The frequency of penetration into the third extensor compartment when drilling the distal screw holes was assessed for four different palmar distal radius plates in 160 cadaver forearms. Penetration into this compartment occurred in 43%. Different plates had different penetration rates: 3.5 LCP four-hole locking T-plate: 20%, 3.5 LCP three-hole locking plate: 42.5%, 2.4 palmar LCP standard plate and the 2.4 palmar LCP buttress plate: 55%. When using a palmar plate on the distal radius, the surgeon risks penetrating into the third extensor compartment.

Restless legs syndrome is a common condition that results in difficulties falling and staying asleep and perception of poor sleep quality. We report a case of a 73-year-old woman with uncontrolled restless legs syndrome who spent most of the night standing and walking. As a result of her nighttime behaviors, she fell several times and sustained, on several separate occasions, fractures of both forearms, ribs, and nose. The authors describe the time course of some biochemical and hemodynamic parameters in patients suffering from cervical osteochondrosis with neurological symptoms treated by electrophoresis of papaverine and nicotinic acid with sinusoidal modulated and diadynamic currents. Retrospective evaluation of 26 patients with progressive systemic sclerosis and diffuse scleroderma who were treated with D-penicillamine for periods of 6-50 months (average = 19 months) revealed a reduction in skin thickening, which was confirmed in 7 cases by a diminution in the weight of skin biopsy cores obtained from the forearm before and after therapy. The palmaris tendon may be lengthened by a distal strip of palmar fascia and transferred subcutaneously to the tendon of insertion of the abductor pollicis brevis for augmentation of thumbs elevation from the palm. BACKGROUND: Systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune disease with no approved skin-directed therapies. The modified Rodnan skin score (mRSS) is the standard measure of skin involvement in systemic sclerosis, but it has limitations.
