Effort perception and endurance running performance following prefrontal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS): a randomized crossover-controlled trial.

The ergogenic potential of stimulating the prefrontal cortex with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for running endurance remains unclear. This randomized, sham-controlled crossover trial evaluated the effects of bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) tDCS on running time to exhaustion (TTE) and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) in endurance-trained men. Fifty-three participants (age: 22 ± 2 years; maximal oxygen consumption: 50.3 ± 6.4 mL/min/kg) completed two stimulation sessions in randomized order, separated by one week: 20 min of active or sham multichannel tDCS (

Trust formation and fairness perception in GenAI: the divergent psychological pathways of computer science and business-related students.

BACKGROUND: The rapid proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in higher education raises critical concerns regarding educational equity. However, the psychological mechanisms linking algorithmic characteristics to students' perceptions of fairness remain underexplored. Integrating fairness heuristic theory, privacy calculus theory, and the technology acceptance model, this study examines how GenAI attributes influence perceived educational fairness and explores differences between computer science students and students in selected business-related majors. METHODS: Survey d

The Influence of Social Relationships on Third-Party Punishment: The Roles of Relationship Type Congruence and Threat Perception.

Third-party punishment involves bystanders voluntarily incurring costs to punish norm violators, thereby maintaining social norms and cooperation. While prior research shows reduced punishment when the bystander and violator are friends, less is known about how the violator-victim relationship affects such punishment. Based on deterrence theory, punishment serves both to sanction violations and deter future threats. Accordingly, using the Dictator Game-third-party punishment paradigm across five experiments with a primary adult sample, this study investigated the impact of social relationships

Dissociation between implicit and explicit gaze perception and their metacognitive representations scales with the degree of autistic traits.

Gaze perception is crucial for inferring others' attentional state. However, it remains understudied whether implicit (automatic) and explicit (deliberate) gaze perception rely on distinct underlying mechanisms and whether these are affected by autistic traits. We used the same real-life images with an actor being surrounded by objects for two separate tasks: Participants either identified the object the actor was gazing at (explicit task) or were instructed to detect a cued object, with the actor's gaze being task-irrelevant (implicit task). Our findings demonstrate that implicit and explicit

HFC-UAVDet: Lightweight small object detection network for UAV with high-frequency perception and cross-layer semantic fusion.

In aerial images, visible light images are susceptible to interference from complex backgrounds, while infrared images exhibit weak texture and low contrast due to their imaging mechanism. Furthermore, targets in both image types commonly share characteristics such as small scale and sparse features, making it challenging for lightweight detection models to strike a balance between accuracy and efficiency. To address this, we propose HFC-UAVDet-a lightweight small object detection network for UAVs that integrates high-frequency perception with cross-layer semantic fusion. First, the CHFB modul

Safety-aware transformer-enhanced unified multi-task perception for road anomaly detection, drivable area segmentation and lane estimation.

The developing countries with unstructured road conditions like in India present considerable challenges to autonomous driving systems. The challenges arise from the presence of road anomalies (potholes, waterlogging, cracks) along with unclear lane markings and mixed traffic participants(pedestrians, cars, bikes, autorickshaws), which demand an efficient perception system. To address these challenges, a Safety Aware Multitask Perception model for Indian roads has been proposed that jointly performs object detection, drivable area segmentation and lane line segmentation. The model adapts a lig

A pushing stick or a pulled rubber band: Material perception reverses the causal arrow in agent-patient dynamics.

People effortlessly recognize objects of various materials and predict their behavior from visual information. However, research on causal perception has largely underexplored dynamic interactions involving nonrigid objects, often treating spatiotemporal causality as independent of object properties. To address this gap, we introduce a novel causal perception phenomenon in which speed profiles alone evoke the perception of elastic, nonrigid motion in interactions between simple geometric figures, ultimately shaping causal perception. Using an ambiguous-motion stimulus involving a separation ev

From prediction to control: Age-related dissociations between implicit regularity encoding and attentional modulation during perception-action integration.

Adolescence is a key period for the maturation of cognitive control, yet it remains unclear how developing brains transform learned regularities into flexible, goal-directed behavior. This study examined whether (pre-)adolescents can exploit the predictability of task-irrelevant information to improve perception-action integration. Using a distractor-response binding paradigm with varying predictability and EEG recording, we compared behavioral and neural indices between (pre-)adolescents (N = 35) and adults (N = 33). Behaviorally, adults-but not (pre-)adolescents-benefited from high predictab

Spatial-Semantic Attention Network With Adaptive Similarity Perception and Memory for Efficient Zero-Shot Object-Goal Visual Navigation.

This article investigates efficient zero-shot object-goal visual navigation, where an agent localizes unseen targets in novel environments using only visual observations and target representations. Existing methods suffer from an inability to establish a unified visual representation, leading to complex and inefficient spatial-semantic joint matching. Moreover, current visual navigation frameworks, typically divided into Visual Perception and Policy Learning stages, fail to effectively leverage historical visual features, resulting in a weak connection between perception and decision-making. Impact of tongue-palate squeezing on texture perception, oral processing, and bolus properties in hydrocolloid-enriched mashed potato.

Texture critically drives food acceptance or rejection, with oral processing varying widely among individuals and influencing dynamic perception and bolus formation. Adaptive strategies like tongue-palate squeezing often replace chewing in populations with masticatory or swallowing challenges (e.g., tooth loss, sarcopenia, xerostomia), yet their impact on texture perception, muscle activity, and bolus properties remain poorly evaluated, particularly in comparison to traditional chewing. This study compared chewing versus squeezing effects on texture perception, processing parameters (oro-expos

Potential modulation of pain perception in animal models of acute sleep deprivation: implications of different stress response mechanisms.

Sleep deprivation is a common phenomenon in modern society and can influence pain perception. However, inconsistencies have emerged in mechanistic studies investigating this relationship. We hypothesize that these discrepancies may stem from the use of different animal models of sleep deprivation. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of three commonly used and one newly improved sleep deprivation paradigms on pain responses and explored the underlying mechanisms contributing to their different effects. Our findings revealed that distinct sleep deprivation paradigms exert varying effects on pain

Motion perception and eye movements predict reading readiness: Evidence from pre-readers in an action video game task.

Developmental dyslexia (DD) is associated with deficits in visual motion perception and eye movement control, yet little is known about these processes at the pre-reading stage. We investigated motion perception and eye movement behavior in thirty-four pre-reading children (aged 4-6 years) during action video game Fruit Ninja (FN) play and rapid automatized naming (RAN) performance. FN and RAN scores were significantly correlated (r = 0.54, p = 0.001), suggesting a link between motion perception and object naming ability. While peripheral vision enabled faster fruit slicing (t = 11.28, p < 0.0
