On the basis of a study of 54 specimens each of large-cell acanthoma, solar lentigo, reticulated seborrheic keratosis, and lichen planus-like keratosis, it is concluded that clinically, histopathologically, and biologically, large-cell acanthoma is a variant of solar lentigo, and solar lentigo (including the large-cell variant) is a stage in the evolution of reticulated seborrheic keratosis and of lichen planus-like keratosis.

A 48-year-old male patient with atypical tuberous myxedema Jadassohn-Dössekker, characterized by nodules on both upper legs with mucin deposits, is described. Atypical tuberous myxedema Jadassohn-Dössekker can be classified together with lichen myxedematosus and scleromyxedema Arndt-Gottron as normothyrotic myxodermia. It can be distinguished from lichen myxedematosus only by the size of the lesions. The pathogenesis is unknown.

Four patients are described who developed granulomatous reactions in the red portions of their tattoos. Histopathological and immunofluorescence studies showed features of lichen planus. Mercury was identified in only one patient's lesion, and hypersensitivity to mercury was shown by patch testing in one other patient. Tattooing may provide a localised antigenic challenge resulting in spontaneously occurring lichen planus.

Oral lichen planus is a chronic T cell mediated inflammatory condition with multifactorial etiology. Being autoimmune mediated condition, it has been associated with other autoimmune disorders. This case report discusses the possible presentation of oral lichen planus in hypothyroid patients as a marker of severity of the thyroid deficient status and the possible pathogenetic link between both the conditions.

We present a case of an 80 year old female who had previously been diagnosed with lichen planus of the tongue dorsum some 10 years previously. Due to a change in the appearance of the lesion a biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. We discuss this rare diagnosis in conjunction with the possibility of an association of squamous cell carcinoma and lichen planus.

Sixty-one percent of refractory vulvodynia patients evaluated in a tertiary care vulvovaginal clinic had clinically relevant dermatoses based on dermatopathologist-analyzed vulvar biopsy including: lichen sclerosus, allergic/irritant dermatitis, lichen planus, and other inflammatory or neoplastic dermatoses. Given the frequency of dermatologic disease, vulvar biopsy and analysis by a dermatopathologist are recommended in patients with vulvodynia.

We present 10 cases of well-differentiated, squamous cell carcinoma of the penis with pseudohyperplastic features. At presentation, the median age was 69 years. Seven of the tumors were multicentric, and the majority preferentially involved the foreskin inner mucosal surface. An unusual case of Acquired Total vulval synechia due to vulvar Lichen planus is reported in an 18-year-old girl, which is an extremely rare condition. Blaschkitis is an acquired, rare dermatitis that follows the lines of Blaschko. Many consider blaschkitis as a variant of lichen striatus, although authors felt that it is a separate entity. A 2½-year-old girl presented with multiple grouped papules along the lines of Blaschko on her trunk. The main differences to lichen striatus are illustrated. Our case supports the hypothesis that blaschkitis is an entity of its own.

The Koebner phenomenon originally described the appearance of psoriatic lesions in the uninvolved skin of patients with psoriasis as a consequence of trauma. We describe a case of concurrent lichen planus and sarcoidosis in the auditory canal, which represents an unusual manifestation of the Koebner phenomenon. This is the first case of concurrent lichen planus and sarcoidosis in the head and neck region and highlights the need for biopsy to allow accurate histopathological diagnosis and treatment.

Bullous and desquamative diseases of the oral mucosa are not common, with the exception of ulcerative lichen planus. All produce mild to severe mucosal pain and some can be life-threatening. Recent studies have helped elucidate the pathogenesis of immunopathologic diseases, although the precise etiology for most of them remains unknown. Minor and major aphthae, lichen planus, pemphigoid, pemphigus and erythema multiforme are discussed.
