Computed tomography (CT) of the wrist can help evaluate many types of posttraumatic injuries, particularly bony trauma. Most wrist fractures can be diagnosed with routine radiography, but problematic cases and complicated healing fractures can be difficult to evaluate with conventional radiography. CT provides improved contrast resolution and multiplanar imaging. The results of complex healing fractures and fusion procedures can be facilitated with CT. Even in the face of advanced osteoporosis CT can delineate bone edges and detect small areas of bony fusion. The degree of bone graft assimilat

BACKGROUND: We developed a surgical procedure that can facilitate arthroscopic intervention for volar locking plate fixation for distal radius fracture (DRF) with a less invasive technique. This study is to investigate the effectiveness of our original procedure for the treatment of DRF.
METHODS: One hundred fifty-five wrists of 153 consecutive patients underwent our original procedure: the plate presetting arthroscopic reduction technique (PART) for DRF. The fractures consisted of 37 extra-articular and 118 intra-articular fractures. The fractures were reduced, anatomical alignment was regai

OBJECTIVE: To stabilize the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) by performing dorsal capsular imbrication in patients presenting with dorsal instability. The goal was to reduce pain and prevent the occurrence of posttraumatic arthrosis.
INDICATIONS: Posttraumatic dorsal instability of the DRUJ with missing block while performing translational activities in the DRUJ or subluxation while actively rotating the forearm. Cases, in which other stabilizing techniques, such as, sutures of the triangular fibrocartilage complex failed.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: DRUJ arthrosis, previous surgical interventions to t

Hand and wrist injuries are common occurrences in amateur and professional sports and many of them are sport-specific. These can be divided into two categories: traumatic injuries and overuse injuries. The aim of this article is to review the most common hand and wrist sports-related lesions. Acute wrist injuries are predominantly bone fractures, such as those of the scaphoid, hamate hook, and ulnar styloid. Ligament lesions are more challenging for radiologists and may lead to carpal instability if undiagnosed. Overuse wrist injuries are mainly represented by tendinous disorders, with De Quer

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI for detecting intracarpal lesions in clinical routine.
PATIENTS AND MATERIALS: In a retrospective study, we reviewed the charts of 506 patients who had undergone wrist arthroscopy in our department between May 1998 and November 2002. Out of 506 patients 217 had an MRI. The MRI was performed at 31 different radiology facilities using a number of techniques. The MRI results were compared with the arthroscopic findings, taking the arthroscopic results as a "gold standard" (sensitivity = SEN, specificity = SPE, positive pr

Acute management of fractures involving the head and neck of the distal ulna associated with comminuted unstable fractures of the distal radius remains difficult and controversial. Fifteen consecutive such cases treated with combined external and internal fixation together with primary resection of comminuted distal ulna fracture fragments and reconstruction of the periosteal sleeve and triangular fibrocartilaginous complex are reviewed. At an average follow-up of 5.8 years, all patients were assessed for range of motion, strength, pain and function, and radiographic appearance. All had a rang

Wrist arthroscopy has undergone substantial evolution over the past 2 decades, transitioning from a primarily diagnostic procedure to a versatile therapeutic platform with applications across trauma, instability, degenerative disease, and reconstructive surgery. Advances in instrumentation, visualization, and surgical technique have expanded indications while facilitating less invasive management of complex wrist pathology. In acute fracture care, arthroscopy provides direct assessment of articular reduction and associated soft tissue injuries in scaphoid and distal radius fractures, with emer

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears can significantly impair wrist stability and daily function. Regenerative medicine, particularly mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy, may complement traditional surgical approaches such as debridement with synovectomy to enhance recovery.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: This report presents the 1-year follow-up of a 41-year-old male with a TFCC tear previously treated with debridement synovectomy followed by intra-articular umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) and UC-MSC-derived secretome. UC-MSCs were select

Background: Ulnar-sided wrist pain (USWP) is a frequent complaint, and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries are amongst its most common aetiologies. Nonsurgical management of USWP is heterogeneous with variable periods of immobilisation. This study describes the outcome of a structured multiphase, conservative program for USWP that was clinically diagnosed as TFCC injuries in a single centre. Methods: Thirty-two individuals with USWP, foveal tenderness ± distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) laxity diagnosed as TFCC injuries participated in the structured multiphase therapy program from

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to characterise the clinical and radiographical phenotype of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition (CPPD) disease in patients initially diagnosed with seronegative RA, and to increase the awareness that CPPD disease can be falsely diagnosed as seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODS: Altogether 435 early seronegative RA patients were clinically diagnosed in a single rheumatology centre and scheduled for a 10-year follow-up. All clinical data were collected and reviewed. CPPD-related arthritis was suspected if a patient had typical radiographical findings and

BACKGROUND: Dorsal wrist ganglions are one of the most frequently encountered problems of the wrist and often are associated with intraarticular disorders. However, it is unclear whether coexisting intraarticular disorders influence persistent pain or recurrence after arthroscopic resection of dorsal wrist ganglions.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: We investigated (1) which intraarticular disorders coexist with dorsal wrist ganglions and (2) whether they influenced pain, function, and recurrence after arthroscopic ganglion resection.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 41 patients with primary dorsal w

UNLABELLED: Purpose wrist arthroscopy is typically performed under general or regional anesthesia with the aid of a tourniquet to maintain a bloodless field. We have been using portal site local anesthesia (PSLA) for wrist arthroscopy without a tourniquet since 1998. The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy, safety, and complications of PSLA and whether this can be recommended for routine wrist arthroscopy. Method We conducted a retrospective study, identifying 111 consecutive cases of wrist arthroscopies performed from January 2007 to December 2009. All cases were performed under PSLA.

Background: Ulnar styloid triquetrum impaction syndrome (USTI) is a rare cause of ulnar-sided wrist pain resulting from a mechanical conflict between an elongated ulnar styloid and the carpal bones. Despite various surgical options, there is no consensus on the optimal treatment. This study aims to systematically review and synthesise the available literature on the surgical treatment of USTI, focussing on clinical presentation, surgical techniques, outcomes and complications. Methods: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Four databases (PubMed, Medline, Emba

Background Measurement of in vivo distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) pathomechanics during simple activities can represent the disability experienced by patients and may be useful in diagnostics of DRUJ instability. A first step is to describe the physiological normal limits for DRUJ kinematics in a reproducible and precise test setup, which was the aim of this study. Methods DRUJ kinematics were evaluated in 33 participants with dynamic radiostereometry (RSA) while performing a standardized press test examination. AutoRSA software was used for image analyses. Computed tomography (CT) forearm bo

AIMS: Diagnostic wrist arthroscopy is considered the gold standard for evaluating wrist joint complaints. Although this tool is often used to diagnose and stage scapholunate ligament (SLL) lesions, reports about the possible findings and their clinical relevance are scarce. Therefore, this study describes the patient characteristics, arthroscopic findings, and treatment of patients who underwent diagnostic arthroscopy for suspected SLL injury.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent diagnostic wrist arthroscopy due to suspicion of a SLL lesion based on med

PURPOSE: In patients with symptomatic chronic distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) instability with irreparable triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), reconstruction with a tendon graft is indicated. We performed a follow-up study with a minimum 32-month follow-up in a bid to propose an arthroscopic TFCC anatomical reconstruction technique using a single limb of tendon graft as a viable option for patients with irreparable TFCC and chronic symptomatic DRUJ instability.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2015 and 2021, eight (four females, four males) patients with an average age of 29.5 years under
