Neuropsychological Functioning in Transgender Adults: Evidence from a University-Based Gender Identity Clinic in Türkiye.

BACKGROUND: Neurocognitive functioning in transgender adults remains understudied and is predominantly derived from Western samples, often treated as universally applicable. Evidence from non-Western contexts is limited, despite the potential influence of structural stigma and minority stress on cognition and research participation. Türkiye represents a sociopolitical setting where transgender individuals face significant barriers to healthcare and research. To date, no study has systematically examined the neuropsychological profile of transgender adults in Türkiye using a four-group design.

Treatment Outcomes and Resistance Patterns in Low Risk GTN: A 270-Patient Experience from a Tertiary Center.

Because of the lack of fully successful treatment of low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) patients after first-line single-agent chemotherapy, some studies have suggested that these patients should be treated with multi-drug chemotherapy from the outset. A score of 0-4 represents the majority of low risk GTN that has been less studied. The present study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with resistance to first-line single-agent chemotherapy. This retrospective cohort includes patients diagnosed with low-risk GTN who were treated with single-agent chemotherapy usin

Underreporting of Coronary Stents in LDCT for Lung Cancer Screening and Their Differentiation From Severe Coronary Artery Calcifications.

Lung Cancer (LC) screening with low-dose CT (LDCT) is recommended in smokers and former smokers irrespective of cardiovascular disease (CVD) history. Differentiating coronary stents from moderate-to-severe coronary artery calcifications (CACs) on LDCT examinations can be challenging and have clinical implications. We hypothesized that coronary stents are inadequately reported in screening LDCT examinations and conducted a retrospective analysis nested within an LC screening study. Moreover, we devised a postprocessing procedure to differentiate coronary stents and severe CACs in LDCT examinati

Comprehensive benefits evaluation of low impact development using scenario analysis and fuzzy decision approach.

The comprehensive benefit evaluation of LID based on multi-criteria decision-making methods faces technical issues such as the uncertainties and vagueness in hybrid information sources, which can affect the overall evaluation results and ranking of alternatives. This study introduces a multi-indicator fuzzy comprehensive benefit evaluation approach for the selection of LID measures, aiming to provide a robust and holistic framework for evaluating their benefits at the community level. The proposed methodology integrates quantitative environmental and economic indicators with qualitative social

Nonabsorbable Polymeric Clips for Appendicular Stump Closure during Laparoscopic Appendectomy.

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is the most frequent cause of emergency surgical procedures performed worldwide. Laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) has gained considerable popularity in the last decades. However, the ideal method for appendicular stump closure during LA is still debatable and depends on the surgeon's preference and intraoperative judgment. The endoloop ligatures (EL) is the most used method but its application is quite challenging. The efficacy of nonabsorbable polymeric clip (PC) has been proven and it was first described for appendicular stump closure in 2007. METHODS: A retrosp

Adjunctive coronary thrombectomy during PCI: A single-center retrospective real-world experience.

BACKGROUND: The role of coronary thrombectomy during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains controversial. While early studies showed potential benefits, subsequent larger trials failed to confirm and raised concerns about increased stroke risk. Yet, thrombectomy remains a straightforward and widely available technique that may have value in selected high-thrombotic scenarios. This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of selective coronary thrombectomy during PCI in a real-world, single-center setting. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study including 2658 consec

Transient Neurological Deficit Due to Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Diagnostic Pitfall Mimicking a Transient Ischemic Attack.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe and potentially fatal subtype of stroke that typically presents with persistent or worsening neurological deficits. In contrast, transient neurological deficits are commonly attributed to transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). As a result, many clinicians initiate antiplatelet therapy without prior brain imaging, especially in settings with limited resources. However, this approach may lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment in rare cases where ICH mimics a TIA. A 64-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with sudden-onset left-sid

An Explainable AI Framework for Corneal Imaging Interpretation and Refractive Surgery Decision Support.

This study introduces an explainable neuro-symbolic and large language model (LLM)-driven framework for intelligent interpretation of corneal topography and precision surgical decision support. In a prospective cohort of 20 eyes, comprehensive IOLMaster 700 reports were analyzed through a four-stage pipeline: (1) automated extraction of key parameters-including corneal curvature, pachymetry, and axial biometry; (2) mapping of these quantitative features onto a curated corneal disease and refractive-surgery knowledge graph; (3) Bayesian probabilistic inference to evaluate early keratoconus and

Intelligent Fault Diagnosis System for Running Gear of High-Speed Trains.

Conventional rail transit train running gear fault diagnosis mainly depends on routine maintenance inspections and manual judgment. However, these approaches lack robustness under complex operational environments and elevated noise levels, rendering them inadequate for real-time performance and the rigorous accuracy standards demanded by modern rail transit systems. Furthermore, many existing deep learning-based methods suffer from inherent limitations in feature extraction or incur prohibitive computational costs when processing multivariate time series data. This study represents one of the

Cancer patients admitted to intensive care unit - a six-year retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Literature about critically ill cancer patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) is scarce. The decision to recommend ICU admission is complex and usually involves many subjective factors, making it an intricate issue for both medical oncologists and intensive care physicians. As oncologic and supportive measure treatments improve, a question that becomes increasingly relevant is which patients should be admitted to the ICU, as the natural history of cancer is clearly shifting and newer admission parameters should be established. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed a retrosp

Case Report: Holistic approach to management of an infant with severe osteogenesis imperfecta in the neonatal intensive care unit.

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Type II is the most severe and often lethal form of OI, characterized by profound skeletal fragility and perinatal complications, most notably respiratory failure secondary to thoracic deformities and pulmonary hypoplasia. Effective NICU management requires a holistic, family-centered approach combined with comprehensive medical care, and can be particularly challenging in centers with limited experience managing similar conditions. This is further complicated by ethical dilemmas, including decisions regarding the extent of interventions requiring nuanc
