YOLOv11-Based quantification and temporal analysis of repetitive behaviors in deer mice.

Detailed temporal dynamics of deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus bairdii) behavior remain poorly characterized. This study presents an integrated automated system combining YOLOv11 deep learning for direct behavior classification, post-processing for bout reconstruction, and a comprehensive temporal analysis suite tailored for deer mice. YOLOv11 performs frame-by-frame classification of key whole-body behaviors (e.g., Exploration, Grooming, Rearing types) using bounding boxes, bypassing initial kinematic feature engineering. This methodology facilitates objective, high-throughput quantificatio

Dimensional crossover of thermal transport in oligomer aqueous solutions: From three-dimensional to quasi-one-dimensional behavior.

We investigated thermal transport in aqueous solutions containing short amphiphilic and purely hydrophilic oligomers using hybrid molecular dynamics and multiparticle collision dynamics simulations. By systematically varying the simulation box length, we observed a dimensional crossover from three-dimensional to quasi-one-dimensional behavior, accompanied by a nonlinear increase in thermal conductivity. This transition was characterized by deviations from theoretical temperature profiles and a prolonged decay of heat flux autocorrelation functions, indicating the emergence of anomalous thermal

Development and Implementation of a Defect Detection Model for Microstructures Using Image Processing Methods.

The aim of this research is to develop and implement artificial intelligence models for the automatic detection of defects in the microstructures of austempered ductile iron (ADI). Our research used three different approaches, representing various categories of machine learning tasks: image classification (ResNet), pixel-wise segmentation (UNet), and object detection (YOLO). Each of the models were adapted to the specific characteristics of the dataset and tested on a collection of microstructural images prepared within the scope of the research. The data preparation process included clusterin

Multi-Scale Deformable Transformer with Iterative Query Refinement for Hot-Rolled Steel Surface Defect Detection.

Accurate and efficient detection of small and complex surface defects on hot-rolled steel plates remains a significant challenge in industrial quality assurance. Current deep learning detectors often exhibit limitations in detection accuracy and training convergence speed, particularly for small objects, which limits their practical deployment in real-time industrial inspection systems. To overcome these deficiencies, this paper proposes a multi-scale deformable transformer iterative query refinement network (MDT-Net). MDT integrates three key innovations: a Swin Transformer backbone for robus

SINDy-RL for interpretable and efficient model-based reinforcement learning.

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has shown significant promise for uncovering sophisticated control policies that interact in complex environments, such as stabilizing a tokamak fusion reactor or minimizing the drag force on an object in a fluid flow. However, DRL requires an abundance of training examples and may become prohibitively expensive for many applications. In addition, the reliance on deep neural networks often results in an uninterpretable, black-box policy that may be too computationally expensive to use with certain embedded systems. Recent advances in sparse dictionary learning

M3OT: A Multi-Drone Multi-Modality dataset for Multi-Object Tracking.

We provide a dataset for object detection and tracking in aerial imagery, namely "M3OT". M3OT is a multi-modality vehicle detection and tracking dataset acquired by two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in a high-altitude region, consisting both RGB and infrared thermal (IR) modalities, ranging from 100 m to 120 m. Owing to the high-altitude acquisition, the annotated objects in the dataset are predominantly small objects, which poses significant challenges for detection and tracking algorithms. The dataset comprises 21,580 frames extracted from 8-hour videos, including 10,790 paired RGB-IR imag

SD-YOLO: a lightweight model for small target defect detection in complex environments of lithium batteries in new energy vehicles.

Lithium batteries are pivotal in new energy vehicle (NEV) applications. This study proposes a novel defect detection model, Small-object Detection-YOLO (SD-YOLO), based on YOLOv11, to overcome the limitations of conventional methods in detecting small surface defects in lithium batteries, particularly addressing the challenge of high miss rates for low-contrast targets. The Similarity-Aware Activation Module (SimAM) is integrated into the backbone, enabling the model to prioritize small-scale defects and enhance feature extraction. The C3k2 GhostDynamicConv module is introduced to replace conv

CEHD: A Unified Framework for Detection and Height Estimation of Fresh Corn Ears in Field Conditions.

Real-time detection of fresh corn ear height can provide a basis for dynamic adjustment of harvester header parameters, reducing mechanical damage and improving harvest quality. This study proposes a corn ear height detection model (CEHD). A YOLO-HAMDF network is developed for ear recognition, in which the core modules-TBDA, GLSA, and AQE-respectively suppress background interference, enhance contextual perception, and optimize bounding-box scoring. Depth information is incorporated to filter non-target regions and improve system robustness. In addition, a DI-DeepSORT module is designed for ea

Identification of a Novel Substrate for eEF2K and the AURKA-SOX8 as the Related Pathway in TNBC.

Eukaryotic elongation factor 2 kinase (eEF2K) has been considered as a putative target for cancer therapy; however, the underlying mechanisms of eEF2K in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, it is shown that eEF2K is highly expressed in TNBC and is associated with poor prognosis. In vitro, in vivo, and patient-derived organoid experiments demonstrate that knockdown of eEF2K significantly impedes progression of TNBC. Proteomic analysis and confirmation experiments reveal that eEF2K positively regulates the mRNA and protein expressions of

Capturing Strong Correlation in Molecules with Phaseless Auxiliary-Field Quantum Monte Carlo Using Generalized Hartree-Fock Trial Wave Functions.

Generalized Hartree-Fock (GHF) is a long-established electronic structure method that can lower the energy (compared to spin-restricted variants) by breaking physical wave function symmetries, namely S^2 and S^z. After an exposition of GHF theory, we assess the use of GHF trial wave functions in phaseless auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo (ph-AFQMC-G) calculations of strongly correlated molecular systems including symmetrically stretched hydrogen rings, carbon dioxide, and dioxygen. Imaginary time propagation is able to restore S^2 symmetry and yields energies of comparable or better accurac

Targeting the histone reader ZMYND8 inhibits antiandrogen-induced neuroendocrine tumor transdifferentiation of prostate cancer.

The transdifferentiation from adenocarcinoma to neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) in men confers antiandrogen therapy resistance. Here our analysis combining CRISPR‒Cas9 screening with single-cell RNA sequencing tracking of tumor transition demonstrated that antiandrogen-induced zinc finger MYND-type containing 8 (ZMYND8)-dependent epigenetic programming orchestrates NEPC transdifferentiation. Ablation of Zmynd8 prevents NEPC development, while ZMYND8 upregulation mediated by achaete-scute homolog 1 promotes NEPC differentiation. We show that forkhead box protein M1 (FOXM1) stabilizes ZMYN

Green solvent extraction of health boosting phenolics from pigeon pea husk.

The optimization of phenolic compound extraction from pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan L.) husk was explored by manipulating three key process variables: aqueous ethanol concentration (20-60% v/v), extraction temperature (30-60 °C), and extraction time (2-6 h). Utilizing a Box-Behnken design under Response Surface Methodology (RSM), we meticulously optimized these variables to maximize extract yield, total phenolic content, and DPPH radical scavenging activity. The ideal extraction conditions determined via desirability function analysis were found to be 41.83% (v/v) ethanol concentration, 59.36 °C e

Application of AQbD principles on the development of a stability-indicating HPLC method for the determination of acetylsalicylic acid, ramipril and atorvastatin in their fixed-dose polypills.

In this study, an analytical quality by design approach was proposed for the development of a stability-indicating HPLC method for the determination of acetylsalicylic acid, ramipril and atorvastatin in their fixed-dose polypills. The structures, retention and the forced degradation studies of each drug served as useful prior knowledge. Using risk assessment and screen design, three critical method parameters (buffer pH, gradient slope and % CH3OH initial content) were defined and optimized using a Box-Behnken response surface methodology. The stability-indicating features of the proposed meth

NINJ1-mediated plasma membrane rupture of pyroptotic endothelial cells exacerbates blood-brain barrier destruction caused by neutrophil extracellular traps in traumatic brain injury.

Brain endothelial cell (bEC) dysfunction is the main factor of blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown, which triggers a vicious cycle of aggravating traumatic brain injury (TBI) pathogenesis. Previous studies have revealed that neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) released by neutrophils can lead to BBB disruption, but there is a lack of research on the underlying mechanisms after TBI. Here, excessive NETs were found in both contused brain tissue and circulation following TBI. We found that NETs could activate the TLR4/NF-κB pathway to induce bEC pyroptosis, which led to BBB disruption after TBI

Structural characterization and prebiotic activity of oligosaccharides derived from sesame meal produced by different oil extraction methods.

Sesame meal, the primary by-product of the sesame oil industry, still lacks high-value utilization. In this study, oligosaccharides (ORPM, OCPM, OSEM, OSPEM) were extracted from sesame meal produced by roasting-pressing, cold-pressing, solvent extraction, and subcritical propane extraction, respectively. A three-level and three-factor Box-Behnken design (BBD) integrated with response surface methodology (RSM) was adopted for the optimization of extraction parameters, including ethanol concentration, liquid-solid ratio, and ultrasonic-assisted extraction time. Comparison of Antioxidant Effects of 3-Hydroxybutyrate and Sodium 3-Hydroxybutyrate Through SIRT3/FOXO3A Pathway: Implications for In Vitro and In Vivo Research.

3-hydroxybutyrate (3HBH) and sodium 3HBH (3HBNa) have been used in many studies, leading to confusion about their roles. The present study aimed to compare the antioxidant effects of 3HBH and 3HBNa. The CCK8 was used to assess the antioxidant effect of 3HBH and 3HBNa on H2O2-induced BV2 cells. Total-glutathione (T-GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were measured. Apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry. Western blot and RT-qPCR were used to detect the protein and mRNA expression levels of BCL-2, BAX, CASPASE-3, SIRT3, and FOXO3A. Blood ketone concentrations

A PSAT1 buff of YBX1 transcriptionally sustains HLA-E-mediated evasion of NK immunity.

Despite great success in certain cancers, immunotherapy made little progress in treating immune cold tumors, largely attributed to an immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment with elusive mechanisms. Here, we report in prostate cancer cells a positive feedback loop driven by phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) that could be targeted to render effective cytotherapy by natural killer (NK) cells. In the loop, PSAT1 increases Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1) phosphorylation by microtubule affinity-regulating kinase 2, promoting its nuclear translocation to upregulate PSAT1 transcription. Meanw

Sex-specific regulation of microglial MyD88 in HMGB1-Induced anxiety phenotype in mice.

Stress is a significant risk factor for the development and recurrence of anxiety disorders. Stress can profoundly impact the immune system, and lead to microglial functional alterations in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), a brain region involved in the pathogenesis of anxiety. High mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) is a potent pro-inflammatory stimulus and danger-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) released from neuronal and non-neuronal cells following stress. HMGB1 provokes pro-inflammatory responses in the brain and, when administered locally, alters behavior in the absence of other

Impact of action observation therapy on motor and cognitive outcomes in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: a randomized controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) affects both cognitive and motor function, increasing the risk of immobility, falls, and compromising independence. The aim of this study is to determine whether implementing Action Observation Therapy (AOT) in a population with MCI would yield positive outcomes in cognitive status, in activities of daily living (ADLs), upper limb (UL) functionality, gait and balance, and if these results differ based on the observation modality employed. METHODS: Thirty participants, aged 65 and above with MCI, were assigned to three groups: therapist observation g

FBXO24 targets SLC25A26 for K6-linked polyubiquitylation to maintain mitochondrial function during spermiogenesis.

Asthenozoospermia is one of the major causes of male infertility, typically resulting from malformed flagella and dysfunctional mitochondria. However, the pathogenic mechanisms underlying asthenozoospermia remain unclear. Here, we show that FBXO24, a F-box protein within the SCF E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, is required for maintaining mitochondrial function and ATP production during spermiogenesis. Using Fbxo24 knockout mice, we demonstrate that the depletion of FBXO24 leads to male infertility due to a malformed sperm head and severe motility defects. The decreased motility resulted from dysf
