We report the first case of pulmonary disease caused by a strain of Mycobacterium avium complex of presumed veterinary origin in an elderly patient. We characterize three respiratory isolates of the recently described species Mycobacterium talmoniae recovered in Texas, Louisiana, and Massachusetts, including the first case of disease in a patient with underlying cystic fibrosis.
