Iron extraction from copper slag constructs oxygen vacancy-containing Fe₂O₃ for electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia.

The synergistic treatment of copper slag valorization and nitrate wastewater remediation represents a critical pathway toward the high-value utilization of metallurgical solid waste and nitrogen resource recovery. This study employs a strategy synergistically coupling thermal reconstruction with surface defect engineering to convert the Fe-containing phases in copper smelting slag into an Fe₂O₃-based electrocatalyst, designated as WCS600. At -0.6 V vs. RHE, WCS600 achieves an NH₃ production rate of 7.16 mg h⁻¹ cm⁻² and a FENH3 of 91.56%. Characterization and DFT calculations reveal that cathod

In vitro and in vivo evaluation of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens E35 as prophylactic agents against Singapore grouper iridovirus.

As the main highly pathogenic pathogen of grouper, Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV) can give rise to significant economic losses in grouper aquaculture. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, is a probiotic with proven positive effects on grouper and Trachinotus ovatus, protecting those species against several bacterial pathogens. However, its antiviral activity remains to be investigated. We have previously isolated B. amyloliquefaciens E35, a probiotic with a desirable effect on pathogenic bacteria. We aimed to evaluate the anti-SGIV activity of E35 and extracts in vivo and in vitro, and the current

The Changing Landscape of Akabane Virus: A Comprehensive Review.

Akabane virus (AKAV) is an orthobunyavirus transmitted by biting midges of the genus Culicoides. This virus mainly affects ruminant species and represents an important threat to animal health across the world, being distributed in regions of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania. Although adult animals usually develop subclinical infection, AKAV can cross the placental barrier producing abortions, stillbirths, and severe congenital malformations that lead to substantial economic losses. Lately, AKAV has expanded its host range to non-ruminant species such as domestic pigs and bamboo rats,

Optimization of untranslated regions enhances antigen expression and immunogenicity of FMDV P12A3C mRNA vaccine.

Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) causes substantial economic losses to the global livestock industry annually. Current vaccines inadequately prevent infection and transmission of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV), highlighting the urgent need for FMDV mRNA vaccines with enhanced immunogenicity and safety. The immunogenicity of mRNA vaccines is largely determined by sequence design, particularly the optimization of untranslated regions (UTRs), which significantly enhance mRNA stability and promote efficient antigen expression. In this study, eight UTR sequences were designed and evaluated using t

Immunoinformatics-Based Design of a Multiple-Epitope Vaccine Against IHNV.

Infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) is a significant viral pathogen that affects salmonids, leading to high mortality and substantial economic losses in aquaculture. The current vaccine strategies focus on use of DNA and inactivated vaccines. However, these strategies face limitations concerning biosafety and efficacy. Therefore, in this work, we employed an approach based on the immunoinformatic platform to develop a multi-epitope vaccine against IHNV. For that purpose, we analyzed the glycoprotein of IHNV and identified highly antigenic and non-allergenic cytotoxic T lymphocyte (C

Machine Learning-Driven Rational Design of Organic Electro-Oxidation Catalysts: A Mechanism-Embedded Approach to Selectivity Engineering.

Organic electro-oxidation (OEO) uses electrons to drive selective organic transformations under ambient conditions, offering a sustainable alternative to high-temperature, high-pressure oxidation and contributing to the decarbonization of chemical manufacturing. However, OEO systems typically break linear scaling relationships due to coupled multi-pathway competitive kinetics, dynamic interfacial restructuring, and cross-scale amplification, rendering reaction networks highly nonlinear and high-dimensional. Traditional approaches, single thermodynamic descriptors, trial-and-error optimization,
