Propolis is a potent antioxidant and a free radical scavenger. The present study aimed to investigate protective effects of propolis extract on cadmium-induced testicular damage, apoptosis, HIF-1α expression and toxicity in rat's testis tissue. PROBLEM: We investigated whether changes in sCD40L, hs-CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α levels are associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
METHOD OF STUDY: Case-control study involving 143 women with and 165 women without PCOS.
RESULT(S): Reduced sCD40L, and increased hs-CRP and IL-6, but not TNF-α, levels were seen between cases and controls. ROC analysis demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for sCD40L and hs-CRP as PCOS predictors. Altered sCD40L levels were associated with PCOS, irrespective of body weight. HISTORY AND ADMISSION FINDINGS: We report on a 44-year-old patient with type 1 diabetes who suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea for 10 days as well as episodes of recurrent hypoglycaemia with reduced insulin requirements. BACKGROUND: Onset of puberty in boys usually occurs by 14 years of age. Some boys may exhibit delayed sexual maturation till about 17-18 years of age. However, pubertal onset beyond 18 years of age is exceedingly rare.

BACKGROUND: Cancer can lead to weight loss, anorexia, and poor nutritional status, which are associated with decreased survival in cancer patients.
METHODS: Male cancer patients (n = 136) were followed for a mean time of 4.5 years. Variables were obtained at baseline: cancer stage, albumin, hemoglobin, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6, bioavailable testosterone, appetite questionnaire, and weight change from baseline to 18 months. Primary statistical tests included Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazard regression (PHREG).

UNLABELLED: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by hyperandrogenism, oligo/anovulation and is associated with risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, such as insulin resistance and central adiposity. The aim of the study was to evaluation of influence of the oral contraceptive pill on the endocrinologic and metabolic parameters in women with PCOS.
MATERIAL & METHODS: Forty nine PCOS women (aged 23,9 +/- 3,5 [mean +/- SD]) without any other diseases were included into the study. Oral contraceptives (0,02 mg ethynylestradiol + 0,15 mg desogestrel) were administered for 6 months.

AIM: To investigate the effect of Morinda lucida Benth (Rubiaceae) on the reproductive activity of male albino rats.
