I don't want to think about it: a qualitative study of children (6-18 years) with rheumatic diseases and parents' experiences with regular needle injections at home.

BACKGROUND: Overall outcomes of pediatric rheumatic diseases (RD) have improved due to treatment with biologic agents and methotrexate. For many children, this treatment often entails regular needle injections. Pain and fear of needle injections are common in childhood, but how children and parents handle long-term needle injections at home has not been fully explored. This study aimed to explore how regular needle injections affect children with RD and their parents in their daily living. METHODS: This explorative qualitative study used individual interviews and focus groups to ensure a comp

A community-driven resource for genomic epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance prediction of Neisseria gonorrhoeae at Pathogenwatch.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) Neisseria gonorrhoeae is an urgent threat to public health, as strains resistant to at least one of the two last-line antibiotics used in empiric therapy of gonorrhoea, ceftriaxone and azithromycin, have spread internationally. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) data can be used to identify new AMR clones and transmission networks and inform the development of point-of-care tests for antimicrobial susceptibility, novel antimicrobials and vaccines. Community-driven tools that provide an easy access to and analysis of genomic and epidemiological data is the w

Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenitis: clinical manifestations, response to steroids, and a practice of online diagnosis and follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome, although not rare, is frequently underdiagnosed. This might be related to the fact that some primary care physicians are not familiar with this syndrome. With the application of network technology, internet tools may also be used for remote diagnosis and follow-up of PFAPA. Herein, we present our experience regarding online diagnosis and management, and provide a more detailed clinical profile of PFAPA in children. METHODS: All children with long-standing recurrent fever, including those seen at our h

Latent profiles of person's core characteristics related to Internet gaming disorder symptoms among college students: The mediating role of aggression.

BACKGROUND: The I-PACE model identifies person's core characteristics as key antecedents of Internet Gaming Disorder symptoms (IGDs). However, person-centered research profiling these multidimensional indicators and their underlying mechanisms concerning IGDs remains limited. Using a large-sample cross-sectional design, and based on 13 core indicators across four domains from the I-PACE model, this study employed Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) to profile the person's core characteristics of Chinese college students, examining profile differences in IGDs and the mediating role of aggression. Travel barriers to amyloid-targeting infusion access among older adults.

INTRODUCTION: Amyloid-targeting treatments (ATT) for Alzheimer's disease require regular infusions and caregiver accompaniment for approximately 80% of patients. Travel time to infusion sites and caregiver availability can therefore impede access to care, especially in rural and lower income populations. METHODS: We conducted a survey in a nationally representative Internet panel with more than 2300 adults aged ≥65 years to estimate willingness to travel for bi-weekly infusion treatment, and access to an accompanying caregiver. Addresses of respondents and infusion sites were geocoded and dri

A qualitative study of digital CBT for veteran depression: Treatment experiences and recommendations for healthcare system integration.

Depression affects over one-third of US military veterans, yet substantial barriers impede access to evidence-based psychotherapy. Internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) offers promise for addressing treatment gaps, but no research has examined veteran experiences with fully self-guided digital interventions. This qualitative study explored how veterans with depressive symptoms engaged with Deprexis, a self-guided iCBT program, to inform strategic implementation within Veterans Health Administration (VHA) care systems. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 veterans

Empowerment at the Core: Decoding the Determinants of Skilled Birth Attendance in Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: The maintenance of hygienic conditions and the provision of appropriate medical care during childbirth are essential to reduce the complications and infections that pose health risks to both expectant mothers and their newborn babies. Although skilled birth attendance (SBA) has been very much helpful in reducing the biological risks linked to childbirth, it is pertinent to mention that more than 34% of deliveries in Pakistan continue to take place at home without the proper medical care and supervision. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this proposed work is to explore the correlat

Experiences and actions taken by women to address delayed conception in Delhi, India: A qualitative study.

One in six people experiences infertility in their lifetime globally, including India. Understanding experiences and actions taken by people with delayed conception requires developing person-centred fertility care interventions. We applied the theory of planned behaviour to explore the experiences and actions of women in couples that failed to conceive in low to lower middle-income neighbourhoods of Delhi, India. This was a qualitative study among 35 women who had failed to conceive after 18 months. Data were collected between February and July 2021 through focus group discussions. Deductive

Practice effects as a dynamic biomarker of early cognitive change in far-from-onset Huntington's disease.

Although cognitive performance typically appears preserved in far-from-onset Huntingtin Gene Expansion Carriers (HGECs), underlying neuropsychological mechanisms may be subtly altered and remain undetected. Practice effects from repeated task exposure provide a sensitive measure of cognitive adaptability, with early disruptions signalling reduced neural efficiency before standard deficits emerge. This study aimed to examine longitudinal practice effects across annual neuropsychological testing in far-from-onset HGECs and to identify the disease burden threshold where these patterns diverge. Rapid Review of Literature Reporting the Experience of Patient and Public Involvement in Prison and Forensic Mental Health Research.

Health research authorities around the world are increasingly committed to embedding public involvement in health and social care research. However, such involvement in internationally published prison and forensic mental health research remains rare. It is therefore particularly important to understand how people are experiencing collaborative research in this field, barriers they may encounter and how these might be overcome. The aim of this review is to explore how academic, practitioner and lived-experience researchers have experienced collaborating on prison and forensic mental health res
