Antimicrobial resistance profile of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases, adenosine-monophosphate-cyclic, and carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria isolated from domestic animals.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The production of beta-lactamase enzymes, such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), adenosine-monophosphate-cyclic (AmpC), and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC), is one of the most important mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials. Gram-negative bacteria show significant resistance due to various intrinsic and acquired factors. These intrinsic factors include low permeability of the outer membrane, various efflux systems, and the production of beta-lactamases, while acquired factors include chromosomal mutation and acquisition of resistance genes

[CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF PRESSURE ULCER INFECTION].

Pressure ulcer is a localized injury of the skin and/or adjacent tissue, usually above bone protrusions. It is a result of pressure or pressure combined with shear stress, friction and humidity. With regard to long life and delayed healing, it is a chronic wound. Pressure ulcer appears as a consequence of a combination of micro-embolism, ischemia and myonecrosis. These pathophysiological processes provide an ideal medium for proliferation of microorganisms, predominantly bacteria, and development of infection. Progression in the development of pressure ulcer is a dynamic process manifesting in

[Accurate diagnosis of Pseudomonas luteola in routine microbiology laboratory: on the occasion of two isolates].

Pseudomonas luteola which was previously known as Chryseomonas luteola; is a gram-negative, non-fermentative, aerobic, motile, non-spore-forming bacillus. It is frequently found as a saprophyte in soil, water and other damp environments and is an opportunistic pathogen in patients with underlying medical disorders or with indwelling catheters. It has been reported as an uncommon cause of bacteremia, sepsis, septic arthritis, meningitis, endocarditis, and peritonitis. Thus, early and accurate identification of this rare species is important for the treatment and also to provide information abou

The diagnostic and prognostic utility of blood metagenomic next-generation sequencing for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis.

UNLABELLED: Differentiating invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) from colonization in patients with Aspergillus-positive blood metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) remains a clinical challenge. This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of blood mNGS-derived fungal load (reads per million [RPM]) and two key serological biomarkers (galactomannan [GM] and 1,3-β-D-glucan [BDG]) in distinguishing these two entities. This retrospective study enrolled 95 patients with Aspergillus detected by blood mNGS, stratified into infection (n = 60) and colonization (n = 35) grou

Bloodstream infections in cancer patients in central India: pathogens and trends of antimicrobial resistance over a 5-year period.

Introduction. Bloodstream infection (BSI) is a common complication with a high fatality rate in cancer patients. There are notable variations in the epidemiology of BSI over time and among different countries. Infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are increasing. This may lead to inadequate empirical antibiotic therapy, increasing the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) problem and unfavourable outcomes in these immunocompromised patients. There is paucity of data pertaining to AMR

Distribution of Isolated Pathogens and Resistance Patterns in Non-Ventilator Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia at King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH), Bahrain: A Retrospective Study.

Background Non-ventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP), defined as pneumonia developing ≥48 hours after admission in non-intubated patients, is increasingly recognized as a major contributor to hospital morbidity and mortality but remains under-studied compared with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), particularly in the Gulf region. In Bahrain, published NV-HAP data are absent, limiting locally informed empiric therapy and antimicrobial stewardship. This study aimed to characterize bacterial pathogens causing culture-confirmed NV-HAP in adults at a tertiary center in Bahrain and to

Prevalence of Bacteria and Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Hospital Water and Surfaces.

Purpose Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a worldwide environmental and public health problem, causing more than 250,000 deaths per year. Unregulated usage, unsafe hospital practices, and misuse in veterinary contribute to the development of multidrug resistance in various bacteria. Hospital water was hypothesized to be a hotspot for AMR transmission because of (1) increased exposure to antibiotic load, (2) poor drainage and sanitation system, (3) interaction between environmental and clinical microbes. The purpose of the research was to assess the biodiversity and AMR in hospital tap

Antimicrobial activities and action mechanism studies of transportan 10 and its analogues against multidrug-resistant bacteria.

The increased emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria is perceived as a critical public health threat, creating an urgent need for the development of novel classes of antimicrobials. Cell-penetrating peptides that share common features with antimicrobial peptides have been found to have antimicrobial activity and are currently being considered as potential alternatives to antibiotics. Transportan 10 is a chimeric cell-penetrating peptide that has been reported to transport biologically relevant cargoes into mammalian cells and cause damage to microbial membranes. In this study, we designed a

Combining demographic shifts with age-based resistance prevalence to estimate future antimicrobial resistance burden in Europe and implications for targets: A modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a global public health crisis. Evaluating intervention impact requires accurate estimates of how the AMR burden will change over time, given likely demographic shifts. This study aimed to provide an estimate of future AMR burden in Europe, investigating resistance variation by age and sex and the impact of interventions to achieve the proposed United Nations (UN) political declaration targets. METHODS AND FINDINGS: Using data from 12,807,473 bloodstream infection (BSI) susceptibility tests from routine surveillance in Europe, we estimate age- and
