Principles, objectives and methods for the control of the gastro-intestinal parasites of pigs in France.

Parasitic levels are considered in relation to the size of farms and according to the application of anthelminitic programmes and the age groups of the animals. The most common and important parasites in France against which systematic control measures should be taken are Oesophagostomum, Ascaris and Hyostrongylus in pregnant sows, and Oesophagostomum and Ascaris in piglets at weaning and fattening pigs. Strongyloides and Trichuris are found occasionally but could be sometimes important (Mestastrongylus is anexceptional finding). As regards the use of anthelmintics, emphasis is placed on treat

Effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on plasma homocysteine levels in Indian population with chronic periodontitis: a pilot study.

AIM: Homocysteine (Hcy) is implicated in the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The effect of periodontal disease and periodontal therapy on plasma Hcy remains controversial. Hence, in this pilot study we assessed the effect of periodontal disease and non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on plasma Hcy in systemically healthy Indian subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty participants (30 to 39 years) were enrolled in the study and were divided into two groups based on gingival index, probing depth, and clinical attachment level (CAL): Healthy (control group; n = 20) and Chronic P

Household-level indicators overestimate sanitation coverage by masking within-household differences in practices and facility quality across 14 countries.

Accurate measurement of sanitation access is essential for tracking progress toward universal sanitation under the Sustainable Development Goals, yet current indicators focus on household-level access and rarely capture how sanitation is used within households or facility quality. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 36,860 rural households in 14 low- and middle-income countries, assessing differences in open defecation practices among household members and sanitation facility quality. Heads of household reported where adult men, adult women, boys, and girls usually defecated, while enumer

Menstrual product preference and factors associated with use of freely-distributed reusable products among secondary students in Uganda: a longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Access to menstrual products is a key factor for improving menstrual health, but there is limited research on the facilitators and barriers to their uptake and use. We describe menstrual product use, and factors associated with use of freely-distributed reusable pads and menstrual cups among female students in Ugandan secondary schools. METHODS: We analysed one-year follow-up data nested within a cluster-randomised trial evaluating the effectiveness of a multi-component menstrual health intervention among female students in 60 schools. The intervention included provision of five

Oral health-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices among high school students in Robe Town, Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Oral health is crucial for overall well-being and quality of life. Poor hygiene can lead to dental issues like cavities, gum disease, and bad breath, negatively impacting students' daily activities and health. However, many students, especially in low-income areas, lack adequate knowledge, hold negative attitudes toward oral care, and practice insufficient oral hygiene. This study aimed to assess the oral health knowledge, attitudes, practices, and related factors among high school students in Robe Town, Bale Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, in 2024. METHODS: From June 1 to July 30, 2024

Oral function status of older patients seeking dental implant treatment.

PURPOSE: In recent years, dental implant treatment has become an option for prosthetic treatment for missing teeth and is often performed in older patients. However, the complex oral functional decline in old age presents challenges in terms of frailty prevention, making oral function management after prosthetic treatment crucial. Nonetheless, the actual status of oral function in older patients seeking dental implant treatment remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to assess the oral function status of older patients seeking dental implant treatment. METHODS: Among patients receiving prost

Impact of public health and patient-centered prevention strategies on periodontitis and caries as causes of tooth loss in high-income countries.

In high-income countries, the oral health of the population is influenced by public health interventions, widespread use of oral care products, dental practice measures, and the cost of dental treatment. We compiled information on changes of the prevalence of proximal and upstream determinants of periodontitis, caries, and tooth loss over the last three decades to outline their potential effects on changes of oral health during this period. Information was retrieved from repeated cross-sectional studies and from published literature. While both the prevalence of edentulism and the number of mi

A national survey integrating clinical, laboratory, and WASH data to determine the typology of trachoma in Nauru.

BACKGROUND: The epidemiology of trachoma in several Pacific Islands differs from other endemic settings, in that there is a high prevalence of clinical signs of trachoma, particularly trachomatous inflammation-follicular (TF), but few cases of trichiasis and limited evidence of ocular chlamydial infection. This so-called "Pacific enigma" has led to uncertainty regarding the appropriate public health response. In 2019 alongside Nauru's national trachoma population survey, we performed bacteriological and serological assessments of children to better understand the typology of trachoma and to de
