Laparoscopic myomectomy: a report of 982 procedures.

We have reported the experience of two referral laparoscopic gynecologic centers in Italy considering the results of almost 1000 laparoscopic myomectomies, including complication rate and fertility outcome. From January 1991 to December 2003, a total of 982 single or multiple laparoscopic myomectomies (LM) were performed. Indications were infertility, recent and significant uterine enlargement, and other symptoms such as pelvic pain, menometrorrhagia, and abnormal bleeding. All surgical procedures were performed by three surgeons in two different endoscopic centers. Surgery outcome and informa

Treatment of Gynecomastia by Endoscopic Subcutaneous Mastectomy in Adolescents.

Background: Morbidity of traditional open surgery for the treatment of gynecomastia includes asymmetry, retraction of the nipple, and poor scarring. Other approaches were described to improve the results. Endoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy (ESCM) was reported in adult series, including a few adolescents. This technique was considered as safe with good aesthetic results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of ESCM in an adolescent series. Patient and Methods: We treated 19 adolescents with Simon's grade IIB and III gynecomastia between June 2014 and July 2018. They could choose op

Retroacetabular osteolytic lesions behind well-fixed prosthetic cups: pilot study of bearings-retaining surgery.

BACKGROUND: Osteolytic lesions are common radiological findings behind acetabular prosthetic cups. If the cup is well-fixed, the management is quite controversial. Although implant exchange is the most reliable procedure, in most cases it could be considered overtreatment, with the potential for further morbidity and bone loss. Liner exchange associated with lesion debridement and grafting represents an alternative option that is less invasive. Here we present our experiences from a small pilot study of minimally invasive osteolysis treatment without bearings exchange in patients with no evide

[Sprengel's deformity].

The authors deal with etiology, pathological anatomy and clinical finding in inborn high-riding scapula--the so-called Sprengel deformity. What is the best treatment tactics? Is the conservative treatment more suitable than the surgical one, or vice versa? By comparing their own experience with the data in the specialized literature the authors advocate a strictly individualized approach to each affected patient. After determining the diagnosis of Sprengel deformity it is necessary to evaluate the position of the scapula and the extent of the limitation of the range of motion of the respective

Diagnosis and Management of an Adenomatoid Uterine Tumor: Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Surgical Appearance, and Pathology Correlation.

Adenomatoid uterine tumors are rare, and their appearance on medical imaging modalities is not well established. We present a case of an adenomatoid uterine tumor reviewing a unique sonographic presentation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), gross surgical appearance of the tumor, and microscopic pathology images. A 29-year-old gravida 0 Caucasian woman presented with dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and desire to conceive. Transvaginal ultrasound revealed a 2.7 cm round, well-circumscribed posterior intramural uterine mass. The mass was hyperechoic centrally with a thin hypoechoic rim. Color Dopple

Anatomical Control of Adenoma Technique: An Accurate Surgical Approach to Thulium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate.

OBJECTIVE: To present our 2-lobe technique of thulium laser transurethral enucleation of the prostate. Transurethral resection of prostate and open prostatectomy have been traditionally considered as the gold standard for benign prostatic enlargement surgical treatment. Laser has been recently made available for benign prostatic enlargement surgery to minimize morbidity of traditional surgery.1 In 2009, Bach et al introduced the use of thulium laser,2 describing the 3-lobe technique, which overlaps open prostatectomy but with a greater control of hemostasis.3 Two techniques have been recently

Bidirectional nuclear polarization through electric dipole spin resonance enabled by spin-orbit interaction in a single hole planar quantum dot device.

BACKGROUND: Non-hysteroscopic myomectomy is infrequently performed in a freestanding ambulatory setting, in part due to risks of intraoperative hemorrhage. There are also concerns about increased surgical risks for morbidly obese patients in this setting. The purpose of this study is to report the surgical outcomes of a series of laparoscopic-assisted myomectomy (LAM) cases at a freestanding ambulatory surgery center (ASC), including a comparative analysis of outcomes in morbidly obese patients (BMI > 40 kg/m2). METHODS: A retrospective comparative analysis was performed of 969 women, age 18

Uterine sarcoma: a clinical case and a literature review.

BACKGROUND: Uterine sarcomas are rare gynaecologic tumours representing 3-7% of all uterine malignancies. The aetiology of sarcomas is still unclear: it is thought, that chromosomal translocations have influence on wide histological variety of sarcomas. Presenting symptoms are vague and nonspecific. Usually sarcoma causes abnormal vaginal bleeding, can cause abdominal or pelvic pain, or manifests as a rapidly growing uterine tumour. The diagnosis of sarcoma is often made retrospectively after surgical removal of a presumed benign uterine neoplasm, because imaging modalities such as ultrasound,

A rare huge bladder inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor treated by en bloc resection with diode laser: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare neoplasm with malignant potential. Bladder IMT is even rarer and mainly treated by surgical resection However, partial or radical cystectomy would affect the quality of life of patients due to major surgical trauma, and classical TURBT is hard to avoid intraoperative complications including obturator nerve reflex and bleeding etc. Therefore, the safe and effective better choice of surgical approaches become critical to bladder IMT. CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old male patient was admitted to the department of urology with persist

Transurethral dividing vaporesection for the treatment of large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia using 2 micron continuous wave laser.

BACKGROUND: The safety and efficiency of transurethral laser resection of the prostate to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia have been verified. However, this method does still not manage large volume prostates efficiently. To tackle this problem, we have designed a method of "transurethral dividing vaporesection of prostate" using a 2 micron continuous wave laser. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficiency of this method in the management of large prostates (> 80 ml). METHODS: In this study, 45 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia with a median prostatic volume of (123.
