BACKGROUND: Cutaneous manifestations in angio-immunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) can be seen in almost 50% of patients. They are especially represented by maculo-papular pseudotoxic exanthema. Over the past 30 yr, the prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) has increased significantly in the general population. Given this increased burden of disease, more AD will be seen in civilian and military aviators. BACKGROUND: Hyperhidrosis (primary or secondary) is excessive sweating beyond that required to return body temperature to normal. It can be localized or generalized, commonly affecting the axillae, palms, soles or face, and can have a substantial negative effect on a patient's quality of life.
IMPACT OF DISEASE: Objective evaluation comprising quantitative assessment (gravimetric and Minor's iodine starch test) and subjective evaluation (Dermatology Quality of Life Index and Hyperhidrosis Impact Questionnaire) allow accurate assessment of the impact of hyperhidrosis on patients.

BACKGROUND: Transdermal nicotine is of value in active ulcerative colitis but causes adverse events because of systemic absorption. Nicotine enemas may give rise to fewer adverse events.
AIM: To assess the pharmacokinetics of nicotine enemas in three doses.
METHODS: Thirteen volunteers, all non-smokers but three ex-smokers, were given enemas on separate occasions containing 3, 6 and 9 mg of nicotine, in ascending dose order. Adverse events were recorded and blood samples taken over 8 h for measurement of serum nicotine and cotinine.

The epidemiological features and clinical manifestations of adult cases of brucellosis admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases, Babol Medical University, Iran from 1997 to 2002 were investigated. Of 469 cases, 267 (56.9%) were males. The mean age of cases was 36.9 +/- 15 years. Most (60.8%) were from rural areas. Two thirds of cases (306, 66.3%) presented during spring or summer. Common krait (Bungarus caeruleus) is the deadliest snake found commonly in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. In Anuradhapura, 210 farmers bitten by the common krait over a three year period were investigated prospectively from 1 January 1996. The sex ratio was equal, 110 (52%) patients were in the age group 10-30 years.
