In situ self-assembly synthesis of ZIF-8-poly(acrylamide-co-vinylimidazole)/sodium alginate composite hydrogel for Cu2+ removal.

Heavy metal ion pollution in wastewater, particularly Cu2+ contamination, threatens ecology and human health, demanding efficient adsorption materials in environmental remediation. However, conventional adsorbents suffer from insufficient capacity, poor mechanical stability, weak selectivity, and low reusability, restricting their practical application. Herein, a semi-interpenetrating network composite hydrogel (ZIF-8-AVA) was fabricated via in situ self-assembly, integrating ZIF-8 nanocrystals into a poly(acrylamide-co-vinylimidazole)/sodium alginate (AVA) matrix. Vinylimidazole units served

Wet Transfer of In Situ Grown Azo-Containing Two-Dimensional Conjugated Covalent Organic Framework Films for Photoswitchable Electronic Devices.

Two-dimensional π-conjugated covalent organic frameworks (2D π-COFs) combine in-plane π-delocalization with periodic open channels, making them versatile platforms for integrating functional groups into optoelectronic and neuromorphic systems. However, their predominant powder form has fundamentally constrained device integration and interfacial engineering. Herein, we demonstrate a general strategy for constructing high-quality transition-metal chalcogenide@2D π-COF van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs). Large-area, atomically flat 2D π-COF films are first grown on SiO2 substrates via a liqu

Frequency-programmable particle routing and separation via steerable SAWs from azimuthally tapered interdigital transducers.

This study presents a frequency-programmable, acoustofluidic particle routing and separation platform that enables frequency-dependent adjustment of the trajectories and destinations of micro- and submicrometer particles in continuous flows, thereby achieving outlet-switchable particle separation and on-demand switching of particle routing destinations. These capabilities arise from our platform's ability to steer traveling/standing surface acoustic waves (SAWs) via frequency tuning. To achieve these particle routing and separation and SAW control abilities, particularly, our platform employs

Wearable-Compatible Detection of Mild Cognitive Impairment Using Novel Features Based on Sleep Stage Dynamics.

Background: Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is an early stage of cognitive decline and a major risk factor for dementia, typically diagnosed using neuropsychological assessments such as memory and executive function tests. While EEG-based detection has been widely explored, most approaches rely on raw signal analysis and computationally intensive deep learning models. In contrast, wearable devices use indirect behavioral proxies (e.g., activity patterns or sleep-wake patterns), limiting diagnostic specificity. Although substantial clinical evidence indicates altered sleep architecture in MCI,

Harnessing hitchhikers: Outer membrane vesicles leading the way in advanced cancer therapeutics and diagnostic- A review.

Cancer therapy is increasingly shaped by delivery platforms designed to overcome the limitations of conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Among these, bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have emerged as versatile nanocarriers with intrinsic tumor-interacting properties, immunomodulatory capacity, and amenability to bioengineering. Their lipid bilayer composition not only enhances stability and cellular uptake but also intersects with tumor lipid metabolism-an axis increasingly recognized as central to oncogenesis, immune evasion, and therapeutic resistance. Here, we review mechanist

Prognostic implications of genetic and transcriptomic abnormalities in MDS according to IPSS-R, IPSS-M, and the International Consensus Classification.

Cytogenetic abnormalities and recurrent gene mutations are central to the biology and prognosis of myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS); however, the significance of patients without detectable genomic lesions remains unclear. In this retrospective analysis of 758 patients with primary MDS, the participants were stratified according to the presence of gene mutations and/or cytogenetic abnormalities. Approximately twenty percent lacked both abnormalities and were characterized by younger age, female predominance, lower IPSS-R/IPSS-M risk, and the most favorable survival outcomes. Bulk RNA

Piezoresistive and mechanical performance of nano-TiO₂-modified 3D-printed cementitious composites.

The integration of self-sensing functionality into 3D-printed cementitious materials presents a promising pathway toward intelligent infrastructure capable of real-time structural health monitoring. This study investigates the influence of nano-titanium dioxide (nano-TiO₂, NT) on the mechanical, electrical, and piezoresistive behaviour of both mould-cast and extrusion-based 3D-printed cementitious composites. NT was incorporated at 0-30% replacement levels (by binder weight) to evaluate its effects on flowability, compressive strength, flexural strength, electrical resistivity, and fractional

Thermochemical Polarization-Driven Heterolytic Hydrogenation in an Electrochemical Palladium-Membrane Reactor.

Heterolytic hydrogenation via hydride species transfer represents a fundamental transformation in industry for chemical synthesis, but H2 or organic hydride donors are often utilized as the hydrogen source. An electrochemical palladium (Pd) membrane reactor shows the ability to catalyze heterolytic reactions by using water as the hydrogen source, but quantitative descriptions of this reactivity remain absent, and the reaction often relies on external polarization of the chemical compartment. Herein, we report thermochemical polarization-driven heterolytic hydrogenation in an electrochemical Pd

The contribution of cross-modal sensory input to reaching and grasping in blind and sighted short-tailed opossums.

Reaching and grasping are essential goal-directed behaviors that require the integration of visual, olfactory, and somatosensory inputs. Although the loss of vision can profoundly disrupt sensory-guided behaviors, mammals often exhibit compensatory cross-modal plasticity allowing them to reach and grasp with ease. To examine how early sensory loss shapes reaching behavior, we performed bilateral enucleations in short-tailed opossums (Monodelphis domestica) at postnatal day 4, before retino-thalamic and thalamocortical connections have formed. We assessed performance in early blind (EB) and sig

Detecting sleep apnea using non-linear measures of heart rate variability.

BACKGROUND: Sleep apnea is highly prevalent yet frequently underdiagnosed due to the cost and complexity of polysomnography. Heart rate variability (HRV) offers a scalable alternative for early screening, but conventional HRV metrics often overlook the multi-scale autonomic disturbances characteristic of apnea. METHODS: We evaluated scale-dependent detrended fluctuation analysis (sDFA), which quantifies how heartbeat-interval correlations evolve across temporal scales, using RR-interval data from Sleep Heart Health Study ([Formula: see text]). The discriminative performance of sDFA was compare

Beyond the Inhaler: How Biologics, Phenotyping, and the Pursuit of Remission Are Redefining Airway Disease.

Airway disease management is undergoing a structural transformation. For decades, asthma was treated as a single condition with a stepwise escalation of inhaled therapies, an approach that left the most severe cases cycling through treatments misaligned with their underlying biology. Updated global guidelines from the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and ARIA-EAACI have shifted the field toward precision, biomarker-guided care. Central to this shift is the formal recognition of clinical remission as an achievable treatment goal, with real-world registry data now reporting on-treatment remis

Artificial Intelligence in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Hemostatic Decision-Making: Current Evidence, Clinical Implications and Implementation Barriers.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming gastrointestinal endoscopy by supporting lesion detection, lesion characterization, quality assessment, and clinical risk prediction. Hemostatic decision-making represents a particularly complex field for AI integration, as therapeutic decisions are often made rapidly in the presence of active bleeding, impaired visualization, unstable patients, and variable lesion accessibility. This review critically examines the current evidence for AI-assisted decision-making in gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic hemostasis, with emphasis on

From classroom to cleanroom: building a skilled cell and gene therapy workforce.

The demand for the CGT workforce exceeds the capacity of current training programs to produce professionals ready for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) operations and associated quality and regulatory requirements. Most academic programs build strong scientific foundations but do not consistently prepare learners for process development and disciplined practice within regulated quality systems, resulting in prolonged onboarding and variable early performance. This gap reflects not only the specialized operational demands of CGT, but also the fact that most universities are designed to provide

Motion-Aware Low-Power Wearable Photoplethysmography System with Metamaterial-Enhanced Wireless Telemetry.

In wireless photoplethysmography (PPG) systems, motion artifacts (MAs) and high-power consumption of PPG data acquisition are the critical bottlenecks. MAs induced by body movement during long-term wear significantly degrade PPG signal fidelity, thereby increasing post-processing power consumption. Although previous studies have investigated MA mitigation, power optimization, and wireless connectivity independently, their co-design and system-level integration remains largely unexplored. This paper presents a motion-controlled wearable (MCW) wireless PPG sensing system that features an autonom

Shared neurogenetic architecture links adolescent neurodevelopmental deviations to adult psychopathological procrastination.

While general procrastination is common, psychopathological procrastination, a debilitating phenotype often indicative of subclinical psychiatric conditions, remains poorly understood in terms of its neurobiological underpinning. Challenging its traditional conceptualization as a mere behavioral deficit, we investigated the neurogenetic architecture of psychopathological procrastination. Leveraging a prospective adolescent twin cohort (N = 71 twin pairs) with neuroanatomical imaging (baseline) and psychopathological procrastination phenotyping in young adulthood (8-year follow-up), we first es
