The Impact of Digital Education on Communication Skills Among Medical Students in Ibn Sina University: A Cross-Sectional Online Survey.

We distributed a web-based cross-sectional questionnaire to 446 medical students at Ibn Sina University. The questionnaire was based on a comprehensive review of the literature including, in particular, the questionnaire from First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 and a communication survey developed by the University of Louisville Ombuds Office, Louisville, KY. We concluded that online education has had a negative impact on social, personal, and family communication but a positive impact on academic communication. In our comparison of Sudanese and foreign students using patient-physician scenarios, b

Emotion displays in ambulance calls for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A qualitative inquiry of caller and call-taker communication.

INTRODUCTION: Caller emotion influences the flow of emergency ambulance calls for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) however limited research has examined how call-takers manage emotion. We aimed to identify how and where emotion manifests in OHCA calls and how call-takers respond. METHODS: We analysed 107 consecutive OHCA calls to St John Western Australia (January-April 2021) containing emotion-related barriers to bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (B-CPR). Calls were ranked using the Emotional Content and Cooperation Score; 62 calls scoring 4 or 5 were included. We developed a sche

Beyond coexistence: the asymmetric interplay of health risk and promotion pathways driven by communication legacies across emerging and recurring epidemics.

OBJECTIVE: Prior emergency risk communication incidents create enduring psychological legacies that complicate the interplay between health-promoting and health-risk tendencies. This study investigates how negative and positive legacies jointly operate within this spillover effect. Specifically, we examine whether positive legacies can offset the adverse effects of negative ones and identify the boundary conditions moderated by emerging versus recurring epidemics-under which this buffering mechanism fails. METHODS: Grounded in the Stress Spillover Model and Post-traumatic Growth Theory, a dua

Survey report on functional tests in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia: communication from the ISTH SSC subcommittee on immune-mediated platelet disorders.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a severe, immune-mediated adverse drug reaction characterized by platelet-activating antibodies produced in response to heparin therapy, leading to thrombocytopenia and an increased risk of thrombosis. Functional assays are critical for confirming HIT but remain challenged by significant inter-laboratory variability that undermines diagnostic accuracy and reproducibility. This study aimed to evaluate current functional HIT testing and identify areas for standardization. A structured electronic survey was distributed to laboratories performing functiona

Integrated Single-Cell and System Network Analysis: Exploring Cellular Communication Network Complexity and Signal Transmission Dysregulation in Down Syndrome Brain.

Down syndrome (DS) is a widespread chromosomal disorder primarily associated with cognitive impairment and progressive neurodegenerative changes. Clinically, age 50 years is considered a pivotal turning point in the health trajectory of individuals with DS. Before this age, they primarily face developmental challenges including significant cognitive deficits and difficulties in social interaction. However, as they age, they increasingly exhibit more severe neurodegenerative changes, including Alzheimer's disease (AD)-like cognitive decline and dementia symptoms. This study aimed to dissect int

Exercise-derived exosomes mediate crosstalk between skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and bone: mechanisms of inter-organ communication and tissue adaptation.

Inter-organ communication among bone, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue is essential for maintaining metabolic homeostasis and musculoskeletal integrity. Dysregulation of this crosstalk is closely associated with aging-related and metabolic diseases, including osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and obesity. With population aging and the rising prevalence of metabolic disorders, elucidating the mechanisms underlying bone-muscle-adipose interactions has become a critical focus in biomedical research. Emerging evidence highlights exercise-derived exosomes as key mediators of intercellular communication.

Moving toward precision communication in pediatric oncology clinical trials: An outline of a conceptual framework to support caregiver decision-making.

Pediatric oncology clinical trials (POCTs) are the cornerstone of therapeutic progress in childhood cancer. Yet, poor accrual and retention remain persistent challenges contributing to early termination of POCTs, limiting the advancement of novel therapies. These challenges reflect a convergence of system, protocol, clinician, and family-level factors, among which caregivers' psychosocial decision-making processes represent a potentially modifiable but underexplored contributor. Caregivers making POCT-related decisions must navigate complex medical information under conditions of heightened em
