An Andersen sampler was used to collect different sized fractions of airborne dust within pigeon lofts. Antigens associated with pigeon breeders' lung were then measured using an ELISA technique. Levels of soluble antigen in the 0.5-5 microns range correlated significantly with airborne particle concentrations in the same range, determined by particle size analysis. A prospective study evaluating preoperative prognostic indicators in 80 cattle with abomasal volvulus was done. Surgical correction of the abomasal volvulus was performed in all animals. After surgery, cattle were categorized into 3 groups: productive (acceptable milk production or appetite, n = 59), salvaged (poor milk production or appetite, n = 10), and nonsurvivors (n = 11). Mean values for study variables did not differ significantly between salvaged and nonsurvivor groups. Cattle in these 2 groups were combined to form a nonproductive group, which was compared with the productive group.

In May 1983, a surveillance system was set up at a rural diarrhoea treatment centre of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) to study a 20% systematic sample of all admissions. The worldwide consequences of this therapy are discussed in four categories: (1) adoption of ORT as the primary therapy for acute dehydrating diarrhea; (2) establishment of national ORT programs; (3) scientific knowledge gained from studies into intestinal absorption of oral rehydration solutions; and (4) implications of ORT for the next decade. Relative polycythaemia is a general term which includes patients with a normal red cell mass but a contraction of the plasma volume as the cause for the polycythaemia. The relative polycythaemias can broadly be divided into two groups. Firstly, relative polycythaemia may be due to a primary loss of plasma volume due to dehydration, capillary leak or hypo-oncotic pressure. Secondly, relative polycythaemia may be due to a primary contraction of the vascular compartment (i.e. reduced venous compliance). To investigate the hemostatic mechanism of local ethanol injection, ethanol was injected into the gastric mucosa of five adult mongrel dogs and one guinea pig and histologic changes at acute and healing stages were followed. The neoplastic cells from seven patients with childhood lymphoblastic lymphoma were studied for cell surface markers and surface morphology in the scanning electron microscope (SEM).
