastive Dual-Branch Network (CDB-Net) for robust EEG-Based Alzheimer's disease diagnosis.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is neurodegenerative disorder that causes cognitive decline, memory loss, confusion, and changes in behavior. Early and accurate detection is important for timely intervention, current diagnostic methods can be slow, expensive, and have limited sensitivity. Electroencephalography (EEG) offers a simple and non-invasive way to measure brain activity, and it has shown promise in supporting AD diagnosis. However, EEG signals are often affected by noise-such as muscle movement, blinking, or electrical interference-which can make it harder for models to give reliable results

Explainable synthetic image generation to improve risk assessment of rare pediatric heart transplant rejection.

Expert microscopic analysis of cells obtained from frequent heart biopsies is vital for early detection of pediatric heart transplant rejection to prevent heart failure. Detection of this rare condition is prone to low levels of expert agreement due to the difficulty of identifying subtle rejection signs within biopsy samples. The rarity of pediatric heart transplant rejection also means that very few gold-standard images are available for developing machine learning models. To solve this urgent clinical challenge, we developed a deep learning model to automatically quantify rejection risk wit
