Impact of Electron Beam Treatment and Storage Duration on Microbial Stability and Phytochemical Integrity in Hemp Flowers.

This study compared the effects of storage time and electron beam (EB) irradiation on microbial counts and chemical stability of dried flowers from two hemp cultivars over 12 weeks. Cannabinoid and terpene content, as well as microbial load, were evaluated at 0, 4, 8, and 12 weeks in EB-irradiated and non-irradiated samples. Microbial count in non-irradiated flowers reached up to 4.1 × 106 colony-forming units (CFU)/g; EB irradiation reduced these levels to <102 CFU/g. Cannabinoid contents were unaffected by EB irradiation and remained stable throughout storage. Terpene content decreased by 8.

Solvent Dependence of [Au11(BINAP)4X2: X = Cl or Br]+ Cluster Electronic and Optical Properties.

Complex cluster-solvent interactions were investigated for 11-metal-atom monolayer-protected gold nanoclusters dispersed in a variety of solvents. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), photoluminescence, and femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopies were employed to examine the effect of solvent identity on the photophysical properties of [Au11(BINAP)4X2]+, where X represents Cl or Br. UV-vis absorption spectra showed a narrowing of spectral peaks when the clusters were dispersed in protic solvents, indicating increased cluster rigidity in these solvents. Photoluminescence studies reveal

Tuning the electronic structure and SMSI by integrating trimetallic sites with defective ceria for the CO2 reduction reaction.

Heterogeneous catalysts have emerged as a potential key for closing the carbon cycle by converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added chemicals. In this work, we report a highly active and stable ceria (CeO2)-based electronically tuned trimetallic catalyst for CO2 to CO conversion. A unique distribution of electron density between the defective ceria support and the trimetallic nanoparticles (of Ni, Cu, Zn) was established by creating the strong metal support interaction (SMSI) between them. The catalyst showed CO productivity of 49,279 mmol g-1 h-1 at 650 °C. CO selectivity up to 99% and e

Evaluation of 134Ce/134La-PSMA-617 for PET Imaging and Auger Electron Therapy of Prostate Cancer.

The 134Ce/134La radionuclide pair has been proposed as a PET imaging surrogate for targeted α-radiotherapeutics. 134Ce decays to 134La via electron capture, emitting Auger electrons (AEs), which could be used for targeted radionuclide therapy. Additionally, the positron emission during this transition enables PET imaging, making 134Ce/134La a promising theranostic pair for prostate cancer. In this work, we investigated the potential of 134Ce for AE capture therapy using prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-617 for targeted radionuclide delivery. Methods: Radiolabeling of [134Ce]Ce-PSMA-61

Synthesis, Spectroscopic, Electronic and Molecular Docking Studies of Pyrazole Based Chalcones as Potential Anticancer Agents.

A series of pyrazole-based chalcone derivatives (DF1-DF6) were synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic (1H/13C NMR, FT-IR) and computational methods. NMR analysis in acetone-d6 revealed aromatic protons (7.0-8.1 ppm) and carbons (119-150 ppm), correlating well with DFT/B3LYP-D3/6-31G* calculations. FMO analysis showed energy gaps of 3.10-3.69 eV, with DF6 exhibiting the narrowest gap (3.11 eV) due to extended π-conjugation. TD-DFT predicted π→π* transitions (250-320 nm), where DF6 displayed the most red-shifted absorption (320.96 nm fo = 1.40). Global reactivity descriptors (ω = 4.03

Structure-Activity Relationship of the Linker Moiety in Photoinduced Electron Transfer-Driven Nitric Oxide Releasers.

Nitric oxide (NO) is involved in numerous physiological activities including vasodilation, neurotransmission, and immune system regulation. NO-releasing small compounds are used to investigate the physiological activity of NO and to treat circulatory diseases, such as hypertension and angina pectoris. Among them, light-controllable NO releasers (caged NOs) enable spatiotemporal control of NO's bioactivities. We previously reported NORD-1, a photoinduced electron transfer (PeT)-driven NO releaser that responds to red light. In the PeT-driven NO releasers, the NO release is triggered by photoind

Hierarchical Carbon Nanocage-Enabled Electron Buffering to Indium Oxide for Efficient CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol.

The hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol over In2O3-based catalysts is highly sensitive to the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies (Ov). While increasing the Ov concentration can enhance the catalytic performance, it also increases the risk of over-reduction during CO2 hydrogenation, leading to a trade-off between activity and stability. Here, we demonstrate that hierarchical carbon nanocages (hCNCs) act as effective "electron buffering agents" for In2O3, mitigating this trade-off and thereby enhancing the methanol yield, with nitrogen doping of hCNCs further amplifying this effect. Detailed

Application of convolutional neural networks in focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy image denoising.

Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy (FIB-SEM) technology is a crucial method for obtaining three-dimensional (3D) nanoscale digital rock images. However, due to surface topography or compositional differences in rock samples, "curtain noise" appears in FIB-SEM images, degrading their quality. Traditional image filtering and denoising methods can improve FIB-SEM image quality but are ineffective at fully removing "curtain noise". To address the issue, this paper proposes two Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for curtain noise denoising: U-Net: Convolutional Networks for Biomedical

Mechanistic insights into electronic modulation of binuclear iron-based zeolites for selective oxidation of methane to methanol.

Conceptually, direct methane-to-methanol (DMTM) conversion represents an efficient approach for methane (CH4) valorization, which is thermodynamically feasible at ambient temperature. However, this process consistently faces a conversion-selectivity trade-off. Particularly, when employing dioxygen (O2) as the oxidizing agent, an additional compromise arises between O2 activation and the generation of reactive oxygen species necessary for CH4 activation. Enzyme-like iron-based zeolites are regarded as promising catalysts for DMTM. We investigated possible iron clusters in ZSM-5 based on ab init

Precursor sticking coefficient determination from indented deposits fabricated by electron beam induced deposition.

A fast simulation approach for focused electron beam induced deposition (FEBID) numerically solves the diffusion-reaction equation (continuum model) of the precursor surface on the growing nanostructure in conjunction with a Monte Carlo simulation for electron transport in the growing deposit. An important requirement in this regard is to have access to a methodology that can be used to systematically determine the values for the set of precursor parameters needed for this model. In this work we introduce such a method to derive the precursor sticking coefficient as one member of the precursor

A New Set of Aromaticity Descriptors Based on the Electron Density Employing the Distributed Multipole Analysis (DMA).

Aromatic compounds are energetically stable and have low reactivity, but an aromaticity concept is difficult to establish because it cannot be measured. For this reason, different descriptors have been developed to rationalize and quantify this phenomenon. Given that cyclic electron delocalization is an essential property of aromatic compounds, in this work, we propose six new aromatic descriptors based on Stone's distributed multipole analysis (DMA) to partition the molecular electron density into electric multipoles localized on different sites of a molecule. The new aromatic descriptors are

Solvent Effects on the Formation of Ground-State Twisted Intermediate during Electronic Relaxation of Pyrimidine Nucleobases.

This study investigates solvent effects on the formation of ground-state twisted intermediates recently found in the electronic relaxation of uracil and thymine [Obara et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2025, 147, 15077]. We newly identify a similar reaction intermediate characterized by a twisted C5═C6 bond for aqueous cytidine, establishing a structural motif common to all pyrimidine nucleobases and their derivatives. Unlike uracil and thymine, the cytidine intermediate lacks a blue-shifted band in its IR spectrum associated with C═O stretching, precluding its identification using the same spectral c

Utility of Volatile Organic Compounds and Electronic Nose Technology for Breast Cancer Detection: A Systematic Review.

UNLABELLED: Breast cancer is a leading cause of mortality in women worldwide, primarily due to challenges in early detection and limited access to timely treatment. While mammography is widely used, it may produce false positives and lead to overdiagnosis. Recent advancements suggest that electronic nose technology, based on the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), may offer a complementary non-invasive approach to breast cancer screening. This systematic review evaluates current detection methods and explores the feasibility and diagnostic value of the electronic nose, assessing it
