BACKGROUND: The nosocomial occurrence of mycotic infections negatively affects results of the neonatal care in newborns in the sense of their increased mortality and morbidity.
AIM: The communication presented here is focused on an analysis of predisposing factors and clinical patterns of infections induced with mucormycosis strains. The authors provided an analysis of six case reports concerning newborns that died in association with nosocomial infections, where mucormycosis strains were microbiologically and microscopically detected in autopsy.

The popularity and success of laparoscopic biliary tract surgery have persuaded surgeons to explore other applications for rigid endoscopic surgery. From July 1990 to February 1993 a total of 65 patients (mean age 57 years; range 41-82) underwent attempted laparoscopic colon resection. To determine the difference in the bowel care of spinal cord injury patients before and after enterostomy, we interviewed 20 patients--19 men and one woman. Their ages were 27-75, median 55 years. The paralytic lesions were spastic in ten and flaccid in ten. Determination was made of in situ gastric pH during early morning in fasting state (basal pH) by using wired glass electrodes, and results obtained were analyzed.
