Exploring the Feasibility of a Generic Early Intervention Programme for Emerging Personality Disorder in Adolescents: Guideline-Informed Treatment for Personality Disorders-Adolescent Version (GITPD-A).

The Guideline-Informed Treatment for Personality Disorders-Adolescent version (GITPD-A) is an accessible, general approach to treating personality disorders (PDs) in adolescents. This study assessed the feasibility of the intervention and of a multicentre research design, as a preliminary step towards larger, better-controlled trials. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used across five mental healthcare institutions. Eligible participants were adolescents aged 12-18 meeting threshold criteria for a PD under the DSM-5 alternative model. Participants (91.9% female; mean age 15.9 years) rece

In-person when necessary and available, remotely when possible - How telemedicine can support palliative care for persons with Parkinson's disease: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Essential components of optimal palliative care for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) include adequate access and timely initiation of palliative care conversations. However, care for people with PD faces several challenges, including limited access, time constraints for healthcare professionals, cognitive decline, and emotional barriers around end-of-life discussions. Telemedicine may help address some of these challenges. This study explored how telemedicine could support palliative care for people with PD from the perspectives of people with PD, family caregivers, and healthc

Decolonising Healthcare Through Curricula: Integrating Indigenous Knowledges and Person-Centred Practice Through the Integrated Indigenous and Person-Centred Practice Theory and Framework.

AIM AND DESIGN: Indigenous knowledge systems offer enduring, relational and strengths-based frameworks for health and wellbeing. This theory and framework paper critically analyses how colonial legacies embedded in nursing curricula marginalise Indigenous knowledges and perpetuate inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We argue that current approaches, often fragmented, tokenistic and additive in nature, fail to address the structural and pedagogical roots of unsafe cultural practices and institutional racism in nursing education. RESULTS: In response, we present the In

Adolescents' pathological personality traits, mentalizing, and daily social interactions linking Criteria A and B from the DSM-5 alternative model for personality disorders.

Personality pathology often emerges in adolescence-a period marked by increasing autonomy and complex peer dynamics-but its moment-to-moment interpersonal expression remains poorly understood. This preregistered, multi-informant ambulatory assessment study tracked 294 adolescents (58.5% female; ages 12-21) across 13,190 real-world interactions over 14 days. Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition, alternative model for personality disorders, we examined how maladaptive traits (Criterion B) relate to interpersonal functioning (Criterion A), operationalized

Stress-related fluctuations in personality functioning in daily life: Pilot data from an ambulatory monitoring study in outpatients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

This pilot study aimed to test a comprehensive experience sampling method (ESM) protocol for investigating the relationship between stress and personality functioning (PF) in the daily lives of outpatients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Participants (N = 22) responded to a 32-item ESM questionnaire 10 times a day for 1 week while wearing two stress detection devices. Results showed that the protocol was feasible. There was a high level of compliance (i.e. average of 85%), and no serious adverse events. The main indices, that is, Stress and PF, demonstrated acceptable to

The 24-Year Course of Symptomatic Disorders in Patients With Borderline Personality Disorder and Personality-Disordered Comparison Subjects: Description and Prediction of Recovery From BPD.

Objectives: Our first objective was to compare the prevalence of symptomatic disorders (formerly Axis I disorders) over 24 years of prospective follow-up among patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and other personality disordered comparison subjects as well as recovered vs nonrecovered borderline patients. Our second objective was to assess the relationship between the absence of 5 major classes of symptomatic disorders over time and the likelihood of concurrent recovery among borderline patients. Methods: The McLean Study of Adult Development (MSAD) is a naturalistic prospectiv

Does personality always matter for health? Examining the moderating effect of age on the personality-health link from life span developmental and aging perspectives.

Extensive evidence has been found for the associations between personality traits and health. However, it remains unknown whether the relationships between personality and health show differential patterns across different life stages. The current research examined how the associations between the levels of and changes in the Big Five personality traits and different types of health outcomes (self-rated, physical, and physiological health outcomes) differ across ages over the life span (Sample 1, age range: 15-100) and during the aging process (Sample 2, age range: 50-109) in particular. Longitudinal Associations Between Interpersonal Distrust and Social Aggression During College: Disentangling the Within-Person Process from Stable Between-Person Differences.

There is a dearth of information on the relationship between interpersonal distrust and social aggression in the youth, although both may lead to negative interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, scholars have not explored whether interpersonal distrust influences later social aggression over time at the within-person level. This study used five wave longitudinal data to investigate the longitudinal association between interpersonal distrust and social aggression and the role of hostile attribution bias in this relationship; notably, it used a relatively rigorous approach-the random intercept

The relationship between mood disorders, personality disorder and suicidality in adolescence: does general personality disturbance play a significant role in predicting suicidal behavior?

INTRODUCTION: Current research points to the importance personality pathology and Major Depression e as relevant psycopathological risk factors for understanding suicidal risk in adolescence. Literature has mainly focused on the role of BPD, however current orientations in personality pathological functioning suggest that BPD may be the representative of a general personality disturbance, a factor of vulnerability underlying diverse psychopathological variants and aspects of maladaptive functioning. However, recent studies seem to have neglected the contributions that other specific personalit

Trading Patients: Applying the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders to Two Cases of DSM-5 Borderline Personality Disorder Over Time and Across Therapists.

The DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) dimensionally defines personality pathology using severity of dysfunction and maladaptive style. As the empirical literature on the clinical utility of the AMPD grows, there is a need to examine changes in diagnostic profiles and personality expression in treatment over time. Assessing these changes in individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) is complicated by the tendency for patients to cycle through multiple therapists over the course of treatment leaving the potential for muddled diagnostic clarity and dis

[Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Clarification-Oriented Psychotherapy in Persons with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder According to DSM-IV - A Naturalistic Longitudinal Study with Pre-Post Design].

BACKGROUND: The treatment of patients diagnosed with a narcissistic personality disorder (NPS) is considered to be extra challenging. Well-controlled studies on the effectiveness of psychotherapy in NPS patients are not available; so many interventions are based on theoretical constructs. The clarification-oriented psychotherapy (COP) is a psychotherapeutic approach, which emerged from concepts of the cognitive behavioral therapy, client-centered psychotherapy and various process-oriented procedures. The present ambulatory therapy-evaluation of COP aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a psyc

Do Personal Nurse-Initiated Medication Boxes Work in Prison? A Cross-Sectional Study Involving Incarcerated Persons and Prison Officers in a Swiss Prison.

INTRODUCTION: Daily in-hand medication dispensing in prisons and jails is resource intensive, disempowering, and nonconfidential. This research aimed to assess a nurse-initiated, low-frequency medication dispensing system using personal lockable boxes. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a Swiss prison involving 47 box users and 19 custodial officers. FINDINGS: Box users agreed or strongly agreed about the perceived advantages of the box system, including user-friendliness, lower theft risk, and increased dignity, confidentiality, compliance, and autonomy to self-manage medic

Personality and artificial light at night in a semi-urban songbird population: No evidence for personality-dependent sampling bias, avoidance or disruptive effects on sleep behaviour.

Light pollution or artificial light at night (ALAN) is an increasing, worldwide challenge that affects many aspects of animal behaviour. Interestingly, the response to ALAN varies widely among individuals within a population and variation in personality (consistent individual differences in behaviour) may be an important factor explaining this variation. Consistent individual differences in exploration behaviour in particular may relate to the response to ALAN, as increasing evidence indicates its relation with how individuals respond to novelty and how they cope with anthropogenic modificatio

A randomised controlled trial of mentalization-based treatment versus structured clinical management for patients with comorbid borderline personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder.

BACKGROUND: Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is an under-researched mental disorder. Systematic reviews and policy documents identify ASPD as a priority area for further treatment research because of the scarcity of available evidence to guide clinicians and policymakers; no intervention has been established as the treatment of choice for this disorder. Mentalization-based treatment (MBT) is a psychotherapeutic treatment which specifically targets the ability to recognise and understand the mental states of oneself and others, an ability shown to be compromised in people with ASPD. BACKGROUND: Despite the fact that new criteria of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders-fifth edition (DSM-5) were resulted from five-factor model (FFM), there is a small amount of studies that investigate the relations between proposed personality traits and FFM. Also, cross-cultural study in this field continuously would be needed. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relation between the FFM and DSM-5 ASPD pathological traits.
